Stages of Meditation: Book Club III, Episode 6
In the sixth episode of Book Club III, Sarah Sati reads from chapters six and seven of the text Stages of Meditation. This book, by his holiness the Dalai Lama, that serves as a concise commentary on the text of the same name by Kamalashila. Chapter six deals with the concept of wisdom, and chapter seven discusses the correct prerequisites for calm abiding and special insight meditation. In this session, Sarah recaps the previous session before reading and offers space for practical application through practice, as well as practice homework for between sessions.
This book is an important guide to understanding the gradual path to awakening mind and connecting to compassionate thought. Through the study of this text, practitioners will deepen their capacity for insight and wisdom.
Book Club is an opportunity to look deeply into a spiritual text using a Western perspective. Each session includes a practice opportunity, reading, synopsis of reading, and optional practice homework. It is not necessary to own the book yourself, just show up to the sessions and enjoy listening as you allow your mind and body to integrate what you hear at it's own pace.

Yeah, this is spiritual Atheism mingle with Materialism. But rather the true manifestation has do with embrace both the negative and positive part of the reality we are in, as principle of Polarity stated. So whenever you attract positive you are also at the same time attracting negative because things exists in pairs or in opposite to another. So real manifestation has to do with you embodying your wishes and wants by taking actionable steps toward achieving them.
Consider this = Most men have frequent thoughts and fantasies of sex, love and companionship,, many times every day and night ,,,throughout A Lifetime!! BUT these thoughts do NOT manifest for most! Think about it!! media sells sex and beauty, porn exists and prostitution is,the worlds oldest trade! And this is because "Thoughts do NOT become reality!! " Manifestaming is BS!!
It’s just a coping mechanism. Most people wanna manifest everything but actually being ok with themselves.
Amazing practice! I love it❤! Thank you!
@@axelzapata1084 ah yes! It’s so good. Happy you enjoy it❤️❤️❤️❤️
I do this all the time. Now, it's mostly fun "people watching". I love to sit, observe, listen, feel my surroundings. But the ability comes from trauma & the hypersensitive need to 'read the room' as a kid.
Hyper-vigilence is not an uncommon post trauma quality, it is wonderful to hear you are managing this in, what sounds to be, a lighthearted way with awareness and compassion ❤
Amazing video!
You're doing great work.love from nepal country
This is such a wonderful comment to receive. Love to Nepal ❤❤❤❤
Lost my long term job so I can see how desperation leads people to these ideas.
I’m sorry to hear you lost your job. Not to plug my own activities but honestly whether you watch it with me or not, the book I’m using for this next series of book club that I’m hosting is called Transforming Problems Into Happiness by Lana Zopa Rinpoche and it is a MUST read for anyone feeling the burn of any problem in their life. ❤❤❤❤wishing you a new, better opportunity in place of this last job. 🌈✨🙏🏽
Fear is a big deterrent.
This manifestation movement reminds me of the prosperity gospel in Christian circles. I don't believe it there and I don't believe it here. Thanks for the great video and truth!
People who use manifesting are fools. I think they try to avoid putting in real effort, planning and work by using "Manifestation" as a crutch. People that manifest tend to be frightful of making decisions and fear their decision making skills are not good so they shift it over to "The universe" So they can say "It was meant to be" or not meant to be and just live their life flying by the seat of their pants and never making solid trajectories or goals to work toward because they think "The universe will provide if they just sit and think of it and repeat mantras". Its a self defeating process and most people who buy into it likely have undiagnosed personality disorders.
This is amazing. Thank you for your service.
But when I become aware , the world is more scary and not fitting 😢
This can be a common experience for someone with a trauma history, and even some without. This is one reason it is so important to have a teacher, and not just any teacher, the right teacher, one who knows how to work with the unique needs of their students and especially in a trauma informed way. In my next video, I offer six trauma sensitive considerations for teachers, and while these are not for students specifically, they may offer some insight into what the types of spaces are that can support you adequately. Awareness is inherently destabilizing because of the groundless, ungraspable nature of it. If you find in your practice now, before you have found the right teacher, you feel scared, never hold back from dropping the practice and simply resting with the breath, focusing on an object, opening the eyes, or ending the session ❤❤❤
Wonderful
VERY NICE, SUPER....
I think certain PTB (powers that be) are pushing this BS because it keeps people docile and blaming themselves for their poverty, instead of our utterly corrupt, corporate captured government!! It's also the ultimate perversion of true spirituality, which is about learning to control one's inner state regardless of what's happening in the phenomenal world. The Buddha said the cause of all suffering is desire!! Now we're trying to use spiritual means for material gain!! Plus, it's unfalsifiable. If it doesn't work for you (and it doesn't for most; they get rich by selling you pipe dreams) then you must be doing it wrong. I wanted to believe it. Who wouldn't?? I was into Dr. Joe Dispenza. Then, I did some actual research and learned that Joe Dispenza is a chiropractor who, in his 40 year career, has published one single peer reviewed paper. His net worth is over 15 million!! He didn't manifest that money, he made it from charging thousands of dollars to teach people open secrets, like breathing techniques that have been around for centuries!! Be angry at the government, and the corporations that own it, not yourself!! Well done, it's refreshing to hear a bright young lady (strikingly beautiful doesn't hurt) understand this. Keep speaking your truth and pointing out the BS. Kudos!! Then, #learnMMT If you study MMT, then you'll understand the depth of evil and the lies we've been sold. Federal taxes don't fund Federal spending. Period. The debt is BS. The US government doesn't owe a cent to anyone. The Federal government creates the dollar and never needs dollars from anyone else. Federal taxes are deleted!! The true purpose of Federal taxes is that the coercive obligation to pay taxes and pay them only in dollars (you can't pay your taxes in any other currency or commodity) is what truly drives the value of our unbacked, free floating fiat currency. Nothing is less understood than the modern monetary system. States are different. States don't have the right to create money. So, States are like us, USERS of the currency, whereas the Federal government is the CREATOR. So, State taxes DO fund State spending, but Federal taxes drive the value of the currency (not faith or trust or its status as the Reserve currency or Petrodollar) but do not directly fund anything. But this has been the most successful lie ever sold to the public. Read economics Professor Stephanie Kelton's book, "The Deficit Myth, " or anything by economic Prof Warren Mosler or Professor L. Randall Wray, who just came out with a very readable book titled, "Making Money Work For Us, How MMT Can Save America. " ✌❤🔥👁
Stopped doing that shit. It really f my mental health. Thanks
Nice, however please read slower.... (mindfully)
Thanks for your feedback, Mark. While in this instance I agree the pace is way too fast, I will still offer a friendly reminder, slow is not synonymous with mindful ❤

