Working on old cars, small engines and odd projects has always been something I loved, and that's what I share here on this channel.
I am currently restoring a 1955 International Harvester that I rescued from the woods, but I also plan to work on other projects here and there along the way.

1955 International Engine Install!
Переглядів 1,4 тис.2 роки тому
At long last, the 1955 International Harvester R180 gets a new engine. As much as I held out to find another international engine and transmission to put in there, none ever appeared in my area so we're working with the motor and transmission we have. #truckrestoration #restoration #internationalharvester #projectcar #projecttruck #rusty

1955 International Harvester: Brakes part 1
Переглядів 4,7 тис.2 роки тому
In this video, we tackle removing the tires and wheel cylinders on the International Harvester R-180 project truck. This video was actually filmed and edited last year, but I discovered that I had lost quite a bit of footage so I let it sit for a while. Now that I'm moving forward on the truck again, I figured I would release what I have with a small update at the end. Thanks for watching!
How To Use Generic Coils To Restore Spark On Most Old Outboards

In this video, we take a look at the best way I have found to get back spark on older outboards that may be suffering from a bad coil without worrying about sourcing rare and expensive antique outboard parts.
1955 International Harvester - 454 & SM465 Clutch and Fit-Up
Переглядів 6 тис.3 роки тому
The International Harvester R-180 Restoration is back at last, now with a new transmission (SM465), clutch, and crossmember. In this video, I'm aiming to get my "new-to-me" transmission mated to my 454 which previously had an automatic. Once everything is done, we'll be one step closer to putting it in the truck and hearing it run for the first time. #truckrestoration #restoration #internationa...
Argo Electrical and Brakes - Argo Magnum 8x8 Project Part 3
Переглядів 5 тис.3 роки тому
After a long delay, the Argo project is back again. This video covers flushing the brakes and trouble shooting a few electrical issues, such as failure to charge the battery and a broken ignition on the Argo. This video was actually made a few months before it was published, so I hope to have another update video with some more action sometime soon.
1948 Elgin Outboard, Will it Run?
Переглядів 6 тис.3 роки тому
This is my 1948 ( I believe) Elgin Outboard, It's been sitting "stuck" in my garage for a few years, and for who knows how long before that. In this video we try to get the ignition sorted out by replacing the coils and laminate with a mismatch of parts and see if it will run for us. Eventually, I plan on possibly putting this motor on the back of my Argo to use when crossing bodies of water.
1955 International Harvester Restoration 1 Year Progress and Update

Now that the snow is melted, I can get back to working on my 1955 International Harvester R-180 Restoration. This video shows everything that was done last summer and fall to the truck, and gives a minor update as to the trucks current status. As soon as I'm able to source a few more parts, I'll start working on the next video in the series. #truckrestoration #restoration #internationalharveste...
Argo Axles and Bearings - Argo Magnum Project Part 2

In this video we're replacing all of the Argo Magnum 8x8 bearings and pulling all the old axles out of the old Argo 8x8. This took a lot longer than I thought it would, but I'm glad it's done. If you would like to follow along at home, the process is similar for most older Argo 8x8 and Argo 6x6 models. If you want anything explained in more detail, feel free to ask. Argo 8x8 Project Part 1

I purchased this old Argo Magnum 8x8 with tracks and a trailer for.. way too much. For this first video in the series we will take a look at the Argo 8x8 to determine which components need attention or replacement so that I can source them for repair. Later in the series, after the machine is operating properly, we'll look into building it up the way I would like it with a custom enclosure, out...
Vapor Blasting 1955 International R180 Cab

