Turning the 1973 SWINGER into a RACE CAR!
Переглядів 991Рік тому
Time to get serious for #nonamenationals. So it’s time to turn the 1973 dodge dart swinger into a race car. With so many parts on their way we got done what we could with what has arrived! This a body mopar is going to scream!
The 73 swinger is FINALLY road ready! Now let’s turn it into a RACE CAR!!!
Переглядів 1,2 тис.Рік тому
We finally got the 73 down the road. It’s not 100% finished, but it’s finished enough to drive. So I did the logical thing and bought a bunch of stuff to turn it into a drag car. #nonamenationals should be a blast!!
Fuel problems no more! Headed out of state, see ya soon!
Переглядів 269Рік тому
Just wanted to give a quick update on the 73 dodge dart swinger. The fuel issue has been resolved! Going into gear nicely and the engine is sounding great. I’m off on vacation so I’ll be back for a test drive very soon!
Exhaust leak fixed with Remflex gaskets! Continued push to get the 73 roadworthy!!
Переглядів 401Рік тому
Remflex exhaust gaskets are absolutely amazing. That’s my final conclusion. With them I got the exhaust leak fixed, even after struggling with a broken off bolt and a slew of other challenges. Exhaust is done. So much is done. We’re almost to the finish line.
The Hughes Engines ROLLER cam is in! Buttoning up the 73 dodge dart for its first full test drive!!
Переглядів 2 тис.Рік тому
The Hughes roller cam is in. The back glass is in. Lights are working. Things are going our way on this 1973 dodge dart swinger. Few things left to knock out, then it’s time to drive!
We FINALLY have lights, amazing interior refresh on the 73 dodge dart swinger
Переглядів 556Рік тому
As we wait on parts it’s time to start knocking out all the little things. New carpet, new lights, new wiring. Just trying to tidy up all the stuff I can while we wait on the Hughes engines cam to come in!
A Body Mopar EASY windshield install. One step closer to finishing this build.

Windshield replacement on the 1973 dodge dart swinger. Very easy process if you just take your time. The tinted glass from AMD really sets this thing off!
Hand lapped valve job and a BUDGET floor pan from a donor hood for the 73 swinger!
Переглядів 318Рік тому
The 1973 dodge dart swinger got the valves lapped, heads ported, transmission fixed AND a homemade budget floor pan made from a cheap pickup hood. This budget build mopar is getting closer to being done!
Time for a HUGE engine upgrade, the 73 swinger build suffers a setback.
Переглядів 444Рік тому
Well a hurt engine is never any fun, but now there’s the opportunity to switch over to a roller cam! The 73 swinger gets a new package tray, and the engine is torn down ready for its new stick!
$400 eBay paint job on the 1973 Dodge Dart Swinger

Kept it low dollar and used budget friendly eBay paint. But hey finally got some color on the car! For no more than I paid for everything it came out pretty dang nice.

Glazing sanding and priming the 73 dart swinger. Power steering pump just won’t give in.
Переглядів 4252 роки тому
Like usual bad luck Brian won’t give in. The power steering pump needs a new pulley. But the bodywork is just about done. Upol glazed the car, wet sanded it, and sprayed some more 2k urethane primer on the 1973 Dodge Dart swinger.
Bad voltage regulator causing BIG problems. Don’t burn your mopar down.

A faulty voltage regulator can cause some very bad issues. One being the fact that it can burn your car down. On this episode we discuss what went wrong, and how we fixed it.

This is exactly what was happening to my car. This video helps so much my car is running fine now with the recommendations from Randy. Thank you thank you thank you
lovely blue car. my dad drove a 73 maroon dodge dart sedan. i'd love to buy an old beater just to have the experience of driving one of those old darts. nice that you can take care of your own cars. great hobby.
Yes and if you have to rebuild or refresh front and rear suspension there is a pile of money waiting there.
A decent 2 door ( basically anything) is going for 20- 25k nowadays
What size small block Mopar and cam do you have? It sounds good. By the way, sadly I’ve been down the cheap voltage regulator path my self and caught it just in time as well, but the cheap chinese one that I used was of the “adjustable variety “. Once I saw my voltage spiking upwards of 19 volts after like six months of installing it and my headlights looking much brighter than usual, I got rid of it and put a n.o.s. regulator on my 1970 Newport and all good since.
@@MarcS-mp1je just a 318 bored 20 over. I’ve since put in a Hughes roller cam and morrel roller lifters.
Are you going to add a "shunt wire" from the alternator straight over to the battery positive? Dead Dodge Garage does a good video on the reason why all of us Dodge owners should do so. Right now, even with the shunt wire, the alternator is still putting out too much......15.5 - 16 volts at idle. I guess I should order the quality Mopar Volt Regulator as you did. How high was your volt reading when things went into "meltdown"?
I have a estimate of what I have into my 70 swinger drag car Probably $30500 -$40500 & have another 5 k to go The car doesn't drive on its own yet. It has nice parts, nothing stock anymore except the front suspension which will soon be changed. I've been buying parts for the build since 2018, the car was $400 then. Thankfully I've taught myself everything I need to know in the last few years to build an entire car myself. The car should run 9.50s (1/4) in good air
Great video. It helped me a lot. Did you ever make a video for the back glass? I couldn't find it.
Just used a string to get the back glass in. Super simple.
A parte mais importante do detalhe a câmera ficou longe
Grounds are good. Battery to block, battery to chassis, block to chassis. And ground to electric components, VR and ICM. If you are concerned about corrosion, put some dielectric grease on it. If you are concerned about full voltage feed, keep it under the hood with direct feed relays, The firewall plug is 50 years resistive connections.
Had lots of problems w cheap China voltage regs.i have to go to dodge dealer for performance parts.thanks.
My experience is that over just the last few years, the salvage yard supply of 440's, and 383's has greatly diminished. Those are often preferred engines for B and E bodies, plus the old bodies themselves are harder to find. That means some have been opting for more available A- bodies as an alternative, and usually prefer 340, 360, maybe 318. That switchover is making supply of A bodies and used parts more expensive.
You did it for you not anyone else. You are the only one that has to like it. Not all things have to be perfect sometimes good enough IS good enough.
Thanks for sharing. 👍
Good video I liked and subscribed😊
You forgot tire pressure you can get close to center cap but from the floor. If you got a low tire and ain't coming out true, make sure she's true
Nice video
I've never seen anyone do something like this I prefer the the string method.
The string method is how I got the back in.
Fast forward to 9.40 to see some spraying
How do i install a Boost controller on that turbo?? I don't SEE the outlet??
Cam specs?

