Rebuilding a Citroen relay 244 gearbox to tackle noisy 4th and 5th gear
In todays episode I rebuild the gearbox on my 2002 Citroen relay gearbox because 4th and 5th gear did not like being selected. After inspecting the internals, it turned out to be much worse than I originally thought.

Replacing a worn wiper linkage on a Corsa D
Hello i have the exact same problem with my wipers. And i was wondering if you know how much it would cost to replace the linkage. I tried to open your link but it doesn’t show anything. Thanks for replying. It was a very good video.
@@natasa1904 www.ebay.co.uk/itm/166969846551?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=kbzI_gImRWa&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=OHhm8ZatTBC&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY I just found this.
Getting my car fixed at a Fast Lane Automotive and they "last second noticed" that they needed to replace a wheel bearing and charged me $700. I came here to see how hard it would be and I'm sad to admit that I grossly overpaid for a fairly simple job I could do myself...
@Fantasticleman unfortunately it's too often the case. Always pays to do a little research or even get a couple of quotes.
Hey, good video. I'm just wondering where you bought those weatherstrips, I can't find them anywhere online.
@craitex8171 I bought ghrm from another member of clubcalibra.net. for sourcing parts for these older cars it's your best option for unavailable parts.
That number 2 injector looks lovely :) Fair play for getting it out. What's the make and model of Diagnostic tester that you use. I have the same sort of van, Thanks.
Great helpful video. Did you have to adjust the hand brake?
As long as someone hasn't adjusted the handbrake poorly before, no you shouldn't need to adjust the hand brake. The cable adjustment is just there to take the slack out of the cable, not to make it work better otherwise it's no different to driving with the handbrake on.
Are you ok? it's been a while
@chris010281 yeah it's all good, just hot a few other projects on the go atm that need yo take priority over youtube.
How your gearbox going what you reckon would be wrong if it jumps out off third gear as your driving
@bowycolt2132 sounds like 3rd gear syncro might be an issue. Any problems putting it in 3rd?
No it goes in ok just jumps out 1and 3 were did you get your gear parts from thanks @WebstersWorkshop
@bowycolt2132 coastal motorhomes iirc they were fantastic, dropped them an email and told them what I needed and they came back with prices and part numbers.
Hey mate, awesome video by the way I can’t help but notice those awesome Rims you’ve got on your Calibra. Would you mind telling me what brand these are. I really want a set of 5 spoke 4 stud rims and these look appealing to me!
Milli miglia can't remember yhe exact model. Don't think they make them anymore because I bought these back in the 90s to go on my nova.
@@WebstersWorkshop ahh fair enough, I’ll have to keep searching I have a Calibra myself and I’m sick of the rims that are on it.
If you're on Facebook, search for a group called clubcalibra.net you might get some different rims on there
@@WebstersWorkshop thanks mate will do Again thanks for the video!
what’s the exact size of the e8?
What is the e8?
the socket you used you get the actual motor out? i swear you said e8 lol
Tbh it was that long ago, I really can't remember but if that's what I said, I just googled e8 sockets and they came up. It's like a female torx bit.
Hi. Did u push snap the wipers back on as I changed mine yesterday and did so and the brand new mechanism snapped. Cheers in advance for your reply
Push snap??? If your new linkage snapped then it sounds like an issue with the mechanism. I'd contact your supplier and see what they say.
The best spray can shaker on youtube, Thank You ; ) Simplistic Design.
Best idea for this that I've seen! Most contraptions I see on here are far too complicated.
My 2003 Relay gearbox has the similar issue. 4 out of 5 of those circlips have snapped, and the last one is very worn - It will snap soon if not replaced. I believe this is a design flaw, no idea why someone came up with such a poor design, simply awful!
Sound deadening will be a massive help when your in it and it’s raining! There’s a weigh bridge at Stannington!
Apparently there's a 1 just over at glaxo.
@WebstersWorkshop there's loads of weigh bridges at the scrap yards😂😂
Canny progress.
Cheers. Would be faster if the weather was better.
@@WebstersWorkshop eye it’s against us now.
How much does a job like this cost ?
I have no idea bud, this is my wife's car and I did it myself. This is not a garage, it's just my workshop where I work on my own vehicles. All I can say is a good welder isn't cheap but a cheap welder isn't good.
Dont be fooled guys - those two whacks getting the ball joint out were the last two!
Top tip Instead of clamping the flexy you can crack the bleed nipple or the pipe off then keep the brake pedal pushed down with a bar against the seat. You will get the first initial bit of fluid that comes out when you press the pedal but then it won't keep dripping. Ps callipers looking good 👍
Cheers, will give that a try for the next time.