Nice work.
When is the next video?
Thank you for sharing, I hope to make this work on one off my outboards.
I'm thinking your original bearing play was due to those crappy rubber gaskets after seeing the cork compressed nicely, great video mate,I'm thinking of getting one to strip down and fix up,your videos are great for reference, cheers from Scotland 🏴
Thank you sir ,great video
had one i got with a 1950 johnson good motor i had to machine a water pump for it ran great sold to duck hunter for 200 dollars that was 20 yrs ago hes still using it. treat them right they run forever.
Hoping to see a update video! Im loving this thing
@@sandyv4819 thanks Sandy, I have a video almost all ready to go but life keeps getting in the way!
Thanks for this video. I have a 2009 Argo Avenger 750efi and I have to start a new bearing project soon. When you say that you can’t buy the axels new, do you mean for any Argos or just for the machine you are working on here?
@@Zircon_215 I was just referring to that older generation of Argo, but I was actually wrong thankfully and you can still buy new from a few spots. Depending on the year, I think your avenger may have a very different bearing set up then this Argo does. Check out "Alaska Adventures" videos, I believe he has a video or two on avenger style bearings.
Hi. Coils are not available for 1991 3.3 HP Johnson outboard year 1991. Will a coil work from other years. ?
@@rainerneumeister5239 it may, if it has a similar shape and numbers. It looks like it has a very different shape than the older styles I usually work with. I just did a quick check and I was suprised to see that they're so hard to find for that motor/year. Might have to turn to ebay if you can't find a suitable match on a new one
How's the build coming?
It's coming along well, but the videos are not unfortunately. I've lost several videos back to back because of lost clips and videos, I'm not sure if its my cameras or computer. At the moment though, the truck is getting ready for its coolant system and a custom driveshaft, then it will be ready to putt up and down the road.
Using bread believe it or not works even better than grease to remove the pilot bearing because it doesn't squeeze out as much
@@talesfromthebottle6314 I don't know if I ever showed that in a video, but I did try it at one point! I wonder how desperate the first guy who tried using bread to remove the pilot bearing was lol.
Pretty dam slick you ole dog, beating the corporations at there own game i applaude you n thanks fer showing us also!!!!snooky pa
When are they anymore videos
nice work! I did one on my channel too !
Looking forward to getting into this and finding some inspiration for my 8x8 NKB in the UK. Was running and used on water including swimming in the Atlantic about 6 years , on the SW coast. Issues with the carb but aim to sort it this autumn.
They invented the gear shift later on Evinrude and Johnson did company was very innovative OMC wich is gone now. Look up on plant 1 you can see the history of OMC plant 1 on UA-cam.
I may give that a shot. This video is several years old now, but just tonight I bought a boat with an old OMC Cobra outdrive on it. It's too bad they folded, but at least parts are still easy enough to come by in my area.
Do you have the part number or link for the rear cylinders please
WC37180 is the part number that I used, I got it from Rock Auto but there are a few sources. There were a few different brake options for those year internationals, I think it depended on what rear axle you have.
So did you put transmission fluid in the cylinders?
@@jimatkins2980 it's been a few years since I made that video, I don't remember the exact fluid I used to lubricate the cylinders any longer
@@RustRehab I really appreciate all your input and information. It's been a big help. Where would I start to look for a water pump. 1955 30 horse Elgin?
@@jimatkins2980 if you can find a parts diagram online and pull the part number off that, just googling it or putting it into Amazon often produces results. I wonder sometimes if a 3d printer could be used with a proper filiment to replicate them.
@@RustRehabthat's the approach I'm trying with the water pump. I pulled the plugs today and I was amazed that when it was winterized the oils were still there. But yeah I think a 3d-printer would work. I hadn't thought of that. I'll do some research on it and get back with you. That's a great idea 💡
Please can you list all the parts you are using clutch flywheel everything I’m doing the same swap thank you!
@RustRehab ah got it. They came off pretty easily and should have it back together this week. Thanks for the quick response and will keep watching ya!
Working on my 47 IHC KB5 and found some new 750 20 tires out of China. Pulled the rims and at ture shop now. Once off there is another series of bolts that just spin. Look like they're going into the drum. Trying to figure out back side on and was hoping I'd see you remove rims but didn't on video unless I missed that one?
