I believe it they had reviewed it 10 yrs later they would have have come to appreciate it more and given it 2 thumbs up
Doesn't have the emotional gut wrench of the fly and video drome but it's a sad end to this.
Did he review videodrome
I honestly could have sworn every single word of this review was for The Room (2003). Especially in reference to the talking bug buttocks lol
"Don't do drugs"
Ornette Coleman on the soundtrack. Leads one to believe interpretation is being called into question.
❤❤❤
David Lynch does not give a shit that he is sitting next to Gwyneth Paltrow its great
"Do you own any exercise equipment?" great interviewing, Jay
Gene Siskel can’t understand metaphors.
These guys sound like fuckin homophobes.
Watched it when it came out back in '91. I was in my "Cronenberg phase" back then. Totally didn't get it and was bored by it. I was 20 then. Think I'll give it 1 more try since im 53 and have a measure of prespective...😊
These guuys cried all day about having to watch the same movie over and over but when something different arrived they were confused and upset.
Wow, Jay was kinda irritating back then... I much, much prefer the new one, with the nice cars and all...
David Cronenberg started using Cinematographer Peter Suschitzky regularly including on Naked Lunch. This is the same director of photography that worked on Empire Strike Back. I think Naked Lunch was immensely elevated by his skill.
I love Halloween 1978
Essentially, the movie adaptation of "Naked Lunch" and bits and pieces out of its author's life into a sci-fi spy film noir steeped in the paranoid, conformist, homophobic, powermad, barely post-fascist, cold war zeitgeist which the original novel critized and parodied - essentially, it is a movie about the dissolution of social identity in a subconsciously surging swirl of surrealism. If you are willing to explore the topic of "the dissolution of social identity" further by means of cinematic fiction.. - I would suggest a quadruple bill of "World on a Wire", "Naked Lunch", "Waking Life" and "Paprika" - but with sufficient pauses in between - so: an early morning to noon screening (the first film is pretty long), an afternoon screening, an after-dinner screening, and then a late night screening. Lots of marvelous stuff to take in, wonder about, digest, discuss in between screenings and afterwards - quite a cinematic bender, but topical.
Very interesting stuff I think I will delve into it. Cronenberg was obsessed with the self. It’s prevalent in a lot of his work. That being said, naked lunch was an almost impossible adaptation. The fact that Cronenberg was able to pull it off speaks volumes about how good of screenwriter he was. Charlie Kaufman, another writer that was obsessed with the self, took a page out of Cronenberg’s work to make the movie “adaptation.” I don’t know that for sure but I suspect it’s true. Regardless, it seems as if both of them set out to adapt the unadaptable.
@@Jesusx23x I absolutely loved Adaptation when it was recent. I have only watched it once, alas. Maybe I can get my hands on a copy to re-watch it. Other great movies (at least partly) on the self by other directors are "Living in Oblivion", "The Science of Sleep", "Being John Malkovich", "The Machinist", "Filth", "Still Alice", "Possessor", "The Lighthouse", "Beau Is Afraid", "Linoleum".
I would like to suggest a quadruple bill of "World on a Wire", "Naked Lunch", "Waking Life" and "Paprika" - but with sufficient pauses in between - so: an early morning to noon screening (the first film is pretty long), an afternoon screening, an after-dinner screening, and then a late night screening. Lots of marvelous stuff to take in, wonder about, digest, discuss in between screenings and afterwards - quite a cinematic bender, but topical on the dissolution of social identity.
A deep dive into social identity dissolving! To further explore this movie's themes cinematically, I would suggest a quadruple bill of "World on a Wire", "Naked Lunch", "Waking Life" and "Paprika" - but with sufficient pauses in between - so: an early morning to noon screening (the first film is pretty long), an afternoon screening, an after-dinner screening, and then a late night screening. Lots of marvelous stuff to take in, wonder about, digest, discuss in between screenings and afterwards - quite a cinematic bender, but topical.
i said aloud afterwards "wtf did i just watch".
Basically a topical road-map to the structural mess of the novel it is based on, this movie combines tropes and motives of the original "Native Lunch", adds a substrate of key anecdotes from the author's personal life and public persona, and makes them more digestible by crafting them into an associatively coherent surrealist plot of a paranoid sci-fi noir spy movie dripping with the 1950s' zeitgeist the original novel rebels against, satirizes and tries to offend in the most extreme way possible.
Can't stop watching Sleepwalkers due to Madchen Amick❤...WONDERFUL!!!
Music at the start?
This is great thanks! But the big question is: what day of the year is D. Cronenberg day?!
We need a re installment if this mivie pls pms
Great sequel
Is Jay high off his a** in this? Wtf? It’s amazing how d*ck energy like this can appear to pull the guest down, but Lynch handles it really well.

My Pennsylvania boyfriend of noir met William Burroughs. He's hidden by Google on social media His dear friend, we are old people now, is legend at X Men I met Charles Bukoski but who cares
I find these guys as fascinating for their misfires (Army of Darkness, in this case) as for their homeruns (like Back to the Future, although anyone could have predicted that movie would become a classic).
One of my favorite movies. Watch before reading the book.
This was more surreal than any Lynch film
He never said his own movie was a masterpiece
Turns out it's man.
Silly movie with some cool ideas and images, just like most of Cronenberg's movies. He's an extremely smart gentleman, though.
You can really sense that David Lynch is about to say some thing clever or funny and Jay Leno just cannot stop talking and cuts him off at every opportunity. It’s kind of like the exact opposite of what you should do as an interviewer. Compare this to what Johnny Carson would do, which is to give space some breathing room to let the guest be charming and fascinating which is why you invited them in the first place
Flatest, whitest review ever.
"its time for me to be a dad instead of a kid"
and this why ive never liked jay leno
I love how odd and unique this movie is. There's nothing like it
I thankfully have the driving skills of David Lynch.
Jay turning the corn up trying to relate while interviewing a beast on another level.
Siskel was like “I didn’t like the movie but I liked the butt stuff”😂
It's funny that he mentioned people running red lights, I notice that all the time now. They're not even close, it really shows a disregard for your own and other people's safety, and for what.
This is like inviting Einstein to Florida
Ebert is generally small minded about anything abstract or abrasive. It has to be pleasant on the surface for him and very clear and concrete
Jay Leno plays to his blue collar audience like he always does.
I was depressed after I saw it for the first time. It's full of hideous images and has a very creepy and grim view of humanity and life in general. But it is an excellent movie. It's the best movie I've ever seen about a writer, and writers are difficult to portray on film.
Burroughs was a junkie who wrote. He was not a writer.
Opinions are like noses: almost everybody has one.
@@JCPJCPJCP Not all opinions are equal. Some are informed, some are not. An opinion has a chance of being true. But there are people who stretch the word "opinion" so far that it includes outright lies as if legitimate opinion.
Nicholas Shields was so damn hot.
mr stephen king youre not a master of horror,..youre the master of plagiarism from the work of others
And you just might be the dumbest person on the internet. It doesn't matter how many times you write this trash, it doesn't make it true. moron.
Of all the clips they showed from Lost Highway here, I’m glad it was this one 😅👌🏼
Like all of lynch art I wonder if the meaning isn't in the question? Why do this?
