aye can u please link me to the film for the camera, checked the manuel and it isnt specific about what hi8 film
@asain._1264 I use the Sony Hi8 tapes, Sony sells them on amazon. Should be a yellow and black package.
It was actually your video that made me bite the bullet and commit to buying the GR3! I don't often see folks leaning into this more dreamy style of photography with the Ricoh, but knowing it's versatile enough to do this AND the high-contrast street style I'm used to seeing definitely pushed me over the line. Also appreciate the bonus tip hidden in this video: I named the setting after your channel so I wouldn't forget where I got it 🤣 shout out to you and the mystery redditor for that. Great vids, great pics, thanks Cole!
So glad this was helpful! it’s quite the versatile little camera haha. Thanks for watching, I hope you enjoy your Ricoh 😃
Hey man are do you have the hdf versin?
@@amanueltesfaye7788 nope, just the regular GRIII
@@colejchase ohh i see.... i'll probably go with the hdf version though. Thanks for the videos keep 'em coming
@@amanueltesfaye7788 sick. Can’t go wrong with the HDF version
hiii i have DCR-TRV130 will it work the same?
i like how in a time where most of us carry cameras in our pockets that essentially have fantastic quality across the board, theres a big market out there for cameras/ aesthetics that look.
So the GRIII does video?
@@Willopo100 it does but it’s not great quality
@@colejchase really struggling to find a good video/photo camera. The GRIII has amazing photos. Just also want videos.
@@Willopo100 in that case, the Fuji X100 series might be better for you. I did take some sample footage with the Ricoh GRIII on this trip. I haven’t edited it, yet, but I am not expecting too much.
Sometimes when I take a photo with the gr iii, the sky in the background looks blown out and overexposed, especially for cloudy days. Do you know how to prevent that?
You’ll notice I had the same issue in some of my photos. It really comes down to your metering mode and your exposure compensation settings. You could try using the spot metering, setting the spot to the sky, and then expose that way.
Highlight weighted metering
Love the GR III vids! 🫶 Keep rockin'
Thank you! Plenty more on the way 😃
@ Let's gooo 🫶
Not perfect, but damn fun!
@@D.Trider absolutely!
hey which npf battery? does it matter? im looking at npf930 right now but theres tones of other ones
@asain._1264 doesn’t matter which one. The number is just the capacity. The higher the number, the longer it’ll last. You’d be fine with an NP-F550 but I got the NP-F970 because I use these batteries for other cameras and lighting and wanted the most charge.
@ thankyou for the quick response, just ordered my trv58🙏🏽
Can’t find this for sale anywhere, only his charger or similar, someone can help me I only find the trv-67 model

what recipe are you using? were those shots straight out of camera or edited? they look amazing!!
@@tomascanelas384 finishing a 10-day trip to Puerto Rico, will post a video with my photos and the recipe I use next week!
Hey man, I love your photos but may i know what camera you used to film yourself for this video?
@@Autob0y I appreciate that! I have been using the Sony ZV-E1 for pretty much every video on this channel. Absolutely love that camera.
@@colejchase Thank you so much! Looking forward to more great content!
Dropping a grand on a GR3 is only something you can understand once you’ve dropped a grand on a GR3 😂 Amazing camera & i use a Haoge extension tube with a UV filter for more protection 👍
@@owenhoward3178 right 😂 I’ve fallen in love with photography because of this camera. I will definitely need to check out the extension tube!
Could you recommend this camera to someone who is compeletely new to photography and wants to buy his first proper camera? :) Greetings from Germany :)
@@tim462 absolutely. I’ve owned several mirrorless cameras and never found the love of photography through them. Having to edit the raw photos, changing lenses, etc. put me off from photography. With the Ricoh, I’ve fallen in love immediately.
@@colejchase Sounds Great, Thank You very much for the response! :)
No view finder + no flash made it hard for me to love the griii. If it had had either one of those I would have kept mine.
@@Kuzumby great point. I’m on a 10 day trip to Puerto Rico and I’ve taken some amazing photos. Without this camera, I don’t think I would’ve pulled out my phone to use. I don’t need a viewfinder but I will definitely be picking up a flash when I get home!
Can I ask if you had to create the recipes yourself or did they come installed?
@@therealbennydong I am using a recipe I found on Reddit. There a several recipes in camera that can be changed or kept!
