Live and recorded video from Barn & Tawny Owl nest boxes in the Peak District, England. Watch these beautiful Owls roosting, nesting, and having owlets.
The Barn Owl nest boxes have been made from old oak whisky barrels that have been recycled & handcrafted into quality, long-lasting owl roosts. Installed in the wilds of the Peak District & fitted with state-of-the-art CCTV cameras, they provide stunning video up to 4K for you to watch and enjoy. We will publish a video later on how to convert an old barrel into an owl's nest box so you can make your own, along with tips to get them nesting. Tawny Owl gets fed voles as she incubates 3 eggs!
Tawny Owls "Izzy" and "Toby" have moved into a nest box I've made from an old oak “whisky Barrel.” Initially, I made the nest box for Barn Owls, but after it got visits from several Tawnies, I tweaked the design to suit them, and it worked. Toby and Izzy have moved in and made it their home to raise a family. The female Izzy has laid a clutch of 3 eggs that she is now sitting on. Toby is not present full-time at the nest yet but brings Izzy food in the evenings to keep her well-fed as she dutifully incubates the eggs. In this video, Toby brings Izzy a vole after she calls him to say she is hungry; you can hear her calling out to him and Toby replying. Please put the sound on to listen to their wonderful communication.

I initially built this nest box for Barn Owls. It’s constructed from an old whisky barrel and makes a great home for the owls. This is a new barn owl nest box we've just put up on a farm in the Peak District, Derbyshire. Overnight, we captured this tawny owl, paying it a fleeting visit. Poor Buster, i was so worried about his distressing calls, and so thankful that Bella came and comforted him. What a scary thing to happen. Hope everything works out for them!
They have since moved to an empty box I've got, and it looks like they may have eggs soon!

It's incredible to see how expressive Buster was after Bella arrived. Just completely shaken and traumatized. Very humanizing. Glad he was okay and that Bella was able to comfort him!

Very good video, although I’d prefer to just hear the sounds without the music and watch without the text. The different views and angles of the video already do a great job in telling the story. Love watching these owls!
Thanks for the feedback. I may try subtitles next time rather than a text overlay. The music is just an experiment to see how people react to it, and if the videos drama is enhanced. I would agree that most footage doesn't really need it

Very cool video! I have an entire playlist on my channel dedicated to the barn owl conservation efforts I've been involved with for the past four years at my archery club in Chino Hills, CA. If you're trying to attract barn owls to your area for pest control, or just because you love them and think they're cool - I HIGHLY recommend using the design that I employ. I didn't come up with the design, but adopted it from the Barn Owl Trust, a UK organization dedicated to furthering the propagation of the species. Too much light! Try using night vision equipment....owls are nocturnal...they need zero light! I think all that light could be damaging to their amazing eyes. Aside from the too much light issue, your nest box is Beautiful!
It's infrared light, they don't see it.
As the other reply said I use infra red to illuminate the boxes so the owls can see it as its invisible to their eyes.
Not sure if it was Ringo or the female that was first in and last out, but he or she seemed very impressed with the accommodations. Even going so far as to bury her/his head in the leaves to simulate sleeping conditions. He/she must have been thinking: "We'd better put a bid in on this one before we lose out." 😅 Great video!
