Opto Phase by ChowDSP ∿
Opto Phase is an analog-modeled phaser effect, based on a custom-designed phaser circuit. The phaser circuit functions using a light-source (e.g. an LED) driven by a low-frequency oscillator (LFO), which is then coupled to a series of light-dependent resistors, which in turn control the cutoff frequencies for a set of allpass filters, thereby creating a modulating "phasing" effect.
In this effect, the dynamics of the opto-couplers are modeled using a physically-informed differential equation solver, while the rest of the circuit is modeled using Modified Nodal Analysis. The "Rate" knob controls the speed of the LFO driving the phaser effect.
The "Feedback" knob controls the amount of signal being fed-back from the output of the effect back into the phaser circuit.
The "Frequency" knob controls the "base" cutoff frequency for the allpass filters, and the "Range" knob controls how far the cutoff frequencies are allowed to be modulated.
The "Stages" knob controls how many allpass phasing stages are in the circuit. A 2-stage phaser corresponds to a "45 degree" phase shift, 4 stages corresponds to 90 degrees, and so on.

When putting internal effects together in a chain. Can you be auditioning them as you go, meaning say you want 4 effects in a chain, can you hear them together and be adjusting them as you add each one together from same screen? Meaning. Can you see all the effects you are trying to make a chain with on same screen? And once you make a chain and save it, can the effects in the chain be tweaked and re-saved. Also, are there amp, speaker, & mic IR’s in the pedal?
Hey! Yes, you can chain multiple effects together on the same screen (in any order you like) and tweak them all running simultaneously. Once you save a preset of an effects chain you like, you can load that preset, tweak the settings again, and then either save it as the same preset or as a new preset! Stratus now has 2 new amp + speaker simulation plugins trained using AI, and we're releasing even more soon. You really can make an entire rig with Stratus!
Nice video and a cool unit for sure! ❤
IM IN THE FUTURE!!! IM ORDERING IDC!!!!
The future is now!!! 😎 Please let me know if you have any questions about anything! Always happy to help! 😄
Looks like I will soon be retiring my J-Station from the effects chain. I've loved those tones, but I hated lugging around Twins. Now you've made them weightless...
@@robertsikkema8505 haha yes! I think you’ll be quite pleased with the sounds you can get out of both the Tweaker AND Twin 😄
Awesome!
Thank you! Cheers 😎
So do you have to buy every pedal seprat or does it automatically come with all of the pedals?
@@samlindsey6404 Stratus comes with 17 pedals out of the box that cover all the different categories (10 of which are normally paid plugins)! That way you already have plenty of pedals to build a full chain without buying anything else unless you wanna add more plugins to your Library. And all plugins can also be used on Mac and PC starting this Friday!
finally an ad that got my attention
Real
Is this a subscription type of app? Where you have to keep paying monthly? Or is it a one time purchase?
Everything is a one time purchase! We don’t offer a monthly subscription. 😃
better get zoom ms-50 or ms-70
This does significantly more than either of those!
Whoa this is a unique idea - had to look up the preset mode
this pedal is trash
I’m sorry you feel that way. Why do you think it’s trash? Have you used it before?
So when you wanna switch effects just step on your phone?
No you store the presets directly on the pedal and then you can select them with the switch, switch inside the knob, and turning the knob! You do not need to use your phone 😂
ua-cam.com/video/KA_MOBrCW6M/v-deo.htmlsi=nyHhjk1M5Z237iwt
How do you switch modes with the knob while playing? Does it have detects pr something to tell you for sure when you've moved to a different preset?
Yes! The knob is full-360° with detents/clicks and serves multiple functions, like scrolling to different presets using the 7 RGB LEDs on Stratus. The knob *also* has its own switch that you can tap with your foot! This will bank to the next preset pair in Preset Mode and the actual foot switch toggles between those 2 presets. It’s actually quite intuitive when you’re tapping away and looking at the LEDs. 😄

