A channel focused on video gaming, with a strong focus on Atari, but I enjoy games from Nintendo, Sega, the ol' MS-DOS days and more. Yes, I own an operate a real arcade business, so some videos might be filmed there.
A New Entry In Brick Breaking With Atari's Breakout Beyond
Saved from the flames of development hell on the never released Intellivision Amico console, here's a new entry into Atari's legendary Breakout series - the third we've seen in the past few years (following Breakout Recharged and Neo Breakout). Even though this uses the Beyond moniker, it isn't featuring characters and a story, like Lunar Lander Beyond did. #atari #breakout #gamingnews

Previously Unreleased Atari Jaguar Game Livewire Coming This Year

It's a great time to be a Jag fan, as another thought to be "long lost" video game for the Atari Jaguar console is coming out, although it isn't know what state of progress it will be (100% finished or demo finished). Restored by @REBOOTPushthebutton games, this shows some impressive graphics for the system, much in the way that the original Grand Theft Auto worked #atari #videogames #gamingnews

Rogul is a new, free roguelike game created for the Atari 8-bit computer line. I'm playing on an Atari XEGS using a MyIDE II cart. Of course, as any roguelike, there's a good chance you can end up dead rather quickly, so be prepared, noble adventurer. #atari #retrogaming #roguelike More info and the free download: www.atarimania.com/game-atari-400-800-xl-xe-rogul_43225.html

Unboxing An Atari 7800+, Testing Some Games

Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals. I got an Atari 7800 , so time to open it up and check it out. Yes, it works with the Dragonfly cart, although not every game works (while some games that don't seem to work on my OG 7800 work fine). There are some cards that link to some more exciting unboxings I have done of various arcade machines. #atari #7800 #gaming

I grabbed both DLC packs for the Atari 50th Anniversary Collection and I was not disappointed by what they added to it. One of those games, M Network's never released Tower of Mystery, has quickly become one of my favorite 2600 games. Perhaps had this been released in '83/84, M Network would've held on for a while longer, as it's a really fun and surprisingly deep game for the system. What else...

"The Ultimate Halloween Nightmare" - Midnight Mutants For The Atari 7800

Happy Halloween! There are a few fun horror games that are found on Atari systems, although one of the best ones is the 7800 exclusive Midnight Mutants. Released on October 31st 1990, this was the last commercial release for the Atari 7800 ProSystem in North America. This is the closest that the system ever got to having a game that is in the vein of the Legend of Zelda or Haunted House, but is...

If they give us mouse support on PC then we could use usb spinners like GRS. Works amazing on breakout recharged and arkanoid eternal. I hope they release it on GOG as well.
Not a bad movie. Helped me out. And also helped remind me two things 1) this game goes longer than you'd think. 2). I had already beat this as the Predator. I came close to solving as the Marine, probably need to try that again.
Your kid ruined this
That sound effect at the beginning..was that from Pac-Man on the Atari 2600?
I was there visiting the power rangers
I bought the Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration. They gave me TWO DLC packs, so now I have 155 games. I also bought the Mini 400. I bought an Atari 400 in 1982 for $150 (but got $50 rebate) 8o)
My hope is they would release what they have to the public, code and rom. They can make carts and sell them if they want to then, for those that want them. Would be nice if someone finished it someday. But this will likely be another money grab for the Reboot boyz... edit - dont forget to pin your update.
Reboot is not a publisher. AA is. If people want carts as an option that's fine but there's no reason for Reboot to be involved in that.
@@A31Chris valid point - they dont need to be in bed together anyway = this is a demo and not finished, no one should pay unless they finish it, or just for the honor of a cart
I think this is going to be a cartridge release so, the ROM will be leaked in the future by one of buyers of this release. Hey! People bought SNES minis just for Star Fox 2 and ripped the finished ROM from it so anything is possible XD
Well well well.... ... if it isn't another Reboot money making scam. According to the Leonik website the community had the misfortune of Reboot getting ahold of the early version of Livewire to help that emulator they were modifying. Badly. It's not Reboots and they got it for free. But now the rest of us gonna have to pay to see this huh? And pay Reboot at that. Let DML release it to the community for free like he released it to them. Why are we going to have to be paying anyone for this unfinished demo. And if anyone why in the hell are we paying Reboot?
For real, they keep milking Doom and Hexen to get people to buy shovel ware mini games, and now this demo shit
Well we did had the atari 5200 and the rest was history😁
Quick Update: Jumping At Shadows is available for the Jag now (I need to pick it up here soon) and Reboot will release "all that remains" of Livewire, so I guess it is all dependent on what version was recovered.
fantastic! always good to see unreleased games get a new life
Looks great

