This project is purely amateur. Development and modding is not my job, very far from this activities. I am just a gamer who have fun about using the build engine, its ancillary tools (.con, .art, ...), music (metal, gabber, ost...) and practicing guitar and some computer music. So, I work slowly on this project, depending on my free time.
Here is another video about revealing a new level created for my TC. It's the famous "Dunes" map (in a revisited version). You can reach 1200 and more in this one !
I'm just showing what I created here (well, potatoe computer maybe, sometimes there's a huge framerate falldown, I think it is due to the fact I need to correct a few things in some effect CON script). And I die in a silly way by shooting myself with my own rocket... These are things that happen sometimes when you play as noob like me haha !
A few things need some clearing and fix though (effect CON codes, CON loops, scripts, textures, sectors issue,...).

    Not sure if anyone has asked this before but still, are there gonna be secret levels? Like Moon mountains or Sacred yards or anything like that?

      Thank you for asking this question, 'cause yes : there will be a secret level. But this will be a revisited and very shorted version of Dysthymia-6.gro with a secret boss enemy and an attempt to create something opposite to serious sam : creepy and slow-paced level. This one begin in mystic Sirian temple and then jump into D-6.gro universe. I'm working on this level at the moment! So, that's funny you ask it :-)

      Merci beaucoup ! There're part like this one in several map of my TC. Ironically, these atmospheric part are the harder to do 'cause it have to be fun to play and not boring for the player. These are alien "Sirian" mystic temples like you could see in Serious Sam 3 BFE (more or less, revisited). I add, for exemple, a long walking part in those kind of mystic temple, at the middle of my revisited Metropolis map. It lets the player take a breath between those large fights and it lets Serious Sam access to a big power generator, useful for the story of this TC.

      Yep, there were already some little polish since those videos and bug fixed. But I plan to add a few things and correct others. But it will be still build engine and, so, even with build engine, there will be a little charm by making things more "simple". About assets and style, single campaign maps are in Egypt. Survival maps will be anywhere. Monsters and weapons are taken from both encounters (first and second). A few things from Serious sam 2 (the lizard kamikaze,...) and element from Serious sam 3 bfe (those mystic sirian temple textures for exemple) also.

      Thank you as always :-) ❤ ! It needs some optimisation and cleaning in my CON script files. But I think I can be proud of this little WIP mod, even if it has some little issues and framerate falldown. Dunes is 99% done. Suburbs is almost done too. Can' wait to show the next things!

It is the duke4 community that deserves compliments for their kindness and sharing of their knowledge. I'm just a beginner at scripting, by starting learning con-script since one year and a half. I'm just an amateurish mapper that like creating some map on build editor /mapster32 on its spare time, since my youngest age (I started playing around Build Editor 26 or 27 years ago).

    Can't wait to play this! I know this is an on-and-off project and we haven't even got a public release yet, but I assume you'll also do The Second Encounter in the future as well?

      Thank you for your interest ! I think I will release this project when there're will be 5 or 6 maps for the campaign. At the moment, only 3 maps are done. About second encounter : this idea represent a lot of Work ! Considering I work on this project only when I have free time since one year, I don't think so. But, sure, I plan to add kind of survival maps which don't be located in Egypt (Peru for exemple). Thank you for those kind words. :-)

      Thank you for the interest! 😊 Could you explain more your thoughts about the converter? 'cause Serious Sam engine is far more advanced compared to build engine. I create from scratch every maps and I have to make some concessions due to inherent limitations of the Build Engine.

    Boi, super cool, of course it's 'chopper' because lol, the Build Engine's not known for great animations, at least the enemies are still recognisable from afar which is very important Also, for further ideas and inspiration I really hope you'll also try some mods because some fan levels are really cool and some transform the gameplay as well!

      Thank you for the feedback dude. On my side, I'm pretty satisfied with those sprites and their animation. This total conversion is not intended to offer the player magnificent Serious Sam-style effects or flashy graphics. This TC is create just for fun of learning more on Build engine and mixing up my 2 favorites games. Build engine is my top 1 game engine. I think it has a lot of charm and incredible abilities. Yep, I played a lot of mod and usermaps since I discover duke3d, for years! But, since I'm having fun with the creation of this TC, I stay focus on it and don't have time to test anything else. I spent all my rare free time on this TC. That's why to keep things easy to produce. Despite it's graphics, I hope you will enjoy it when I will share it. Keep. In mind it's purely amateurish. :-)

    Wow, this looks impressive and very faithful to the OG. Can't wait to play this. Shouldn't Werebull die in 2 rocket hits though? 1:33 You should probably get rid of those ledges so that the players won't have an easy cheese spot.

      If you played classic Serious Szm TFE, yes two rockets are necessary to kill werebull. But in the classic TSE, it was one rocket only. Well, I don't know which choice to choose.

      @@Nono_the_Mapster That's not true, it's 2 rockets in both TFE and TSE, you are probably confusing it with Sniper Rifle which kills a Werebull in 1 hit.

      Maybe you're right. I can misremember! Or maybe, it is in "tourist" skill that we can kill in one shot the werebull in TSE. I can just change the strength value for werebull very quickly.

      I try but it is not perfect at the moment. Still a few things to correct. Some weird issues are already fixed since this video (sprite work/shadows and sprites visibility and a few delay effects for the "morphing" at the end).