USB ports are not designed for any kind of physical abuse. One misstep can permanently mangle a jack. A device intended for road life must have its USB ports sufficiently protected from extraneous forces. This is done by a) recessing the port into the underside of the chasis so that the opening perpendicual to the bottom plate and b) forming a groove in the bottom plate to act as a strain relief and cable guide. You can see this idea implemented on several consumer products. The Durgod Taurus K320 keyboard, for example, could serve as inspiration. Check out its underside.
And if you are going to put the USB port in a dangerous spot, like flush to the back panel, then please make sure it's not on the main PCB but on a subassembly that can be easily replaced without soldering.
Hi, can we control the knobs by midi? Thanks
Hmmm I don’t see why this couldn’t be possible in a future software update! 👀
Why is this the first time I’m seeing or hearing this pedal??!!
@@3GunPhotog I don’t know!!! Maybe we need to put more videos out hehe. But thanks for watching and let me know if I can help you with anything at all! 😄 - Landon
Let’s go!!! 🔥
The most game-changing update yet when it comes to the use of Stratus in the middle of a set!
It would be interesting if I could control this pedal using MIDI CC - thereby automating effects activation / changes from my sequencer...
You can! Stratus supports MIDI commands via USB-C and you can toggle effects on/off with CC messages
are preamps different from amp pedals? like, is the Marshall bluesbreaker pedal a preamp?
I hope you make a version with stereo out.
Awesome

So hype for this effect! Definitely going to be my go to modulation
You did a killer job on the demo too, thanks again!
Where does one get Morningstar?
The controller that Jacob used in this video is the Morningstar MC6! ( www.morningstar.io/mc6-mkii ) This one does require a USB host adapter, and we just opened preorders for our own: chaosaudio.com/products/knot-midi-usb-host With that said, you can use pretty much any MIDI controller you like! There is a smaller Morningstar option (the MC3), but other companies like Pirate MIDI, Disaster Area Designs, and Tech 21 also offer great MIDI options. What are your goals when it comes to MIDI control? Happy to help you figure out the best setup. 🙂
Great video, thank you!
@@MuckingAboutWiththanks for checking it out! 🙌
Hooray! Congrats!
Thanks Robert!! 🤩🥳
Looks awesome. Would love to see a thin “bar-like” wireless foot controller to use in stomp box mode. Maybe even something akin to a laser keyboard.
Thanks for checking out Stratus! We're always working on improvements and new products, so you may see something like this very soon 😉🙂 really appreciate it, and let us know if you have any other suggestions!
Is there djenty pedal coming soon? Meshuggah, periphery kinda vibe
I would say the closest option right now is Asteroid! But we’ll get to work on some other djenty algorithms 😉 Check out Asteroid - Heavy Metal Distortion: ua-cam.com/video/F00dtO8N7fo/v-deo.html

Oh wow ... that's nice.
Thanks for checking out the demo 😎 we've been itching to get Constellation released!
Sounds killer gonna have to try this one out!
Super excited to hear what you think! Dope video you made on Stratus btw, anyone who sees this should definitely give it a watch 🔥
Let’s gooo!!
I'm not sure if this is by design or a bug, but the mix knob only turns the reverb level up and down. Meanwhile, the dry signal remains unaffected no matter what you set the mix knob to. This seems strange to me. I Can still get full wet if I hit listen to the delta in Reaper, but I don't think that is optimal. And this is on a mono file that I was testing it on since I understand it doesn't do stereo yet.
I have the same issue. But I am also a reaper user. So maybe it's a problem with reaper or it is a design flaw. Maybe @landonimo can comment in this.
Hey guys, apologies for the delay! We’ve actually updated the mix knob and fixed some other small bugs fairly recently. The latest version may fix the issues you guys are facing! If you send your emails to “support@chaosaudio.com” (not here obv 😂) I can get an email sent with those new download links 😁
For the first time im First!
"He was number one!" - Mr. Krabs
Great concept. How many effects can you run at once? Also, is there any MIDI integration?
Thanks! You can usually run about 5 effects at once on Stratus, but this is dynamic as each effect instance uses a different amount of CPU. This is listed in the description for each effect. And yes, we actually just added MIDI preset-switching support via USB! Now you can store all of your presets directly onto Stratus and call them up using PC # messages. 🙂
When I close the plugin, everything I've set is there, but when I reopen it, it goes back to the default setting. I cannot save anything as a preset.
Hey there! Have you downloaded Starlight recently? You may not be on the latest version
@@landonimo Hi, yes I was sent a link sometime back and downloaded the update. I also recently went to chaos audio and downloaded it there as well.