An unexpected channel to be covering Nintendo Switch 2 news. Got to say though, wish you were in charge of naming the system; Nintendo Snap would be a much cooler name. Similar to Switch but unique. 0:29 - I do believe I've heard of an Atari handheld in development (has a number pad and a dial, so very Atari), with a similar look to the Switch. 3:47 - I feel part of the confusion with the Wii U is not just the name but the design as well. The Wii U's console was barely noticeable (the gamepad got all the attention) and didn't look very different to the standard Wii. I worry that the Switch 2, looking merely like a bigger and darker Switch, will face similar issues. At least with the various numbered Playstations, the consoles looked quite a bit different each time. 5:26 - That's been my worry from all the leaks we've been having and with it's current reveal. My favourite game system is the Wii, so unique features are always an interesting feature to see and Switch 2 so far seems to lack that. 6:53 - I appreciate they are larger, though sadly, they don't appear thicker. 8:53 - I was hoping for Nintendo Switcheroo (or Switchertwo) but Nintendo Snap or even Switch Snap is an awesome name idea. 11:04 - But unless there's a specific Switch 2 feature to take advantage of, what would be the point of a dual release for Metroid Prime 4? Twilight Princess was released on Wii to take advantage of motion controls, Breath of the Wild released on Switch because it wasn't backwards compatible with Wii U, but a backwards compatible Switch 2 has no reason to be dual release. 14:27 - Agreed, the Wii U had a lack of prep for it and it seems Nintendo was surprised at the development difficulties that came with working on a HD system (which they shouldn't been, given they had examples of many faltering companies during 2006-2009 from HD development transition). Without the HD hurdle jump and with even more time to be used to this level of tech, I feel Switch 2 won't have to worry about prep time or games experience at least. 16:35 - That Asteroid's arcade game you showed off before, Asteroids Recharged, that would be cool to see on consoles. Don't exactly have many arcades near me.
Nethack with epyx graphics on the st
Iron Soldier 4 would be easy to do, if someone grabbed the rights to it.
this is why you should have bought 2 of them one for playing and the other one for collecting
I found Bentley Bear insanely difficult to remove from mine. Like you mentioned on startup, I’m disappointed by the lack of the original splash screen. They nailed the overall package but came up short in so many other places.
How does the controller feel compared to the original?
Feels just barely thicker, but overall I do like it (and of course any pad is much better than the Painlines)
My only problems with the system are the included wireless controller, the lag is ridiculous. They might as well included wired controllers. And the way it copies the rom from the cartridges when loading, it takes forever. I'm playing Casey's Gold and Circus Convoy on it and they run fine but the controller makes them almost impossible to play. There's a guy from FL on ebay that makes custom wired controllers that are more like the NES gamepad that I had to order.
That might be the issue we encountered at one point, although it was hard to tell as we were playing a game where we didn't really know the controls (Summer Games). Fortunately I do have a few wired controllers, just in case :)
I actually think the wireless controllers work good and didn’t notice any lag at all.
@@Atarifan72 What games are you playing? Casey's Gold there is a noticable delay when trying to jump over enemies or trying to line up to climb ladders. It's incredibly frustrating.
@ I’ve mainly been playing Mr Run N Jump and Bentley Bear and both work great with no lag at all.
9:00 The Object Processor always used a double line buffer. This allows to use more time to render sprites. SNES needs to fit all sprite rendering (pixel shader) into the side borders. Jaguar 2 was supposed to get duplicated registers in the blitter so that the GPU can set-up the new blit, while the old is in process. I wonder if a multiplexer as with the double line buffer behind the ObjectProcessor. But wouldn’t a multiplexer add latency? Maybe there is a queue and values are sneaked in while something else stalls.
Very well made game, but too difficult to be enjoyable unfortunately. Hardcore gamers would appreciate it, however casual gamers should play the demo before purchasing (I wish I had).
