I've heard rumblings that something like a North/South championship could be on the cards at some point. It is what the cadets and juniors do currently, I believe, so it's not so far fetched. Would be good to race at some of the tracks further North

@DownToRace let's see what the North has to offer, as I will be 100% invested in anything north. I can't justify driving down south unfortunately for the meets. Although, iam down at shennington for testing and racing on the Sunday for a bit of fun to close the year out with some club 100 experience. ✌️

I think you should recieve a 15 championship point penalty for poor fist bumping skills... I'm to remain unaffected.

I think it's important to acknowldge mistakes, especially if they were ones like when I hit Glen; it's racing not bumper cars afterall.

So, after a pretty reasonable hiatus, I signed up for the Experience championship and found it to be a great way to get back into racing and get used to the Club100 nuances and format. There are multiple categories within the Experience championship, so as a novice you will be able to decide which best suits your level of experience, or I'm sure the very help guys and girls in the office will be happy to help you if you gave them a call. Baring any changes to the format for next year, you get a practice/qualifying session followed by two 20 minute races. It works out to be a bit like a shortened SP60 event; it differs slightly however, in that your race 2 grid is based on your fastest lap time in race 1, not your finishing position. The length of the races also provides good opportunity to develop your racecraft. Sprint races, which are between 8 and 12 minutes, can be quite unforgiving if you're still honing your skill and getting used to how the Club100 karts handle. I found that doing the Experience championship helped be hit the ground running when I entered the SP60 and Sprints the following year. I had the benefit of being able to draw on 10ish years of previous karting experience (which hadn't completely been forgotten, thankfully), but even for those who may have only had limited previous experiences in karts, I would happily suggest the Experience championship as a place to get your feet wet in the Club100 series.

@@DownToRace thanks so much for the detailed response, I appreciate it. I think I’ll definitely sign up to the Experience championship next year then. But given this year’s championship was only 7 rounds (and presuming it’ll be the same next year), I’m considering signing up to Experience and then one other. I feel like seat time will be critical and the more time I can spend in the kart the better. Plus it’ll make the long trips worth it more!

@@hall717 Seat time certainly is important, for which reason, it is unfortunate that there aren't more rounds for the Experience championship. You could potentially look to enter rounds of the SP60 or Sprints in the months that do not have Experience rounds in them as a way to continue gaining seat time. If you happen to be close enough to a Daytona karting venue, you could also investigate their D-Max series as a way to keep gtetting behind the wheel. I haven't driven these myself, so I can't comment as to their similarity to Club100 karts, nor the running of their championships, but I know that some of the huys on the grid do this or something similar between meetings.

Thanks a lot, hopefully it's still useful even though it's a bit out of date by this point. If I had the means and time to store and prep my own kart, the GX UK series looks to be going well and I've enjoyed seeing the content that you and the others have been putting up. The club and national karting scene looks to be getting more and more expensive, to the point that all but only the most affluent families will be able to participate (and compete) which is a real shame. That's not to say that your classic 'Dad and Lad' set ups wouldn't be able to turn up and have some great weekends, but I think series like Club100, Tillotson and GX UK are well placed to offer something for those that don't want to turn up already knowing that they are at a disadvantage to those that have the means to procure 2 monster engines and a new chassis whenever they please.

@@clapymickeysmous I’d imagine it’s inflation, this video being a year old is now bound to be inaccurate, however the differences in price I would imagine are still reasonably similar. I’ll be purchasing a new helmet in the not too distant future, so perhaps an updated video is needed.

Possibly, I’ll need to do some research to find out how much has changed in the market first.

So, my original red, white and gold helmet was designed for me by my buddy and then my blue and pink helmet was designed by Hype Creative. This one was meant to be an evolution of my original helmet which is why there are similar design elements. The colours were ones that I requested were incorporated. For the painting of the helmet, I purchase the plain white version and provided this to the helmet painter who then works their magic. My blue and pink Bell RS7-K was painted by H2O Customs who I will be using again for a future update to my design. As I say in the video, it won’t help you drive faster, and can be expensive (you get what you pay for typically with helmet painting) but if you have the disposable income to cover it, it can certainly help you to feel more of an individual out on the track. Many helmet companies will also sell stock designs pre-painted on a line of their helmets. Whilst this won’t make your helmet one with a unique design, special to you, it will allow you to add a splash of colour to your equipment.

Thanks again! Apologies again for what may have seemed like running you wise in Heat 1. As I said in the video, the way you moved out of my peripheral vision was as though you were tucking in behind, something I maybe would have done if I were in your position having found out that being on the outside of that corner doesn’t end well from the SP60 race when I tried to hold it there with Tim. However, as you didn’t have that experience you weren’t to know; quite the wild ride you get from the grass there isn’t it 😅

With the benefit of being able to slow it down I think ‘opportunist’ is definitely the word. I don’t think I’d have done much different to Callan in all honesty as I don’t think you were enough alongside to be deserving of the room. I remember doing something similar to Kyle last year, luckily neither of us had to take to the grass, but it was for sure an optimistic move and in hindsight I was deservingly shown the door. It opens up the debate of conceding the position vs continuing on. Personally, I think giving the position back was the right thing to do, regardless of whether a penalty was coming (as that is for the action not the result).

@@DownToRace I think what makes it worse is that Callans maybe gone too quick on the way in, that would have meant him going wide or needing to slow mid way to the exit. I certainly expected him to slow more than he did and to see me as well. Leading a race but cocking a turn up with a class 1 driver behind you’ve got to assume you’re going to get sent, not looking alongside once you’ve gone wide is asking for trouble. Admittedly I’m not as alongside as I thought I was, due to Callans faster than expected entry speed. I could have won that race had I waited I think. Still, should I lift at this point? Or maintain others fear of my reputation that I’m sending it no matter what, without worry of losing points. I’ll keep my reputation 😂👍

Thanks Tom👍 it was a fun one despite most of the race being a lonely chase; it’s a bit of a different challenge compared with battling wheel to wheel.

It might be worth watching the Club100 space, the cadet and juniors have a northern and southern championship and this may be something that finds its way to some senior racing in the future.

Much appreciated! Having had time to reflect more, I think it’s a corner where even a little contact from behind can send the forward kart significantly beyond the line they are aiming for. It would be challenging when bumper to bumper in lap 1 to avoid this should the kart in front perhaps check their speed more than would be usual due to colder tyres or perhaps still getting used to the handling characteristics of the kart. It can also be difficult to rectify the situation once that initial small contact has been made. I didn’t show it as I was aware of the length of the video, but in the final there was an instance between Dan and I through the final corner where I inadvertently pushed him on slightly as it was the first or second time I had been on his bumper (instead of Adam) and I hadn’t quite got used to his speed through the corner. Luckily in that situation we had a small gap to the karts behind so I was able to lose very little time (and no positions) by letting off the throttle so that Dan could settle the kart, although he fairly issued me with the “calm down sunshine” hand 😅

As in my driving or the driving in general? There were certainly some close-quarter battles, but in general there was no real banditry from the field.