That is not VHS my friend. It's Hi-8
can you shoot with it at night?
@@oussamamouzdahir6620 after using it for awhile now, I certainly wouldn’t recommend it as a low light camera. I typically use the B&W recipe during after hours! I’m picking up a flash, tho, I haven’t decided which one.
Love this video. ❤ Nice photos!
@@chefdant thank you 💜
Nice, had the first aps-c one years ago, regretted selling it so just picked up the 3...arrives tomorrow!
@@Souzaphotos I’m a little late but how are you enjoying the camera so far?
The dust issue occurs when the lens goes in and out (creates a vacuum). Not sure how much the cap will really prevent. Just blow off the mount when you go to use it.
I've used the cap, I've used cases, I've taped holes, I've gotten dust on my sensor twice in two years. Just gotta learn to open and clean it (takes 15 minutes), and just use/enjoy it for what it is.
@@slightlymedicated good point! I am confident that when I inevitably need to clean the sensor, that I’ll be able to no problem!
@@colejchase It's nerve wracking the first time, but in reality simple. Just gotta take your time.
Wow you r so brave, i think i got someone commented on othwr forum that try it too but fome some screw stil loose, can you make your own videon how u do that?
I have the sony trv 820, really nice
Great Vid! Keep up the good work! Subbed!
Glad you enjoyed it!
pls give some tip here. I found this camera in my attic but the battery dies really quickly. what should I do?
Buy a new NPF battery from Amazon. I use the Power Extra 970’s. There’s plenty of options and they usually come with a charger or have a usb input to charge them.
Nobody buys cameras. Everyone just picks one up.
doesn't hurt as much to say it that way..
Cole great photos
@@ruff1draft I appreciate the kind words!
which recipe do you use?
going to release a video in the next few days with all of that info
Hmm... been thinking about a GR for a little while... might need one ha!
You won't regret it! I contemplated for awhile until I found it at retail and couldn't pass it up.
Bruv your photos are so dreamy, love it 😊
that's the charm of this camera. all of these photos were sooc jpeg's!
Nope. The perfect camera doesn't exist. The moment it does there will be a fundamental laws of nature contradiction and we will all collapse into the next big bang :-) I think the GR's are outstanding cameras with one of the best UI's in the market. I had to pass on my GRIIIx because the AF at night was sub par and I was missing shots. Using Zone focusing at night is a pain when you are at 40mm equiv F2.8. If Ricoh ever makes fast lower light AF, I am all in, it's great.
Great video! Thank you for sharing your experience. I am thinking about getting one next summer (I think it’s one of the best travel/edc camera, if not the best). Now the new fuji xm-5 looks good too, but it has no ibis and it is not as pockatable as ricoh.. but it has better af.. it is dilemma ahead of me 😄 anyway, thank you for video, wish you all good.
I can def. say the XM5 should have AF that is much better than the Ricoh. Also keep in mind you only need IBIS if you are shooting at 1/focal length in FF equiv... if you are dialing down your shutter to 1/40 on a 35mm equivalent lens like the XF23mm F2.0, you don't need IBIS for that shot. Also keep in mind the Ricoh is F2.8, the XM5 can still be small with an F2.0 prime, and you can always put an F1.4. The Ricoh still wins the smallest in that contest though. I would say if you shoot in daylight and fast AF is not critical to you go for the ricoh, the fuji otherwise. If you need video, the Fuji does win that hands down.
Great video Cole! Subbing for to see what you come up with next.
Thanks for watching!
"Sitting at almost $1000..." You mean OVER $1000..
I picked up my Ricoh GRiii for $970 from the official website. The other models and special editions exceed $1,000.
Is this the same camera that Japanese ebay sellers have up for $400-$500?
@@bhillycallbraenger4275 Would love to see one of those listings.. I'd buy one right now lol.
@@bhillycallbraenger4275 Not likely. You're probably seeing the Ricoh "Digital" III. That camera is much older and is only 10MP - not the same camera at all!
No bro, they’re all expensive at this point especially with Dangycam sucking the entire market/culture drive
hate that the market has gotten that bad
What’s the battery name and where can you buy it?
@@celloredtv it’s a NP-F970. The ones I use are the Powerextra brand, got them on Amazon with a charger. Bought mine in ‘21 and they still hold battery great.