The console market was Atari's to lose. I think they had sold 10 million VCS/2600 before Pac-Man and another 6 million by the end of 1982, because of Pac-Man. They also got the cost down in Taiwan or Hong Kong. If they had decided to go all-in on a new console with the release of Pac-Man that might have saved the market because it was a must-have game (killer app). But the success of Space Invaders, followed by a good 1981 with Asteroids and Missile Command, let them rest. Maybe if Mattel's Intellivision got Space Invaders and that took off, then they might have sprung into action. I heard there was also some discord with Atari losing programmers, and the arcade and computer divisions having rivalry with the console division. Of course people were buying their kids home computers that could also play games (like the William Shatner ad for Commodore VIC-20 said). So I think Atari needed a console that could play cartridges compatible with their home computers, and not backwards-compatible with the VCS/2600 (SNES did just fine years later not being backwards-compatible with the NES). Coleco sold that adapter (really a 2600 plug-in) to play Atari 2600 games and that was a mistake. Everyone who bought that didn't buy at least 1 Colecovision game instead. I think Intellivision followed because there was an ad saying with their 2600 adapter they then had the most games. Instead of Mattel releasing a new system they tried the Intellivision II which was the same thing but at a lower cost and price. I don't think Atari lost money in 1982, but their report said their profits would increase by 15% instead of the previously predicted 50% (perhaps because people bought many good 3rd-party games in 1982 instead of exclusively ones made by Atari). I hadn't heard of arcade owners suffering because of console games, though I heard some arcades closed during the Crash. It seemed to bounce back, because I went to the arcade at college in 1989+, which had games I wanted to play, like Tetris and Rampart.
SHOULD PACK IN 20 GAMES OR MORE AND REDUCE THE PRICE GREATLY
Archaic "games" could run on a broken calculator. Release the jag2 and make completely new games for that
Nice video. First of all im a big 7800 fan. But i dont think there was anything Atari could do to compete with Nintendo. They sold 7800 as a budget system so I think they did well for what it was. What I think they should have done was release it in1984 as scheduled with the Pokey chip in the system. I think Pole Position 2 was fine but they had to make more games. I think your idea of Pitfall 3 would have worked. But cant wait for 1990 that would have been mario 3 time
Thanks. I think that they could have competed, but it would have required a corporate mentality and culture that was different to both Warner (keep the ports coming) and the Tramiels (cut costs to the bone) had in place. As I allude to, they needed to really sit down and compete - "what ideas do we have that can make better games than what Nintendo is making?" That would have required them to re-hire some of their star talent like Howard s. Warshaw or Tod Fyre, or Warren Robbinett. They basically needed their Miyamoto or Yu Suzuki, someone with vision, but all of those guys were laid off/fired. :/
I politely disagree. Had the 7800 launched in 1984, Pole Position II would have wowed people and been a _great_ pack-in game. But by 1986, the 'wow' factor was gone and the replay value was lower than other offerings. Given what Atari had on hand, it is my opinion that Ms. Pac-Man would have been a better choice as it's a universally beloved game, showcases the graphical capabilities of the 7800 and also demonstrated that the 7800 was going to have the best versions of arcade games yet available. For the 7800+ launch, the choice to go with Bently Bear's Crystal Quest is again, not a choice I agree with because although it is a platformer, it's not a _Mario_ style platformer. Crystal Quest began as a port of Wonderboy/Adventure Island 1 to the 7800 before suggestions were made to amend it to an original game with the defunct Atari mascot. It's a good game don't get me wrong, but it's a YMMV type experience. Of the available games, Food Fight would have been a better pack-in. The Atari 7800 port of Food Fight is excellent.
Perhaps, but I still think that something original in the realm of the platformer would have been the way to go. The 5200 and ColecoVision are great examples of this too - basically everyone from 1982-86 except for Nintendo had an arcade port as their pack in. Even when Atari switched to Pac-Man on the 5200 from Super Breakout, it did nothing to turn the tide of disinterest that the public had towards video games in '83-'84. SMB was proof that they wanted originality and creativity. Atari had become so wrapped up in ports that it's part of what killed them off. It oversaturated the market. Every where you went, there were ports. Yes, Ms. Pac-man on the 7800 would have been better than PP2, but it still was a game that everyone had already played a bunch for four years at that point. I doubt that would have moved the needle much either. Food Fight is a great game, but I'm glad that they've stuck with Crystal Quest. I don't care that it isn't an SMB clone, just that it's a platformer. When it comes to showing potential noobs what the 7800 can do, it's far more impressive than anything Atari had with their Fabulous Eleven...although now that I think about it, Rikki & Vikki is perhaps the game that would make a better pack-in (when it comes to wowing people from a technical perspective)
