we used to live here was kinda disappointing for me tbh. i read a lot of horror/thriller/etc kind of books and we used to live here came off as purposefully confusing. i generally understood it by the end, but during the book it was really just,,, annoying. its fine to leave certain stuff to be revealed or figured out by the reader but making the book read like an acid trip comes off as unskilled and unimaginative

I also discovered Sally Hepworth this year. I loved Darling Girls but unfortunately I didn’t care for The Soulmate. However I do want to try her other books.

I think a clockwork reader is inspired with the infernal devices books since it's her favorite series. But being inspired by clockwork orange is more of an interesting fact lol

You should add the following banned books on your list as well: 1984 by George Orwell, Animal Farm by George Orwell, Things They Carry by Tim OBrian and Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi

That’s a great list of books to read. It’s shockingly ignorant on the part of those wanting to ban CS Lewis. He was a devout Christian and his themes are often reflective of this.

One book banning story that I always think is unique is that the Lorax was banned in an area of northern California I think in the 80s because they thought that it would hurt the logging industry. They wanted to make sure that kids in the area would grow up and take jobs in the local logging businesses and thought reading the lorax would turn them anti-logging lol. Just one of many bizarre book bans!

I don’t understand why they’re banning books now. I don’t think it’s right. Books are meant to be enjoyed no matter what. Harry Potter being banned makes no sense whatsoever.

I found Scythe at my local Books a Million for $4. I've never read Neal Shusterman, but the Arc of Scythe series was on my want list.

There are some profound thoughts in literary fiction books. Sometimes, they can be quirky. I recommend mostly Paulo Coelho's books and The Vegetarian by Han Kang. Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini is tagged as literary fiction in Goodreads and Kite Runner is a good one. Even if some literary fiction books are thinner compared to some books, they tend to be read at a longer time because the way they are written takes some time to immerse yourself in the narrative. Cute cat! 😸

The Help is excellent, read it. Also a book very different from what you and Amanda read is: Winter Solstice by Rosamunde Pilcher. She is an older author, now dead. Her books are still widely read and a beloved author. Do NOT let the size of the book scare you. A wonderful love story of 2 older adults and many wonderful things, people getting together as a result. I adore this book and it's a definite re-read for me! The person who introduced me to Rosamunde Pilcher books is the book tuber Gina Stanyer. I enjoy her channel very much. Another book tuber who has what your looking for is Jen's Reading Life. Both these women are very different than what you are used to; but if you want to branch out, I highly recommend them. Glad you ARE branching out! There are soooo many enjoyable, fantastic bks. and types of literature out there.🤗. A favorite historical fiction author of mine is Hazel Gaynor. FABULOUS!

The Secret Life of Bees is so good! I loved it when I read it. Never seen the movie so can’t compare. Also if you haven’t read The Help yet that’s also really good. So is the movie.

You should try The Lost Daughter by Elena Ferrante. It’s short and has mystery-like elements. It was also turned into a movie! Also, Big Swiss by Jen Beagin. Get the audiobook!!
