    I question whether launch control is a good thing at a street corner, making a left. Maybe I’m just old.

    Nice video! I am seriously considering getting a pre owned 981 Cayman S. I appreciate the real life point of view.

    I would have liked to see trunk space and cost to own/insure as part of the "ease to live with". If its a daily driver, will my groceries fit in someplace?

    Launch control at a left turn stop light is like going to the grocery store with a shotgun...... idiotic 😂

    Cars with higher drag coefficient can be quieter than those with lower. Dual paned glass and tar mats under the carpet and felt lined fender liners with quiet tires keep cars quiet. Launch control into a turn with no stability control on is darwinism at its best

    Please don't talk about "aerodynamic efficiency". It is very obvious you are not well versed. Also, comparing the Cayman to a 911 is like comparing an apple to an orange. The cayman does not "far surpass" the 911, nor does it surpass at all.

    • @ogaudibmw656
      @ogaudibmw656 7 років тому

      Well then, why don't you enlighten us on what you claim to know about aerodynamic efficiency? Or, are you more likely (as I suspect) the classic internet troll that just barks??? And for your information, Porsche themselves (in secret pages) have admitted that if they really developed the Cayman to its full potential it would indeed be a much higher performance car as compared to the 911. But, purely for marketing reasons they won't allow that to happen as the 911 is and remains their company "hallow" car........ Your welcome!!

    • @blasphemicwhale
      @blasphemicwhale 7 років тому

      I would love to see proof of that claim, Porsche would never put down their flagship (more expensive) car to promote a cheaper one that makes them less money. That's a useless argument considering your proof is in "secret pages". Aerodynamics has essentially three parts. I'll save you from any of the mathematics: 1. Drag coefficient - how smoothly air will "glide" around the surface of the car. This has to do with the design of the curve and edges, etc. 2. Frontal area - if you looked dead on parallel to the direction of travel, this is the cross sectional size of the vehicle. You want to minimize this. More aerodynamic cars have smaller frontal areas 3. Lift - essential how "angled" certain parts are can cause aerodynamic lift, where an area of high pressure (more air) is directed under than over the car or wing, and a force is created pushing a car up. Similarily, if an area is low pressure is created under the car, or under a wing, canards, splitter, etc, it is called aerodynamic downforce. Downforce and lift are the same thing but antiparallel. However, increasing downforce by use of a wing and such increases drag. Now if you're talking about "aerodynamic efficiency" you want to minimize frontal area, drag coefficient while maintaining an amount of downforce required to keep your tires on the road. There is no such thing aerodynamic inefdiciency, the point is redundant. I'm not saying I don't like the cayman, in fact, I think it is a fantastic car and I'm looking to buy one of my own in the upcoming years.

    • @blasphemicwhale
      @blasphemicwhale 7 років тому

      A simple Google search will yield you better, more detailed explanations on aerodynamics than me, a simple physicist, can tell you. A good place to start would be be Bernoulli's principle.

    • @ogaudibmw656
      @ogaudibmw656 7 років тому

      Thanks for the quick response, I can appreciate that kind of passion! ... And I appreciate the simple definition of "aerodynamics". What I am referring to as "aerodynamic inefficiency" in the video is simply a car that needs to have certain amounts of down-force purely for performance reasons. So, perhaps on this particular point we are saying the same thing just in slightly different tongues..... And I never said that Porsche "put down" the 911 in any way what so ever. Quite the contrary, I clearly said that because the 911 is their hallow car they would never openly admit to the Cayman having the "potential" of being more capable...... an online search of "Porsche 911GT3 vs Cayman GT4" , will yeald you plenty of reading and clearly indicate that the 911 isn't the performance king between the two. Some articles will swing one way, while others will swing the other way. What you will end up understanding (through these online articles) is that in most cases the Cayman offers the driver a sharper, more focused, and in race track situations, a more predictable at the limits type of experience. And then there is all the real world feedback I have by drivers on the track that say that the Cayman just feels more "racey" and "tactile" compared to a 911.

    • @blasphemicwhale
      @blasphemicwhale 7 років тому

      I realize autocorrect from my cellphone did horrors to my spelling in my last post... I'm not even sure what happened with "inefdiciency". It definitely does have the potential to be better than the 911. Mid engine always will be more balanced than rear engine. However, the Cayman has a long way to go to beat the 540hp and sub 3 second 0-60 times offered by the Turbo S.

    Come on man, why did you launch control at a turn you should've done in a straight line

    • @ogaudibmw656
      @ogaudibmw656 7 років тому

      Its so unfortunate that "most" people don't truly understand the concept of launch control. Launching in a straight line is easy and can be accomplished by anyone and most any car that has the feature. But what I've demonstrated in this video by launching into a tight left hand turn is just how incredible the Cayman's capabilities are in terms of traction, balance, steering accuracy, and overall complexity of its launch control system. Believe me, I've driven many cars that also have launch control and they don't work nearly as well as the Porsche system.

    • @xmodMAN76

      RacerPlayer yeah, if traction control wasn't on you'd have been in a pile of shit, I'll tell you that much.

    Great informative video! Thinking of getting the 2016 base model. Do you think that model is under powered? ?

    • @ogaudibmw656
      @ogaudibmw656 8 років тому

      Thanks jtstar - my goal was to keep the video short, sweet, and to the point. It's amazing how many "jealous" people missed that. Lol..... anyway, regarding your question..... I think the 2016 base Cayman is still REALLY fun to drive. Whether it's under powered or not is a matter of perspective. I personally don't think it's under powered. As a matter of fact, I think it has more usable power than most owners know what to do with. Most American drivers are used to high "torque", and when they drive a car like the base Cayman which has a very linear torque curve they think it's "under powered". But the truth is that the power band on the Cayman is more like a race engine, designed to give you excellent top end power with very good low end torque. As you can see in my video, it's the type of sports car that's really easy to drive around town (in part due to that great torque spread) and still be extremely capable on a race track. The base Cayman still has 275hp, and only weighs 2800 lbs (and change)..... With a 0 to 60 time of a claimed 5.4 seconds (Porsche is notoriously conservative on their times), it's still a VERY fun package all wrapped up in legendary Porsche engineering, styling, and quality.

      Wow, thanks so much for your very detailed answer. You made a lot of good points, and I must agree with you that most drivers wont even come close to exploiting the car's full power potential. Once again, great review. Disregard all the haters out there! Some people just enjoy criticizing, and looking for negatives.lol....Thanks again for taking the time to address my question :) Much respect,..Peace!!!!

    Wow, it's crazy how little information is in this video. So vague, so obviously used to BSing his way through a conversation. Bounces back and forth constantly without actually saying anything. I am tempted to export a transcript of the video just to count how many times he repeats himself.

Anybody who comments suggesting he do something different to make the review better instantly gets called an idiot. Being able to take criticism and improve yourself based off of it is part of growing up I suggest you learn how to do it.
