Thank you for posting this. My late father (then just 19 years of age) was one of the Paras who dropped at Ranville and cleared the landing zone for the gliders. His kit bag chord was completely severed by a bullet before he landed. Others weren’t so lucky. R.I.P.

My Dad was in a trench for weeks within the grounds of this chateau (2nd Ox & Bucks). Huge grounds, so I understand. He recalled being in the chateau only briefly where they must have given him his orders to then go elsewhere and site himself in a trench. It was the mosquitos he remembered. Dennis Edwards of D Company Ox & Bucks wrote vividly of what he saw in this area upon arrival in his book, The Day The Devil's Dropped In.
