DIY - Slot Car Podium & Characters (3D Printed & Painted)

Been working on this model for a while, and just finished it yesterday. This is a 3D printed podium in scale 1:32 (can be upscaled to 1:24). Complete with drivers and grid girls. Very proud of this. I have designed model buildings before, but it was my first attempt at sculpting people. Used a lot of late nights on experimenting before I got it right, still a lot to learn but love a challenge. ...

    Another great video and thanks for sharing your journey. Instead of baby powder, I use Activator spray when I glue my pieces together. It is really fantastic because it instantly reacts with the glue and you don't have to wait minutes until the glue hardens. Can't wait to see part 3 of the series!

      Hi and thank you for your comment. I use baking powder not baby powder (but I could have pronounced it a bit better in the video😁). It works a bit like the activator spray and makes the glue stick instantly.It also generate a lot of heat so have experienced PLA parts melting together for the perfect connection :) Looking forward to sharing the third part. It gets really fun when I can start adding some paint to the model. Will work on smoothening it out in the next episode. Once again thanks for the feedback, always appreciated :)

    • @HobbyWorld_one

      Would have loved using the gel version, it is so much better for this kind of projects, unfortunatly it's not as easily avaliable where I live. So to answer the question, I used the liquid CA glue combined with baking powder to make it cure instantly. Thanks for you question, really appreciate it :)

      Sorry for the late reply, been a busy week. I actually printed this terminator on a small Ender 3 Pro (235X235) and a CR10S Pro (320X320) so not really any large printers. I have upgraded to larger printers so if I should do the project again I would print some of the parts in a single piece instead of splitting them up.

    Your Terminator build was what got me into printing my first life-size model, a 180cm tall statue of Lara Croft. So needless to say that I really enjoy your projects and I am excited and looking forward to following you again on this journey. You mentioned that you build the square connectors in a 3D software and I can highly recommend "Luban" which automates this process. I used Luban for my Lara Croft project and it was a game changer compared to making the connectors myself in Fusion 360. Luban is specifically designed (among other things) to cut large scale models into individual pieces and you have many options to do connectors. Maybe something you want to consider for your next build. The box looks great, but I don't quite understand why you used the foam. Is the foam getting so solid that it will help carrying the weight of the statue later on? I would most likely just have printed the interior of the box with a 5-10% infill. Again, great to see you working on another exciting project and all the best for the build.

    I am a bit confused as to why you made a 'crate' and then filled it with spray foam. Your finished product looks cool, it just seems like (to me) it would have been more useful as an actual storage container. Thanks for the vid!

    • @HobbyWorld_one
      @HobbyWorld_one Місяць тому

      Hi and thank you for the comment :) The crate is only a small part of the whole model. The main piece is a full sized model of Mad Moxxi, and she is going to stand on the crate. So it's really important that it is as strong as possible as it is going to support a large portion of the main model when everything is finished.

    What size printing area is needed to make it

    • @HobbyWorld_one
      @HobbyWorld_one Місяць тому

      This terminator was printed on a CR10S Pro and two Ender 3 Pro machines. The CR10 had the largest build volume of 300X300X400mm. However, with a larger printer you would be able to print the model in larger single pieces thereby saving yourself from a lot of work assembling everything afterwards

    use a fine sprayer and mist the foam with water - this is what causes the expansion - always dampen surfaces before using sprayfoam

    • @bluebeast440
      @bluebeast440 Місяць тому

      @@HobbyWorld_one I came to say the same. I work with this stuff a lot. I would do 1 layer at a time and spray mist on it... it will cure at least the outer skin in no time :) Then you can spray foam the next layer and do the same. In the end you won't really take much more time, but the majority of it will be cured. This will also help cut down on materials since you can better gauge how much foam is needed.

      Thank you for following the project. This was a pretty good run but I can assure you that I'm going to take a short break for a couple of days now :) Have arranged an race event the 24th this month so we can find our first track winner. Will make a video about it so we can get some race action :) I have been so happy for my 3d printers in regards to my model hobby projects, I can recommend trying it. Once again thanks for you feedback, much appreciated

      Thank you so much :) This isn't my normal work pace :D I have tracks I have tinkered with for years :) But that being said, I am so happy of how this track turned out, even considering doing a similar project next summer (I have a huge ARC PRO Track laying around :)

      Mange tak, ja der er røget en lampe midt i rummet :( Dårlig timing, men der skal nok komme mere op på kanalen med den her bane så den kan få sit moment :D Tak for at have fulgt projektet :)