Atari and Sega both fell victum to the mentality of "the arcade at home" People wanted new experiences at home. Sega kind of got it with Mega Drive/Genesis, but droped the ball with Saturn.
I still wish they would have come up with a game genie for Atari...like what Nintendo had ... so that games could be more awesome!
Truth... good video. There still is room for more platformers for those that have learned to program for the 7800. Mr. Run and Jump is good too. A new 'Pitfall! 3' on the 7800 would be a dream!
I agree. Pitfall 2 or Pitfall 3 would of been a better choice. Other games I would have consider would be a new version of Gauntlet or Paperboy.
I just got my 7800+ today. So far it seems to mostly do what it says on the tin. Tower toppler started but was weird. I haven't opened bounty bob yet--but am looking forward to that new game, even if I recall the a8 version being just a bit mean.🤣
Oh no, not a tower toppler issue. Love that game…
I'm hoping to get one for Christmas. If not, I'll buy one for myself for my birthday, lol.
This is the first time I have heard about this. The 3200 sounds like it would have only been a marginal upgrade from the 2600 compared to the 5200 which really flexed better graphics and sounds. It would have been a failure when competing against ColecoVision’s graphics capabilities. Even the 7800 only felt like a marginal upgrade from the 5200 and it was competing against the NES and consumers did not want to keep upgrading their existing consoles and buying their existing games library for a new system. Backwards compatibility would have been a big selling point for the 5200 especially when Coleco had a 2600 expansion module so they really fumbled that with the 5200 though they later sold a cartridge adapter but by then it was too little too late.
Going to have to add this to my GSP expansion. Also need to finally install the Atari 50 package on my Switch. Thanks for highlighting this one!
It's funny how people think you can run doom on anything?? You can't even run it on original game boy. Or gameboy color..if that makes sense?
Does that work with just a dvd remote? Oh nvm ur using the tetris disc
Looks like an attempt Mattel made to bring Tower of Doom to 2600. Tower of Doom was in my opinion the best game on the Intellivision.
OH CRAP THIS IS AWESOME!!! Glad to see this elusive game is finally playable now!
Can be called Atari Jaguar 2 ? The sames persons are behind the Nuon.
I imagine if I was playing this as a kid in the dark In the 90s it would have scared me😅. The music is actually pretty creepy.
Imagine if they actually went out of their way to port this game to modern consoles and pc, and make it accessible to those who can't afford to buy a Nuon and stuff online
I think the problem is that a port would have to be a NUON emulator made for the target platform...the original T3K was all done in assembly and on the weird NUON chip, there's nothing quite like it out there. Demand for NUON stuff is so low however, that I doubt this would happen, outside of a "Tempest Legends" compilation at some point.
What ugly graphics and horrible sound for 1990.
To be fair, the 7800 was a system designed in 1983/84 and this game did not use any kind of mapper/extra RAM or sound chip. But that's where I do think that an improved version would be rather nice
meh, it looks pretty god for the time especially considering some other options.
Always admired the idea of Midnight Mutants. Reminds me of a CGA styled DOS PC games with no sound blaster upon reflection.
There was one game I played a bit from that era...Harry's House of Horrors, I think? Definitely had a similar vibe to it, although I suppose MM could have thrown in a few puzzles instead of just being more of a Robotronish or Berzerk style shooter
Great game, it still amazes me that you can play Marine, Predator or Alien, and get a quite different game and gameplay each time. Good stuff. Thanks for the video!
What about the Colecovision, which had an add on you could use to play Atari games! :) Intellivision was clearly the superior system between the atari and intellivision, better graphics, (compare night stalker and dark cavern) funner games, Night stalker was way more fun than dark cavern
happy 30th! 🥳
So was the 5200 the 3200?
No, the 3200 was technically a different system; the 5200 took its place after they couldn't get the hardware to work right, which ended up making the 5200 a "quick" job
@@iratanongrata5973 thanks for the history fact