New sub. Thank you for your service to humanity 🙏🏼📿
Sadly my ex girlfriend is exactly doing this, manifesting material things and neglecting what life is about. Chasing a fake dream."The universe will give if you wish for it, if not then you wished it wrong or it was not meant to be". So that already takes into account, that the person wishing is the problem if he doesn't get what he/she wants. I could laugh the whole day if it wasn't so sad. My ex wished for a boyfriend and there i was. It's not the fact that we matched on a dating app (where she actively had to say YES to me). People that believe in manifestation seem to have unresolved problems and react sometimes irrational or agressive if you point some things out. They can cut you off in an instance if something is not going according to their plan (me).
The good thing about this is that in the end we cannot know how practicing in wrong ways may lead to a deeper understanding of what truly matters. Sending love ❤
🙏 everyone's okay enjoy many blessings to you and yours.
So joyful and sincere! I thoroughly enjoyed the readings and discussions. Sarah is truly gifted.

Thank you for this!🙏🙏🙏please keep doing such videos, they are very helpful for people interested in buddhism, such as myself
TL;DR "When you do nothing about something, it changes on its own." Deeply grateful for Sarah Sati's wisdom. Of course deep engagement with "what is" is far from a "do nothing" practice, it is everything sans the unnecessary and ineffectual actions. Sarah Sati gently directs attention to this dharma truth 🙏
These short form Rocket practices are GREAT! Thank you.
Thank you for reading this (◍•ᴗ•◍)❤
great class, super cues and nice rythum
So glad you enjoyed ❤❤❤🙏🏽 Thank you for leaving a comment!
So sad with the tattoos. It would be nice to see a human do yoga.
I agree.
I love your cueing style and the way you lead the student inward. Very rare quality. 🙏🏻
I am so glad this style works for you, Linda ❤ Thank you so much for the feedback!🙏🏽
Progressive being the key word here. This is not the actual Ashtanga primary series as brought forth from K. Pattabhi Jois. That said in all fairness Sarah does have a powerfully beautiful "progressive modified" Primary series with good cueing and intel.
Thank you for clarifying this, Paul. It is definitely not traditional Ashtanga. This style is also called the Rocket and was developed by Larry Schultz in San Fransisco when he was teaching the Grateful Dead. Larry was a student of Pattabhi but wanted to create a sequence that had more space for creative expression and was slightly more accessible (notice primary is missing all the lotus variations). My personal practice is both traditional and progressive, but I’m trained at my core in Iyengar. I am glad you enjoyed the practice ❤️❤️❤️
@@Sarahomsati I stand educated. Thank You!

So glad you enjoyed the practice, Navjyot ❤️
I try not to be sad that Thay has transformed but it’s difficult. I’m so thankful to have this resource. Thank you.
