    Thanks for this video. My soleus in my right leg is extremely tight, or tightens up quickly, because my right ankle is very stiff after healing from a fracture dislocation. My dorsiflexion is still quite low (I average 4-6cm on a knee-to-wall), and so I struggle to bend into stretches like these - my ankle mobility stops me before I can feel a stretch in the muscle. Is there any way to adapt these exercises or relieve the tension in the soleus with my limited motion?

    It's called "Dead Bug" excercise. Great for lower back and abdominal core. "Jack Knives" are done in slanting seated posture with leg & abs crunched together. Activates lower abs & upper abs.

    If you don't have the flexibility to reach back and grab your foot like that you can use a dog leash. That's what I have had to do. Just wrap the hand loop around your foot and pull the leash up over your shoulder to extend your leg up and you can add more tension the more you pull.

      @@jacquiengirdimau5607 It really comes down to how do you feel when you're doing the exercises? You should feel the muscles working, but not an excessive amount of pain. Some discomfort is to be expected and should be "back to normal" after about 24 hours. Make sure you subscribe to our channel as we are constantly releasing new material!

    when i had really bad back pain i was forced to hunch my self, eventually i was tired of being a hunchback and bear the pain, it eventually stopped hurting.

    This is for strengthening the soleus muscle. Do you have a recommendation for how to release the soleus muscle tightness. Went biking over the weekend...an hour ride on each day. I guess I was rushing the season but my calf muscles are in pain. Had a calf cramp and if I stretch it the wrong way, it's got me. Ugh!! Calf area and thighs are tight!!!! 😢

      Thank you for the comment @earny12345. You are correct, I should have been lifting my entire body weight to get the most benefit from this exercise. Funny enough, after I watch some of the videos I make, I cringe from some of the mistakes that I discover watching me do the exercise. This is actually a great way of evaluating my weight training technique by filming myself and then critiquing it. If we make an updated video, I'll make sure to pass it your way!

    Very helpful video, thanks. One question: how long should I hold these stretches? In the video, they're not being held for very long. I wasn't sure if that was for instructional purposes or if that's the best way to do it. I have a lot of tightness in this area and it causes achilles issues and I think some knee instability as well. Thanks again!

      Hi Brandon, generally you should hold the stretch for about 30-60 sec. You should feel a deep stretch, but not pain. You’re correct that calf tightness can lead to knee problems. Best of luck on your health journey.

      It's difficult to provide general advice without first performing a thorough examination. That being said, for the general population, and for someone who is on their feet for a long period of time each day, it’s generally a good idea to work on your flexibility and mobility. These stretches will help with that. Additionally, a strengthening program would also be to consider for your overall health and wellness.
