Magpie Mine & Monsal Head - Peak District, England - A Solo Hiking Vlog
Magpie Mine & Monsal Head - Peak District, England - A Solo Hiking Vlog
The atmospheric remains of Magpie Mine are one of the best places to visit in the Peak District and one of the top industrial heritage sites in Derbyshire. It was the last working lead mine in the Derbyshire orefield and is one of the best surviving examples in the UK of a 19th century lead mine. The mine has a fascinating history spanning more than 200 years of bonanzas and failures, of bitter disputes and fights resulting in the “murder” of three miners, and a Widows’ Curse that is said to remain to this day.
pdmhs.co.uk/magpie-mine-peak-district/
One of the most popular beauty spots in the Peak District, with absolutely fabulous dales scenery.
Strictly speaking not a village, Monsal Head and the beauties of the Dale and its' surroundings have been popular with generations of visitors. The combination of the winding river Wye in the steep sided dale, with the wooded slopes of Fin Cop and rocky outcrops of Hobbs House, together with the railway viaduct, make it one of the most photographed locations in England. There are visitor facilities at Monsal Head, with car parks, toilets, guest houses, hotel, pub, cafes and gift shop, it can be a busy place in the height of summer. The dale itself is for exploring on foot, with the Monsal Trail crossing the old railway viaduct providing a fantastic viewpoint above the riverside meadows.

Beautiful chill 😊 sub
Impressive spot ❤ have a nice day
thanks :) you too
Beautiful video!
@@DaveDoesHiking thanks 😊
Cracking mate
Thank you 😊
looks just beautiful!🥰
Beautiful place, very popular area it would seem though
Top job!
Thanks ☺️
It's awesome to see that mine from above like that! Did you notice the van driver thumbs up to you? 😂
I didn't while I was recording or editing but did when I watched the full video back 😅
😂 What is it with you and cows/bulls
My nemesis 😅
Been waiting for a new vid Nick, good to see you back out there! Weathers been shitty hasn't it
Thanks, yeah, pretty bad, it's so unpredictable, waiting for a break in the weather to get back out there!
Really clear footage and views can see for miles. Brave walking through the vow field.
I'm not sure braves a word I'd use, you should have seen how wide of a birth I gave them 🤣
Oh yay, you're out and about again 😊 Love these vlogs
Well, I was, this was recorded a few weeks ago, weather's been terrible since, hopefully back again out soon though 😊
Hey Nick you went hiking again ;) Jokes aside fantastic stuff mate. I'm in love with PD! Keep it up
😅 Peak District is a great location, my second favourite in England after the Lake District, planning a trip back there as soon as the weather perks up a bit
Lovely solo hike man, are looks just beautiful!
It really is! I'm planning a trip back there as soon as the weather perks up, still have another half dozen hikes mapped out
Cracking video mate, well done. Just subscribed from a fellow UA-camr 😉👍
Awesome, thank you 😊
As always, your drone footage had me holding my breath. At 8:25 just before you’re shown sitting down you can hear a cuckoo.
Oh nice! There are something like 200 species of birds in that area! The DJI mic2 sure picks up some detail! Much better than the old Sony one I had
Such a beautiful and soothing feeling! Great work man, you did great job here!
Thanks a lot!
You are on a roll Nick. Another fantastic adventure of yours. Perfect shots man
Appreciate your words ☺️

Lovely vid as always!
Thank you as always 😊
Great views. Love the sounds of the river flowing.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it 😁
Another wonderful adventure Nick! Great video
Thanks, as you can see we weren't quite so fortunate with our summer here 😆
These shots are amazing my friend! Absolutely amazing!
Thanks you 😀
Even the rain can’t quite spoil a walk there. I can’t be certain after so many years but I’m fairly certain that I spent the night in that cave to shelter from the rain. Back in the 1970s equipment, especially tents, wasn’t quite as lightweight as now so it was a toss up between a night in there or dealing with a wet tent (waterproofed cotton) in the morning.
Amazing! I considered that myself at one point, I think it would have been a great experience but a little cold as I didn't have my sleeping bag or roll mat with me, I have a small mat I use to sit on and my down jacket just in case but I honestly think I would have been ok
@@NickGoesHiking from what I could see the stone looks worn smooth with countless feet over the years. The tent we and my mate were carrying was a Good Companion Standard made by Blacks.
@markshrimpton3138 That's right yeah, it's worn smooth, I used to take all my kit with me when hiking so normally would have had my roll mat, sleeping bag and a 1 man lanshan, but I recently switched to a day pack on these 1 day hikes so have none of that I'd love to spend a night I there, would be a priceless memory that
Beautiful location that one, even in the rain it looked gorgeous
Yeah, I still had a great day out, just sitting in the cave watching the rain and admiring the view was a perfect moment
Gorgeous place, shame about the rain bit I quite enjoy walks in the rain to be fair
It wasn't too bad to be fair, I was a bit annoyed at first but I got over it
🐄 🐮
😅 I keep my eye on them buggers
Newhaven is an awful dump full of the worst dole scrounging inbred junkies alive.
This trail looks so much fun! Great video!
Thank you, yeah, it's a great trail, highly recommend it
Such a beautiful work my friend! Shots are amazing!
Thanks, I try 😊
I don't know. The video title kinda threw me off. Was expecting something different. Maybe yall pronounce Tittes differently in the UK.
😅
Well the immature side of me saw the word Titts in the title. Thanks Nick. Awesome view though. Gittity.
😅 That's how I was pronouncing it until one of the locals corrected me "it's tit ez worth, not tits or titties" 🤣
So relaxing listening to all the sounds of nature water and birds. Looks a lovely place yo visit.
It's beautiful and so peaceful once you get past the busy area
Wow didn't realise the reservoir was that big. Nice to see drone shots too. Great vlog
Thank you 😊
Nice
Thanks 😊

Beautiful relaxing and exciting at the same time. Great shots Nick
Thanks 😊
Beautiful 💕
Thank you :)

@@slowshots007 Thanks 😊 It's an amazing castle and location
@@NickGoesHiking yeh I know just visited and its amazing place 🤗
@slowshots007 nice! I just checked out the drone footage you took too, lovely!
Lovely! Just what i needed on a cool summers afternoon, appreciate your efforts Nick
Appreciate you watching :)
Another brilliant video and hike, I think I prefer this new direction you're going in with just the ambience, I do miss the little talking moments though, maybe you could do two edits? That's if it's not too much trouble? I for one would watch them both
I second this
Awesome, Yeah, to be honest I kinda always wanted to do them this way but wasn't very good at editing and adding the audio to the drone parts so they were just silent and it felt awkward, now I know how to do that and I saw that one of my silent vids is now my most watched I thought I would try this way, hopefully it works out, thanks for watching :)
Lovely, but wrong music, pan pipes?
Thanks, appreciate the feedback, I thought I would try something different, I'm going with just ambient sounds from here out
Very chilled 🤙🏼
@@Summit_Seekers00 glad you liked it 😊
So peaceful love the sound of water and the birds. Love nature
me too :)
This is cool especially loud on tv
Thanks :)

@@BrianWheatleyOfficial. thanks 😊
Oh, I like the different styles, I have to admit I prefer the asmr version though 👌🏻
Thanks, asmr seems to be very popular so I'll likely continue to make asmr edits without the talking and music ☺️
Don't you just love the sounds of nature!?
Absolutely
