New recording of the MOD I did with the increadible affordable ELAC B5 bookshelf speaker of Andrew Jones.
This is recorded with the Tascam DR-05X (which is rather noisy)
Happy listening and maybe you get inspired. Stay sound!

Original track: ua-cam.com/video/nNFxYT-znng/v-deo.html Elac B5 mod. Recorded in room at 3 meter with Xiaomi Redmi 4X smarthpone. Mod is replacing the tweeter 27 ohm serial sand cast resistor with a Superes 22 ohm/10watt. Also using 6" felt rings and extra polyfill at the bottom and back up to the port. (cutout for the crossover) Now with more clarity, very spatious, and tighter/less bass heavy...

Tabaq with w3-881sjf

FM radio recording of TABAQ (Tang Band Quarter Wave) cabinet with Tang Band w3-881sjf (50 gram dampingmat.) on a 5.1 Class-D amp in 2.1 mode. Subwoofer cross is @150Hz Recording has more bass than in real life. 150-500 Hz region is a litte too low because of amp setting. Will record next clip with better amp setting.

A great cover of Depeche Mode (reupped)
That baseline digs deep and the bass output is incredible, enclosure really working well + boundry reinforcement. Are you also recording/sitting in a room mode for those low frequencies?
Sounds funny
Damn they learn quick.
Hi whats your gmail. Got an IT issue
hello. can I ask for your discord please?
More music, please! King's singers tal vez? Cristina Branco tal vez? Thank you!
Thanks for recording! That was really great! Victor Wooten on base ... I took my earphones and was blown a bit, yes. I decide to make a basshorn but after hearing this I should consider the Cyburg Needles.
Great sound great speaker👍👌
Why did you change the value of resistor? What is the mod suppose to achieve? Would same value resistor work with Elac B6 or is this specific to B5 only? Thank you.
The tuning of the original Debut was kinda bottom heavy. The B5 has a 5.25" woofer and a 27 Ohm sand caste resistor in the tweeter circuit. The B6 has a 6" woofer and a 22 Ohm sand caste resistor in the tweeter circuit. To bring the level from 2.5 Khz (tweeter) 2 dB up and improve "resolution" I used a thin film 22 Ohm film resistor. Then used 5" felt around the tweeter to prevent baffle diffraction and enforcement (tweeter now more point source, without the whole baffle area) As I use them with speaker grills I also treated the edges of the grill with felt to prevent diffraction. Result is a very precise soundstage and imaging, together with more clear highs. You have to know 22 Ohm and 27 Ohm are industry standards. A 25-ish Ohm would be perfect if you don't use the speaker grill. But hard to get. However I must use the grill else our cat destroys the drivers :) . Edit: for a B6 use a 20 Ohm thin film instead of de existing 22 Ohm.
@@tweakradje So the resistor swap would make the speaker brighter correct?
@@sebsefyu yes it does
Is there very audible sound improvement with this felt around tweeter? Thanks
I experience much better soundstage. But it only works with replacing the 27 ohm resistor for a 22 ohm thin film (easy and cheap), removing the tweeter cap and using the speaker grills. I also put felt strips on the speaker grill inside vertical and horizontal edges. No diffraction. Thinks this is the best ELAC Andrew Jones speaker he designed for the money. Simply amazing.
The only thing you did to the crossover is to replace the sand resistor with a film resistor? Am I missing anything regarding the xover? Your speaker sure does sound clear with strong bass. I'm surprised the Andrew Jones would release a new model with insufficient sound damping material.
I'm am surprised he choose to use pretty good xover components :) After this model it went downhill. Apart from the resistor (27->22 Ohm) I removed the clip connectors on the binding post side. The new resistor causes a +2dB on the tweeter. The felt around the tweeter and the use of the speaker grill with the lower resistor results in a +1/2dB from the naked original speaker after 2.5kHz (tweeter). I must use the grill to protect my drivers from the cats. Without the grill a 24 or 25 Ohm thin film resistor would be perfect, but they are not industry standard. The polyfill is personal taste I guess but I think the box needs it for the bass. I first used it on bottom and the whole back (with a hole for the reflex port) but that was too much. Now it is only on the bottom and on the back up to the reflex port.
Hi. I saw that the site was restored. I would like to know if you still have an old version of the afd reg file? The one that is now on the site is different from the one that was. Even in the game it feels. Cool sound!
what woods did you use on these speaker cabinets?
Is there a sub?
No
great sound what is your enclosure volume size ? bass reflex or t-line ?
t-line. Look for Cyburg Needles
Do you think an 8 inch sub would pair good with them?
1. Does it require tweeters off axis? On axis, it seems to sound very clear. 2. Also, how much power can it handle? I know its rated at 15W RMS.
For both questions I suggest to use the original drivers for the design: Dayton Rs100-4 or 8. These are alu cones with more high and a much better power handling that gives you better bass and low mids. The Tang Band w3-881sjf is a little too small for this enclosure if you ask me.
The Qts on the SJF model seem a little too low for a TABAQ, but UA-cam quality aside this sounded pretty good
Try running the TABAQs full range without this subwoofer, I believe their phase response are more accurate (i.e. no floppy bass).
I do now but in Cyburg Needles.
how good is the bass on this speakers? is a subwoofer necessary? what are your thoughts on this
If you like heavy bass this speaker with 3" driver is no good. Only if you use 4" full range you get nice bass. Then no need for subwoofer. Use driver like ADW Rs100-4 Dayton or Tangband W4-1320SIF with X-max of 3-4 mm.
Easily one of the best covers of this song!
@knnyphph xD make it two!
I didn't even recognize what it was until after 2:00 lol
Shame I was only 11 or 12 when this concert took place haha. I would have loved to experience this.
arvika so lucky !!! great concert in the best time of apop... i miss this apop!!