      First, thank you very much for your feedback. Then, yes, the first level "temple of hatshepsut, for example, has just some 1:1 (or almost) remake parts. But, you would noticed on another video that I add and change a lot compared to the original level. I change levels a lot (due to technical issue or just because of I wanted to change some rooms by taste or to keep it easy). And, about this level "sand canyon", it is far from being an 1:1 remake if you look carefully at the video. All levels will include remake parts and new "playgrounds" from scratch. For exemple, I plan to make Metropolis map, but only a few parts (especially the end). Dunes map, as it is the Build Engine, cannot be as beautiful as it rendered in the Serious Engine, so I will change things. Also, I would like to create something like The Great Pyramid, something like the Karnak demo-map and some new survival maps from scratch. Moreover, I add a few Serious Sam Bfe assets and mood, especially for "secret Syrian chambers" with generators / strange SF things. Another thing : at the moment, considering this mod is created on my "not-so(often" free time, all levels will be located in Egypt. Why? Because, it is obvious, I need to keep it easy and not too ambitious as I'm a beginner in TC modding. Also, the new HUD is on the way. I will try to make a new HUD with the "BOINK" font (the original Serious Sam font if I'm not mistaken). Keep in mind these videos show something far from being undone. :-)

      Thank you for the feedback :-). Yes of course, a real pain to create those hundreds slopes sectors in Build/Mapster32... I plan also to create a "Dunes" kind of map. So, much more slopes sectors! But my wife always tells me that patience is one of my qualities. 😂

    OMG this is so freaking awesome! I've been a big fan of both Duke Nukem and Serious Sam franchises. And ever since someone recreated Duke Nukem 3D in Serious Sam 3, I always wondered if someone would recreate Serious Sam in Build engine. What you've done so far is amazing. I know this is just a work in progress but here are my suggestions: 1. UI should show the ammo amount of all weapons, not just the current weapon you're holding, because ammo management is cruicial in Serious Sam in order to deal with different types of enemies and situations. 2. The battles are a bit too long. Even in the final levels of Serious Sam (like the Great Pyramid and the Grand Cathedral), each battle doesn't drag for too long, and there is some calm or cutscenes between each battle to give the player time to breath or to surprise the player, like the cutscene of Ugh Zan between the first arena and the lane to the Great Pyramid or the small breaks (and the secret pumpkin field) between the corridor battles in Grand Cathedral. The pacing in Serious Sam is what makes the game intense but not exhausting. Anyway, I'd like to let you know that what you're doing is greatly appreciated by the fans of both franchises. And you can bet that I'll for sure play this remake first day after it is completed.

      Thank you for the feedback :-) Yep it is far from being done. What I can answer now is : - for the ammo HUD, it can be more detailed by using the specific key. I didn't change the original Dn3d HUD at the moment. - for cutscene, I need to learn how to code some cameras, as it isn't included in the build engine (I plan to code in CON by taking a look at the Dukeplus/DNF2013/AMC tc mods.) These things are on my "plan" file.

    I have one complaint. Can you make it so the screen doesn't go completely red when you get damaged for 5 hp, it feels like you were damaged for 50 hp. Maybe red screen could be removed completely as well.

      Thank you for the feedback. Agree! Indeed, it is on my "things to correct" list (on the *.CON coding side of the project). It is something link to the proj_workslike flag in the projectile code. I have to make it works like a RPG projectile. Whereas it is just a simple energy ball or beheaded rocketman easy projectile. I just need to code some lines to change the colorscreen when projectile hits player. It needs some code line to make things look better. :-)

      Yep, me too, my favorites. My childhood was about playing those 5 games : Duke 3d, Serious sam, Doom, Quake and HL. But dn3d and Serious Sam Tfe/TSE will always be first. I didn't delete the original duke 3d enemy and textures (except weapons and duke vocal lines) for this TC. In that way, modders would be able to mix those two universes if some would like to.

    If i may. i understand that you are doing this for fun. but with my my small observation i noticed that the enemies, atleast the humanoid looking enemies tend to blend in with the environment. from what i remmber about the og game it was colorful ,sort of for a reason. here i kind of get a headace not know where they are running. but its just my small nit pick.

    This is really impressive considering one of the whole points of the original SS was how the engine could handle so many enemies. Now you're doing it but with a much older engine, that's awesome

      Thank you 😊. I think this is possible because build engine run, today, on better system with eduke32 port. If I try this mod on an old 486, it would be unplayable at all. In fact, I didn't change any code from the build engine core, no skills for that! For this TC, it is just a matter of simple enemy coding, minimalistic weapons, use of the eduke32 port and simple good level-design in mapster32.

      Salut ! Merci, j'ai désactivé les commentaires car j'avais un nombre incalculable de con**rds qui commentaient. Je te remercie pour ce retour sympathique. Ça reste extrêmement amateur, n'ayant moi même aucune connaissance en matière de lutherie au moment du projet, elle est très loin d'être parfaite mais je suis surtout fier d'avoir relevé ce challenge personnel. Il y a également du chêne (manche) et de l'acajou (touche et pickgard).

Je dirai d'abord d'àmavoir du bois bien sec. Car le mien ne l'etait pas assez et, en plus d'un rabotage des tranches amateur, le bois a, après collage du corps, bougé un peu, d'où les fentes entre chaque planche que j'ai dû malheureusement combler.

    Impressive work. How you achieved the smooth shadows? Also the whole lightning looks way better than I would expect from the engine.

      Thank you for the feedback. Smooth shadows and flares are just 2d sprites I imported by using Def lines, as duke4 community did with their HRP. I made several kind of shadow sprite that could floor-aligned, reversed, animated directly with CON code or BAFed software,... It seems to work very well after a few tests.
