Building our homestead, one day at a time.
Chanyata Farm, located in Southwest Ohio, encompasses nearly 50 acres of tillable fields, pasture land, and old growth forest. Founded in 1941 by the Adamson family, we took over the stewardship of this amazing property in 2018. We raise chickens, vegetables, a small orchard, and process our own maple syrup from this land. Join us at the farm!

Can I be a Mama Hen? Hatching our own Chicks
I would have laid plastic before the styrofoam to cover the 2x4 and then the styrofoam on to top.
Why didnt you just drill from the outside for the pilot hole.
What’s the size of the cat house
Roughly 2’x3’
@ thank you
That’s the base
I've wanted to make one of these cutters because I'm always making projects with styrofoam. This was Awesome!! Thanks!!
Great information!!
Been waiting for this one!
Is this just regular roofing sheet metal?
Yes. It is corrugated galvanized steel panel from Menards. That is how it is listen on their website.
@ChanyataFarm Thank you
Really brings the barn together!
That’s going to be uncomfortable to sleep under.
As long as the wire is on a spring it will move around and thats where you get not so perfect cut from.
Most city people are unaware that they have an option to wash them before consumption
The word is conversing not conversating conversating is not even a word
Traupophobia😖😖😖😖😣😣😣😣😣
Can I just put them straight in the refrigerator with out washing?
No you shouldn’t. This can encourage bacteria to transfer through the shell into the egg
@@ChanyataFarm thank you
Do you think it is possible can you use some bird netting across the top to keep the chickens in
I’m sure you could. It would probably take some type on stake in the middle to kind of tent the whole thing. I’m picturing like an old school circus tent
Stupid question: using AC would work as well but that would be way more hazardous, right?
I am not sure how the Nichrome wire reacts with higher voltages. I do not know if it would just fry the wire. If you try it let us know the results!
great video
We have put unwashed fresh eggs in the frig, can they be left out once they have been in the frig?
I'm sure the cats appreciate it! FYI - if that carpet gets wet it could develop mold and be a hazard for little furries. Stray is generally much preferred for almost any animal warmth/insulation... and cats will not eat stray (but they may eat hay... and yes there is a difference). =)
Nice! What is the dimensions?
It is about 2’x3’
Looking like palace, Where from we get this solar net,can we import this
You’ll have to check out Premier 1’s website
Hard to concentrate on a quite a bit of video, music was way too distracting.
Try heating them too.
Everything you explain, could’ve been shortened down to one minute
Good engineering brother. Thank you for sharing
unkept butthole
How deep are the holes for your 4x4 posts?
The first line is 36” here where I am so we tried to get at least that deep with each hole
Is this good removing chemicals?
If I have an unwashed egg do i have to wash it before I crack it open
Muito bom, mesmo.
Bluegill is my favorite fresh water fish to eat
Getting close to some eaters in the small pond!
Can't wait to see the results!
My favorite quote: “If you don’t ask, the answer will always be ‘No’.”
Looks Good !!!!!!
What did Tractor Supply USE the styro FOR ..... SO i would KNOW what circumstance to ASK for for the foam ?
I believe they were from the small trailers they sell. They get shipped without the wheels on them, stacked up several high. These were the spacers inbetween the stacked trailers
Sounds like a plasma or really sharp torch cut
I haven't tried sap lines before. Can I T a lateral onto the main line with on of those drop spout Ts?
If I am understanding your question correctly, then yes, that is how we did ours
@@ChanyataFarm Fantastic. I have never actually done this and don't know anyone else who does. Basically, I want the mainline to be a 3/16" line and tee off some laterals. (All the other guys on UA-cam have these skookum electro-fusion setups but I'm small time).
Our entire setup is 3/16 lines. We have 15-25 taps tied in to each lateral/mainline run. So it's 3/16 drop tubes t'd into 3/16 "mainlines". They way our sugar Bush is situated it was easier for us to run 5 separate home runs than to tie everything together into a traditional larger mainline.
Just seen your video and subscribed! I'm new to chickens, my oldest are 5 weeks old, I have my coop and run ready for them except for bedding, is the deep layer method only pine shavings? Also could you use this in the run also? Our ground stays damp all the time, so I'm trying to think of something that would work in the run, any ideas?
So yes, the deep bedding is just pine shavings. In the run itself, I use bare wood mulch. Sometimes I’m able to get the chips from a tree service, sometimes I have to buy bags of mulch from the hardware store. This has worked pretty well for us I try to keep at least a few inches of chips in the run I only add chips to the run 1-2 times a year
This might be what I need to protect against raccoons
Sooo I just bought your whole set up with gate because of ur videos! My daughter and I put it up yesterday. My fencing does not look long as urs I did order the 164 How big is ur coop and run? It’s beautiful! Ty for this video
Thank you! Our coop is 6x8 with 24x8 runs on either side
10/10
That Dewalt Finish Nailer though... What Model # is it?
It’s the DCN680 18 gauge Brad nailer. And it is awesome.
Besides the wood shavings, what else do you add to the deep bedding? Or is it just wood shaving by itself? Great video by the way!
Mainly just wood shavings. I might add some straw/hay every so often, but that is only if we happen to have an abundance that needs to get used up. The wood chips do fine on their own
What about aerial predators? Any trouble with solar charger and cloudy weather? Thanks for your video!
Every so often we have aerial predator issues. We usually just put them on lock down for a few days after and that works. As for the solar charger…. I loved the solar charger. Only a handful of times I had to charge it, usually cloudy, snowy weeks over the winter. The entire energizer stopped working about 2 months after it was outside of the warranty. I would have suggested it before then, but o was very unhappy with the lifespan of the unit.
why would you even clean eggs ? It's not like you are eating the shell are you ? Just clean them before breaking. The natural coating works as a sealant, in europe that is a standard
I wish you showed us the entire wire setup assembly. And where did you buy the adjustable height metal rods used to hold the wire with tension? Great video but hard for someone to follow along with what you did.
You can buy something similar. When I was a student in high school, in sculpture class we would use foam board and had a handheld version to easily cut the foam.
This is genius, i have huge sheets that are about 4 to 6 inches tbick and about 4ft by 6ft long that i want to recycle and do this with. For a shed i built out of pallets . The framing doesn't allow for easy installation so i had thought about shredding it but i really didn't want to do that this way i can cut the sheets thinner and just out them up on the inside of the pallets
I put my farm fresh eggs in the fridge not washed. Can i wash them when i get them out of the fridge then cook them?
Yes
I’d get a tarp and lay it out in the sun dry it and use it for a long time
I have a homemade setup that im looking to improve. Do you find with this model that your vacuum ends up pulling in some syrup/condensation or is there a way to prevent that?
Condensation yes. Syrup in VERY small amounts. I clean the inside of the vacuum every so often because of this. I’m not sure if small amount of sugar trap in the water vapor/steam? But the inside of the vacuum does become sticky after several uses.