Glad to see you at it again! " get er done" bring her to the 2024 N.N.N.
The car is fully drivable, just trying to pretty it up a little bit is all lol
Welcome back it’s been awhile
Yeah between changing jobs and saving for Christmas I didn’t spend any money on myself until after the holidays
Nice job, and nice video! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks man!
Are you going to spray primer on it just to wet sand it down to a smooth surface that's on the only reason I can see spraying primer
Yeah just to block it down and have a reset color. Going to be hard to get full coverage on this blue unless I go back blue.
Paint it flat destroyer, gray
You’re on the right track for some parts of the car 🤫
:
The original bolts that hold the voltage regulator and the ECM are special 1/4" x 20 bolts with a captured spin washer the has raised edges that cut into the paint and provide a good ground those bolts have a anchor symbol on them.
You’re not wrong, but there’s nothing wrong with going above and beyond to ensure you have a great ground.
Curious what flat tappet cam brand us the one thst failed? Were you using high zinc oil in motor?
Sure was. Not sure of the cam specs on the old cam it was in the half assembled engine when I got the car.
I Love it!!! Can you please tell me exactly where on eBay you found this? Thank you
I looked for you and the closest one to mine is found on eBay under “Hemi Fiberglass Hood Scoop Dart LO23 Cuda BO29 Bolt-on” I’m not sure if it’s the same seller or not my purchase is no longer showing on my purchase history.
@@BlownBudgetGarage I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my question.
@@8092DJ of course! I try to respond to everyone but sometimes I miss a comment here or there.
It’s $189.00 now and $39.00 shipping.
@@8092DJ that’s so ridiculous prices have gotten out of control
Probably would have sold better left in primer. I'm all about encouragement, but maybe you should 'watch' a few more videos before you 'make' any more videos. I hope you'll take that constructively.
Maybe you should post content before running your mouth about content 🫡
I think a color change is in order...my opinion... I like your white idea but with maybe some black "factory" style stripes to break it up a bit.. keep on the airfile...it will keep all your body panels honest...have a quick look on youtube re taping and sanding up to bodylines so you dont lose them in the bondo etc... you got this dude
Thanks man! Luckily there’s only like 4 spots I had to put a little filler in. I should be able to knock the body prep out pretty quick with the board.
Good to see you back. I like your progress in the shop! Those cars look best Hemi orange with the black stripes. Keep up the good work!
I’m a huge fan of orange but I’ve got an idea in my head. I’ll go over it in the next video.
Good job on the shop. Like the new heater !! You've gotten lots of work done. Air files are great. Here in CO, we have about 6" of snow and it's -10, so my projects are on hold, since my car is outside. 👍
Here in southern Tennessee is currently 10° and we have 5” of snow lol I’m over it
Definitely remove the marker lights. I welded in filler panels and it cleaned up the side profile. Happy to see you are back to making videos.
Yes sir between changing jobs and Christmas I was either too busy or saving up to be Santa
Would raising it stiffen it
Absolutely can, just remember that with any height change you make you will have to adjust any camber changes that will occur.
😎👍
I got to admit. I like blue but never found blue to be gorgeous on these cars. So need to rewatch your video about the wing cause im interested if i can get the double hood scoops from the dusters and demon. But anyways back to the color. I think it would look gorgeous as a greyish metallic color with the black wing and scoops. Flat black would look extrememly wicked as well tho. Not sure if your looking for a shiny color or not tho.
I’m on the fence. I’m flirting with a combo of a metallic stainless for the bumpers and a white for the body.
@@BlownBudgetGarage I hear you on the bumpers but white just gets too dirty and stains too easy. Lol don't get me wrong a white and black combo is still gorgeous. Lol
Good to see your doin good, keep the blue, I wouldn't tell anyone if you used ford tractor blue enamel, but its cheap and sands easily for easy repairs. (my truck is international red)
I’m not too good for some tractor paint lol
Aren’t the side markers used to show your left and right signal when viewed from the side? For example, if you were at an intersection, cross traffic can see if you’re going to turn.
Yeah but cool > practicality
Hahaha! Right on! Thanks for the great content!
Keep it blue and a lil flake ...cant wait to see the next video...
Not a bad idea!
What size rims and tires?
Which ones? The rally wheels or the bigs and skinnies?
:
Hey where did you go ?? It's been 6 month's, we miss you, what's going on the car?
I’ll be filming this weekend. I switched jobs and between that and saving up for Christmas I haven’t had the cash to put into the car.
Awesome, can't wait to see a new video. I totally understand that, thank you for the reply.@@BlownBudgetGarage