@@brunoclassics nope, sorry! Those tires are actually still on those rims today for me. They're almost ready to go back on the truck, but there's a tire shop up my way that still does these tires so I'll just have them do it all when the time comes for a replacement
Just finished all of your International truck videos, hoping you have some more coming soon! Love your videos!
Thanks man, I appreciate that! Still picking away at it!
your black firewall piece is on wrong,, it slips into a grove at the top, and you have it on the outside of the machine, the top ducks under one piece and against the other at the top, look and you will see what im talking about,, iv got a conquest that i bought new in 96 and it still looks new,, it took the place of the magnum but is the exact same machine except 4 the engine witch is a 20 hp Kawasaki v-twin and liquid cooled, i don't understand why we can't get parts 4 these old machines anymore, it ain't like you need parts 4 a new one, somebody needs 2 tell odg that and we ain't happy, it also might have a influence on buying a new machine someday...
That was delightfully Canadian and I am looking forward to watching the rest of this series.
Hi, when we gry new episode
Well im glad i found you. Like you i got the bug. My bug is a 65 international v225 tractor With 549 v8 and a clark 5 speed and 2 speed axle. On Air. It runs and drives Needs maintaince and rust repair..
A 549v8, there's a motor! Mine eventually ended up with a 454 Chev, I looked for over a year for an international motor to put in but their just not common in eastern Canada like they are in the USA.
What this said about at "1:10" is basically correct. Or as also called a: "COMBINATION MANIFOLD". "DANG!" I LOVE THIS! But at the same time, I also envy the snot out of this guy watching him doing what I've always had a love to do and hopefully will do again one day: "RESTORE ANTIQUE TRUCKS". But with me, I don't want to just: HEAR THIS TRUCK PURR LIKE A KITTEN, SEE THIS TRUCK ABLE TO DRIVE AROUND. NO, I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THE OLD TRUCK "FULLY RESTORED" PAINTED, AND EVERYTHING!!! Of course, I will be impatiently watching and waiting for it.
What pilot bearing is that? Im getting ready to swap a 454 into my truck with the same trans
The part number I used was NTL-PB656HD from Summit. Good luck with your swap!
No fuel
Shoot starter fluid in the carburetor
Is it necessary to use a coil spacer tool to make sure coils are seated properly?
I'll bet the piece in the cab is the flywheel cover.
there's a good chance actually
Thats a Scott Atwater/McCulloch 😁
Thanks
Once the weather warms back up, I will have to give new to me '96 a thorough look over on the bearings and chains. You provided lots of good information, thanks.
Would it be safe to clean the laminates with wool for rust ?
I would say you're probably okay to do that, as long as you're not separating the layers of course.
I love 💕 the damn thing !!!
I have 30hp Johnson, made in 1956 ! I keep it in my living room !!!
that's awesome! it was a few years ago I made that video, but I still have the motor. I've been considering repainting it and making it look nice, but at the same time I think I'd probably rather it stay original . They're great looking units for sure
Would you happen to recall what the model number of this motor is? Looking to order a new starter for mine.
in this style Ive repaired my old Volvo penta 90 (9HP) the coils from Johnson (price on Ali express 5$ + 3 $ delivery)
I've never tried ordering from Aliexpress, but I could give it a shot sometime.
@@RustRehab Let try it.... good prices fast delivery (to Poland) and many outboard parts.... BR from Warsaw
I need to replace the coils in an old Martin outboard. I looked at them on Ali express about a year ago but can't find the ones at that price any more. they use to sell just the coil part without the laminates. Does someone have a link to these?
It's a two engine. Two stroke engines need carb cleaning all the time, because of gunk build ups. So first give a thorough carb maintenance, and, then give it a proper test in a water drum !
You are thorough, you show respect and you know what you're doing 😉 ! You are...gooood !
thanks! It's been a few years now, but I still have that old motor.
I'm not to old to learn something new...thanks
Most motors low speed top needle about 3/4 to 1 turn and Bottom 1 1/2 about turn out you will know when you go to start it. You need the original pressurized tank to make it run. The pressurized tank is what keeps the motor running and provides the fuel throughout the motor.
Good to know, thanks!
Sorry my message was a bit confusing by how i worded it but i take as you understood what I meant I edited my message.
24:1 fuel mixture.
In between the carb and air box there should be a spark arrestor screen.
That is the original bowl gasket. be careful of that small cork round gasket it is must for it to be there .
Man. nice and don't tighten the crap out of the fuel bowl retainer !
I always shut off my motors with Throttle control never with the choke, using choke is wrong .
Angle open end wrench works much better on the carb nuts .
That crack in the needle is normal.
