Music programs are being cut all over the world. How can people do this? Well it's quite simple. Most band programs don't make any money. So the question is how do you keep your band program alive? Unless you have thousands of people filling your concerts paying money to see your band you are kinda screwed. Don't worry there are lots of ways you can save money and make money.

DIY Ride Cymbal converted into a sizzle

Low.... LOWWWW budget way to get a new use out of an old cymbal. Converting an old ride into a sizzle ride is a great use of a dusty old cymbal. And it gives your drummer more options to play with during jazz ensemble and the solo sections.

Anyone Can Write A Drumline Cadence

Why Every Band Program Should Have A Yamaha YDS-150

@charlieklein8641 yeah, and all these years later it was good experience to make me a better employee. But as it made me more organized, careful with my words, cover my tracks when I'm doing work. It has been good for me. I see lots of other people I've worked with who don't do these things. Buttttttttttt..... that guy is still a horrible person lol. So even though I grew, he is still an abusive type of person. Which is sad.
What type of drum head are you using on that gong drum?
@MrSpetten it's just a normal bass drum head. It's one I had sitting around that was used
I don't know if you'll see this, but do you need to use a new vinegar solution every day or can you use the same one for the entire process? Also can you put it right back into the vinegar after wiping it down or do you have to wait a little while before putting it back in?
I used the same solution throughout the whole process. From what I saw, I don't believe changing each day would benefit it in any way over the same stuff. (Also save on money) I did it honestly two different ways. The saxophone I was meticulous about taking it out each day and soaking it in hot water (which was a real challenge at that time, apartment, 4 minutes of hot water) wiping it down and then putting it back in. The trumpet. i just left it in for like a week and pulled it out at the end and gave it a hot bath and wiped it down. The saxophone I think looks nicer, but it also I think is just the metal itself.
THANK YOU
@@benmarkus3675 my pleasure!
Fun project. I was working years ago for a local drumline (small) with 3 bass drums (as well as 1-2 snares and tenors). The judge make the comment "a legato mallet for the bass drum passages on this song would really make a good impression." So, we did similarly. Dowels, thick masking tape (the one I used would naturally compress), and (wait for it) Shammy material (that we sewed a 'drawstring pouch' around). The judge loved it (same judges in rotation for all competition), and we spent (at the time) a whopping $30 max for 6 mallets. I'm not sure how they held up after the season, though.
I love it!
My cadences that i have played r 4 opening groove measures 3 measures of groove with a groovy 1 measure ending which repeats back to main groove and then repeat to the beginning Another one i did was 4 measures of groove and then it goes into 1 measure features for each section(director hates cymbals and never adds em) the 4th measure is like that last phrase you meantioned, then there’s another section with 3, 2 bar groove phrases and last 2 measure are closing and then it leads back to start of cadence
Nice! I like it
Sir how long you drip it to vinager ?
I did 7 days
I have a BA in Theory/Composition as a guitar major. Currently record music. I've been a fan of EMCProduction that made me take interests in drumline. I agree about the bass drum part since "White Boy Smooth" is the catchy part from his videos. I'm considering about arranging the Secret Levels from Super Mario Sunshine as the drumline cadence but not sure is it going to be energetic or laid-back.
Just go for it man, As you probably already know nothing is going to make you better more than getting your hands dirty. First few cadences I wrote were terrible, but now I can pop out consistent cadences if need be. Some are better than others but this at least gives an idea

