I've mentioned this Shalem s1 interaction in other videos before. To be more precise, when Shalem is blocking fewer enemies than his block count while s1 is active, he will additionally attack unblocked enemies on tiles that blocked enemies are on, until the amount of targets equals his block count. Since it happens consistently you can do funny things like this with him.

Nice, i was wondering if you'd do any of these. Interesting Shalem fact there, i would've never guessed it works like that. So weird. But fortunate! Verdant being a mascot once again. What would we do without a mascot? Also, not having to swap your niche operators between maps 🤝 I thought about doing something fun about EX and S stages, but everything up to EX-8 is trivial, and 8 itself seems impossible on CM. 7-CM is only fun with even more restrictions, and i don't like those. S-1-A is unbeatable, without Arturia's module at least, 1-B is messy and not particularly fun, 2-A and B are really trivial, too. Will you give those a try as well, or is there no hope without medics?
I wasn't really planning to do the advanced stages but I saw a video of someone else's clear of this one and thought I could probably do it. A lot of these maps have multiple lanes far apart so the plain lack of bodies in general is worse than the lack of medics specifically. I also have no way whatsoever to deal with those 4 block enemies, so even though the S-3 maps have that funny Ifrit lane I can't really turn it into a Corroserum lane 😔 Lateranknights has so many strong units there's no way they can't do ex8 cm, high cost Fedex will hurt but you've still got stuff like Arturia and Mostima and an actual shifter to work with. Doing some testing with my own underdeveloped versions of these units you can open right side with Insider and Plume, then set up Fiametta s3 + Virtuosa s3 + Archetto s3 to blast about half of Kristen's phase 1 (you'll need to put down someone to bait attacks away from Virtuosa to get the full skill duration, Spuria should be good for that bc she's cheap but I used Ambriel on my end) and most of the center defenders, set down Mostima left to use her s3 on the first wave coming that way, and by then the bottom left orb has been turned so you can put down Enforcer on the button to stall the left and there's enough dp to put down Fedex on the right, meaning that side is solved forever and you can focus all your attention on the rest of the map. That should be a good starting point to figure out the rest from, you've got various operators with high hitcounts to deal with orbs and necrosis bypasses Kristen's damage reduction so there has to be a solution.
@@caliginousinsight Ah, yes, the plain old lack of bodies. I know how it feels. Is binding Gundam with Indigo and reducing its RES rapidly with someone else attacking still not enough to help Corroserum handle the task? While not sustainable in the long run, the strat of making the rest of the map go round and around by flipping switches all over the place might help. You know it all better, though. You're probably right, i shouldn't give up just yet. I thought H14-2 to be unbeatable too, until i changed my perspective, after all. I did try all that already, though, and iirc the farthest i reached was around 31/59, but not in that order specifically. My main problems are: 1) Mostima sending everyone flying around and them getting stuck in awkward places or bypassing roadblocks and murdering my operators 2) Crossroads dying before phase 2 begins 3) Enforcer getting overwhelmed, missing skill cycle and dying. I also have no contingency for phase 2 in place whatsoever yet. Arturia could deal with the cars, but she's also the only one who could transition Kristen into phase 2 reliably. Leaving even 1 orb in phase 1 decimates the party, and dealing with orbs in phase 2 is a pain, unless i somehow stall Kristen long enough to deal with the rest of the level, so i won't have to redeploy already beaten up Enforcer. But maybe i should just play with the order of things. I'll keep trying once my cold stops killing me, thank you for the motivation. 💪
@@selensewar looking at casterknights clears might give you ideas on how to position mostima. i tried some more things and you could also open with enforcer + arturia and then have dp for fedex when kristen appears, my lv60 one can't kill first phase there but your lv90 might. first you beat the cold then you beat the map💪
@@caliginousinsight this is actually a great idea, if i rush phase 1 then that solves most of my problems right away. Probably. Also deploying Enforcer everywhere counts as a ranged tile, so he refunds me 9 DP, which makes him virtually a 10 DP Plume. I'll also give casterknights a look indeed. 💪

I love the Defenders from this event because of how they’ll go from barely taking any damage to popping in a few seconds. Also, when you first mentioned the Shalem tech a few videos back, my only thought was “cool, but when is that relevant?” Well, here we are I guess. Once again, thanks for your hard work coming up with such a fun deployment, and for producing the video to share it with us.

it's so sad, shalem is my favourite character too. I should poke around one of the events with healing mechanics like wolumonde or ideal city sometime and see if I can't let him loose there

@@noriao102 he can't hit air, but the drones absorb some of the damage taken by enemies around it, and the spin tops have low def so they take a lot of damage from zuo le that then gets transferred to the drone
Thank you, Melanite! A very nice clear of a very annoying level. What do you thing a 6* arts defender needs to be viable?
Arts protector is already a really good subclass, the base traits of 3 block, defender bulk with guard atk, and arts damage on skill already mean you have to be actively trying to make a bad arts protector. In addition to those base traits arts protectors also 1) benefit from drawing ranged (arts) damage, either through their talents or to charge their defensive recovery skills, 2) have extended range and/or can hit multiple targets with at least one of their skills, 3) can hit air with one of their skills (except Dur-nar), and 4) tend to prioritise offense over survivability, and their more defensive skills will usually raise their hp or res rather than def. Combined you get a unit that needs a little more healing support than a standard defender, but makes up for it with strong and versatile offensive power. Since snakeknights has no healer it makes it hard to use Shalem well in this niche, but like, his s2 dps is roughly on par with Surtr s2, he's a really strong unit already and an extra tile would just be decadence. I think the problem with making a 6* arts protector and the reason we don't have one yet is that it's hard to combine these features into a unit that does something unique while staying in line with what the other arts protectors do, without just blowing every existing defender out of the water. Like, "a 6* defender that has high damage, draws aggro and converts damage taken to some other resource, can extend their range, and deals multitarget arts damage that also hits air" cannot possibly be unviable. In fact it's probably going to be the most cracked defender to date, because a lot of the current popular Really Good Defenders(TM) are good because they have Some of these traits. Blemishine's big damage skill has an arts damage component. Horn is good because of her long range splash damage and her s2 has an arts component. Penance has a reflect talent, taunt on her s3, and multitarget arts damage on her s2. Jessica can extend her range and hit air, and do a kind of taunting with her shield. All of these stupid good defenders don't even do everything a 6* arts protector can be reasonably expected to do! Just checking off the boxes of what makes a unit an arts protector will automatically result in anything between a Mlynar and a Wisadel unless they actively gimp the numbers, which would suck and be lame and they don't wanna do that, so instead we're just not getting a 6* arts protector until they figure out how to solve this

Loved this clear, big fan of watching Shalem set a lot of things on fire and also himself. The stage becomes a lot more annoying if you allow Theresa to actually use her mechanics lol so nobody who's trying to low-op it wants to interact with it. You can see how the cocoons work in H14-4 videos though, since the common strategy there is to move them around and box them in so she can't expand them in her phase 2 and you remove the time limit to beat her.
