i don't know if you're american or english. if you come from the UK, you know the "wild hunt", the army of the dead that moves through the air, especially between vhristmas and january 6th. here we celebrate the "holy three kings" on that day. It's like halloween, only much more intense! we call the time / "rauhnächte" / "rough nights", but that can't really be translated... 🖖🖖🎃🎃
I've heard my accent is a bit hard to place, but I am Canadian, though I spent years in the UK which likely influenced my accent. Despite not being British, I've heard of the "wild hunt". I always assumed this was due to Celtic influence, as, I remember reading of the Welsh branch of Celtic belief and their story of Arawn, king of the underworld, leading his hunts across the sky at certain significant times of year. Although there are similar stories related to Odin, I believe, too, so it could come from either. Maybe Christmas is more likely Odin, as Arawn's hunt is associated with the old Samhain (Halloween). As for 3 Kings Day, there are all kinds of interesting holidays I encountered for the first time, here in Poland, and that is one of them. They celebrate it here, too. I want to look more deeply into this holiday, some time, as it seems pretty complex & intensive!
@@LoreHoundChannel in our myths, the “wild hunt” kidnaps people or causes carcasses to fall to the ground, which one should not touch. they also hunt other mythical figures such as the "moss woman" - "moosweiblein". to protect yourself you have to make three crosses in wood or a tree and lie down on the ground. if you get cheeky and talk to the wild hunters, they'll give you a hump and then take you back a year later... 🖖🖖🎃🎃
here in germany we associate wolves with werewolves, but not with vampires, they play in a different league! 🤘🎃🤘
@@ufoscriptorium even when writing that, I hesitated to a bit, as I wasn't 100% sure this would stand true specifically for Germany, as the source text doesn't specify exact countries in Europe, where these associations exist prominently. Should have gone with my gut & left Germany out of it. I made a bit of a presumption there, granted.
@@LoreHoundChannel vampires and werewolves only play a minor role for us. but we have beings - in german "riese von arget" / "giant of arget" - which we know today as "slender man". many reports about dwarves, only a few giants, no fairies and very many reports about white female figures who look like ghosts or apparitions of the virgin mary. and reports of balls of light flying through the air. In german myths there is often talk of "dragons", but they look like these balls of light / orbs. 🖖👽
@@ufoscriptorium I've considered making a video on German folklore, as many, including myself, often confuse it with the beliefs of Norway/Sweden/Denmark. Most of my knowledge of the latter comes from the classic text "Teutonic Mythology", which tends to mention German variations, in passing, and so tending to confuse them. A well-researched video clarifying specific German folklore would be an educational and interesting endeavor, I think. Especially, as I've heard German states are quite distinct, culturally, and so it would entail differentiating the local folklore, as well. My knowledge, as you can tell, on that, is quite small right now, though. Any suggestions on source texts, on that topic, would be appreciated.