Great video as always !
Thank you.
Come in
🤣🤣
Finish the nova
How's the welly?
@WebstersWorkshop closer to been finished than the nova. A couple more hours and there will be 6 months work left to do 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣
Interesting. Signed up 👍 Did you lock the fuel pump or any other pulleys ? And what mileage do you recommend changing timing belt ?
I didn't lock the pulleys, I was just really careful to keep the marks lined up when I refitted the new belt. I honestly have no idea how often they should be changed, the van is new to me so just changed it. At £150 for the whole kit it wasn't worth taking the risk.
Canny job. Did you not blank the EGR valve off?
No the van is being built for miles and comfort, not speed. Truts me it goes against everything I'm about but this 1s different so needs a different t approach.
Love calibra ❤
Thank you.
Good job 👍
Thank you.
Almost There 💪🏻
Then the real fun begins fitting out the back end. 😁😁
Nice progress 😎
I've already got the next 2 videos lined up. I'm way ahead of myself on this 1.
Pretty surprising that the ECU didn't set a P02AA code which is usually a tell tale sign of an injector on the way out. There's special slide hammer toolkits that screw on the injector fuel rail port if they're really stuck and you have to yank on them.
It was the injector leaking internally which was dropping fuel pressure out of range. That's why it was showing fuel rail pressure sensor (I really hope this is the case anyway!😬) the injectors were still operating fine electronically. I'm not too sure that slide hammer would of worked in this case, the high pressure feed comes in the side of the injector, not the top. Thanks for the advise though. 😀
@@WebstersWorkshopI believe those injector puller slide hammer kits are built specifically for side feed fuel ports. For straight pull you can get a crow foot with a slide hammer that can grab at the same place the retaining fork in the engine slots into.
Cheers will look for 1 next time I have a set to pull out. 👍🏻
Funnily enough, I’ve just bought a fourth motorcycle 😂. At least bikes don’t take up as much space. Good luck with the new project
Thank you. These projects fo take up a little space but I'm lucky enough to almost have enough space to house them all 🤣🤣
Fantastic piece of diagnostics. Was great to see the dicky injector leaking off into the test tube. Earned my sub! It’s great seeing channels of a similar size to my own but in a parallel niche making engaging content. Hopefully we’ll both smash 1000 subs soon 👍
Cheers for the shoutout although you didn't have to 😅 appreciate it though buddy 👍
No worries. I did it because you did a video on the show and I didn't 🤣🤣
@@WebstersWorkshop slacking 😂🤣 that's usually your department filming shows
Not filmed a single show this year.
Fingers crossed you got to the bottom of it.
Van looks great mate keep up the good work
How bored are you at work today? 🤣🤣
I was hoping for another ep3 but I will be interesting to watch your progress on the van/camper
Look forward to seeing this progress 😎
Great as always :)
Cheers.
Very smart 👍
Helpful video, gotta tackle my rear hub as its groaning a little when turning. Do you know the torque values for the hub? and any tips to know on these?
Can't remember what the torque setting were tbh. If you xan swing a spanner, you'll be fine with this. Was quite a straight forward job iirc.
Look canny
Turned out well for a £100 ebay powdercoating kit. 😁😁
Looks the Biz mate :)
Inlet next. 😁😁
Good video!
Thank you.
Workshop looks good, looking forward to the wide arch Nova making progress
Not as much as me 🤣🤣 just need to master this tig welding now and it's full steam ahead.
where can i get these seats?
I got these seats years ago from a friend for a different car, and I'm not even sure if they still make these. If you search "cobra clubman", you should find something very similar.
Canny mate 😊
Hi.Keep up with Calibra Jobs. I have w/brg to do soon this was great help.
Pleased it helped. If your rear axles never been out you will need to drop the whole lot down to get the bolt out next to the sill.
Thanks for the shout out for north east zafira owners club page
Not a problem.
My Biggest hate doing wheel bearings.
Thats the reason I've been putting this off for a couple of years now.
Looks good just idea if you don't like them strips been white thought about putting some some light tint spray or wrap on them to tie in with the black 🤔
I can get onboard with the white, it's the shape. I want them to curve a little.
Look forward to seeing you at vboa, I’ll be bringing the cav 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
Pleased you're out and about in that again. Can't quite fir vboa like especially if the weather's like this.
Could you maybe use some tinting film over the LEDs?
Get an mot on the car first then I can worry about it all at a later date.