I use to book tours which I loved doing it. Overall, and I would not quote me on this but deal making I probably had an 80%+, however issuing contracts...that's when promoters would still want to do the show but started dropping the ball. Always tried to make things fair, where both the artist & promoter would be able to profit...that said while not accounting for alcohol sales. In my mind...you as a venue or promoter still took a risk. Any idea why some of them may have canceled last minute ? curious what you may have to say because talent fees versus venue cap...always under 50% of avail tickets. However, I would also ask for a percentage on top of the guarantee, which I'd always aim for 50% after expense...that way there's still incentive. Talent fees weren't much, the artists were signed with merch in physical store fronts. Extremely different from what you mentioned someone asking to play a show you booked and wanting 2k...without. Part of me has always wondered...were those that canceled...doing so because they went from in their mind fantasy to reality? in turn being overwhelmed? While I'm sure there's things I could've done better...it's just a little odd how they seemed excited, willing but in the end just all talk. I even routed the tours intentionally so the stops were never to far apart so the talent fee without percentage they'd still get there and have a chance to sell merch. That said, when I say 80% that being, if someone got back without outright saying no, usually ended up with a deal being solidified.
Just curious because someone I worked with I agreed for them to be paid 700 however it was several states away from where they were from, which if I remember correctly resulted in dates to/from also. Never had an artist complain about the talent fees I was getting but kept having promoters end up canceling and more often then not they didn't have much or any prior experience promoting. Some promoters, integrity wise I was pretty confident didn't need a contract, those I feel that way towards...never canceled. When agreeing to that though originally was suppose to be a one off...given that's what was being offered plus the travel...had no issue with it. If you were a local venue/promoter and they couldn't even bring in that I wouldn't feel right agreeing.
@@wertyghjkl-fc3dx what do you mean by you had an 80%+?
@@caseydoremus5324 By that I mean take a 10 day tour. I contact 10 promoters, they all show interest...8 of the 10 I would get the terms that I was looking for whereas the other 2 of 10...either I would have to agree to their counter or either continue negotiating with a different promoter from the same area or find a new contact. If not, either it turns into a door deal with no talent fee or an off day.
@@caseydoremus5324 Meaning 8 out of 10 able to get terms I felt were fair without having to negotiate with a different promoter.
@@caseydoremus5324 8 of 10 shows able to get terms I felt were fair, the other 2 of 10 having to accept a counter or continue negotiating with other promoters. Overall the first few tours, more so helping bands find shows. One of the first only roughly 45% of dates had shows whereas the last several I did 95%, where the 5% remaining had preplanned possibility of off dates that could be filled.
Also merchandising is very important too!! Yogurt from Spaceballs was an expert on the subject: Spaceballs the T-shirt, Spaceballs the coloring book, Spaceballs the breakfast cereal, Spaceballs the lunchbox, and I’m sure I don’t need to mention *SPACEBALLS THE FLAMETHROWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!* The kids love that one!!!
@@davidmcaninch4714 I will say I think it's an interesting subject. When it comes to bands, yes merchandising is crucial. But if as a venue, it can be a giant waste of money depending on how it operates. If you are a destination spot. Like you are open every weekend and people just go because they love the venue awesome. But my venue was only open for concerts. So no one was there because of the venue. It was for the band. So when we have a competing merch table it actually pissed off some bands. And they'd lay someone to man the booth all night and we sold close to nothing every night

What would I be looking at if the venue was held once a year, possibly a 3 day show, and multiple acts? 100,000+ attendance. How would anyone go about starting this?
If you've never promoted in the past. To be frank, you're gonna lose every dime to your name if you try to pull this off from the start. I've seen if happen time after time. It's like a kid learning to play guitar. You can't start with Eruption by Van Halen. You have to learn a G chord first. Or at least how to play a couple strings and get your placement correct on the neck. Those type of events have to start small. Start with local acts. Don't try and grab Jellyroll or some giant name year one. You'll probably lose all your money, and if the event is a disaster your looking at lawsuits up the rear. So you have to start out small. Get comfortable running events. And as you go you can build up to a festival. Also most of those people who run festivals have the names because they've built relationships with them for years and years. If you have been doing it awhile that is a different story.
So, as a tip, if you have one of those screws that match the nut you have you can run the nut all the way to the bottom and torque it a bit against the screw head. Then you can hold the threads and spin the nut easily to grind down its diameter. Bonus points if you hold it in such a way that whatever you are using to grind it doesn't try to back the nut off the threads.
This was an excellent video. Thank you very much.
Thank you!
I wouldn't mess around with a new pedal like a Trick or Demon Drive........but If they have no warranty. ...no worries.
Where would I be able to go to get access to the Google sheets spreadsheet? Thanks.

hi sir, what's the harm to the saxophone compared between vinegar and those chemicals? I've heard from a sax Luthier on UA-cam that the chemicals thin and therefore weakens the metal specially in the circles the pads touch (Sorry for the crap description) does this happens also with the vinegar? thanks for the information sir
The only thing I've seen as far as harming the instrument was the pearls on the saxophone broke down. And some joints looked to lose a bit of soldering, but nothing that was too bad.

This was a great video. This sounds like an impossible industry to be in. My dream is to own my own venue and this was enlightening. The biggest question for me is the size of the venue to go with. Something small and more intimate or something like The Fillmore.
Honestly it's easier to start small. Way more room to grow and learn from. When you got a large venue it has more daily cost. Also it's good to start out doing concert promoting. renting a place that you can have a concert at. If you can start to really build events doing that then getting your own place is good
