Home Run Showdown Reggie Jackson vs. Carl Yastrzemski
This episode of Home Run Showdown features Reggie Jackson of the Oakland A's going up against Carl Yastrzemski of the Boston Red Sox at Boston's Fenway Park, circa 1969. Although Jackson hits more home runs in this particular showdown, Yaz shows why he was one of the all-time great hitters by consistently whacking the ball all over the yard, and outlasting Jackson in distance (first to 10,000 feet). Music is "Gathering Crowds," the famous closing theme to "This Week in Baseball," and "Man Alive," a song regularly used on TWIB during the late 1970s.

This edition of Home Run Showdown features two of the dominant sluggers of the National League in the 1960s - Willie McCovey of the Giants and Dick Allen of the Phillies - facing off in Philadelphia's Connie Mack Stadium. It was tremendous fun teeing off on pitch after pitch with Dick Allen, including a couple that went over the Ballantine Beer sign opposite-field in right. This video is a trib...
Home Run Showdown Tony Conigliaro vs. Thurman Munson (original Yankee Stadium)
Переглядів 2444 роки тому
This edition of Home Run Showdown features Thurman Munson of the New York Yankees against Tony Conigliaro of the Boston Red Sox. This is an excellent matchup that goes right down to the last pitch. Munson and Tony C crush many blows that would have been long gone in today's Yankee Stadium, but bounce around in the gap and near the monuments in center field. This is a tribute to two of the top p...

What did the pitcher say when he saw Sadaharu in the batter box ? OH-NO. !
What a great time to be young, those guys (especially Griffey) made baseball cool. Griffey was always a great role model too, no drama, no scandals, no attitude. Now guys get a base hit and hat to do a dance or something in celebration.
This show was on about the time I played little league baseball. Are there many little league teams today.
These old shows should be on MLB Network!!!!!!!
I was 20 years old watching the series.
ron fairly had a huge W S in 65,should have shown joe ferguson throwing out sal bando....dave goltz, really?
Rose destroyed Ray Fosse’s career over a meaningless exhibition game 🤬
Now that was fun. Thank you very much
Dang, I used to watch this show religiously as a kid. I was a huge Cardinals fan, and Ozzie Smith and Willie McGhee were my favorite players.
Just my opinion, but Lasorda was baseball's best ambassador. Rip, Tommy, forever Dodger Blue.
What is the background music at the beginning of this video?
I used to love this show as a kid and I remember well getting up in the morning, watching it, then grabbing my glove and bat and running to the school yard to meet friends and try implementing what I learned on the show.
I listened this game on the radio

I liked the lineup of this one The big hurt crime dog,Griffrey jr
Tough to do this show today. Bench and Lasorda were absolutely perfect, irreplaceable
TWIB was also great with Mel Allen.
Ironically, Tony Perez was one of the National Leagues Premier Home Run Hitters The Reds had Lee May and Johnny Bench and Pete Rose and too. Ironically it was 1966 or 67 when I started following the Cincinnati Reds. My Uncle George Fisher owned the Staten Island Dry Cleaners and had a contract with the Yankees and Mets to Dry Clean their Uniforms. I was born in the Bronx New York but I moved to Cincinnati Ohio when I was five years old and quickly became a Cincinnati, Red, Royals and Bengals too!
163 pitches in a game. After pitching in game 1. That's ridiculous. Sounds insane in 2024 but that was the usual in the 70's.
1982 - 1994 mark holtz and eric nadel together on the radio broadcast of mlb's texas rangers on wbap 820 am here in the dallas fort worth area.
This was a fun team to watch man! Walton won ROY, they won the division, Ryno, Andre, a young Mark Grace! Coached by Zimmer…..this was the team I grew up with!
I was an 11-year-old 5th grader I remember this really well. Great comeback by the Tar Heels against a really good Virginia squad.
1982 - 1994 the voice of the late mark holtz and eric nadel together as the radio broadcast of mlb's texas rangers here in north texas the dallas fort worth area.

This was such a great little show...
This episode was filmed in 1982, 42 years ago. 42 years before that was 1940 when Ted Williams was in his second ML season.
Chet has a super rare wilson a2o00 baseball glove
Wow so back then they just did one round and who ever had the most won, crazy how times have changed
He makes it look so easy.. You know who I’m talking about. Also, great and risky catch by that kid 39:21
how did they find 24 minutes of highlights from this team?
Curt Gowdy was so sad that his beloved Red Sox lost 🤣
Do you have a highlight film for the 1983 Phillies?
I liked those Astro uniforms from the late sixties.
I remember watching this on TV when I was 13 years old. Never forgot the dramatic ending of Pete Rose barrelling over Ray Fosse to score the winning run
Around about the 7:00 minute mark when they showed the clip of a washed up bill Lee lamenting the interview Bench gave from the dugout during the rain delay is when I finally received a definitive confirmation as to why everybody called him spaceman ; I mean you have to be unbelievably delusional to muster the balls to say something that fucking pathetic with a straight face
I bet a lot of people don’t really understand why Johnny bench was so incredulous reflecting on Louie Tiant Jr.’s performance against them , but to put into perspective just how amazing he was , imagine a guy like Nestor “ the molester “ Cortes winning 229 games after 19 seasons in the league . What a legendary story and athlete his father left behind as his legacy
great players. great players.
Richie Allen had tremendous power. No steroods or weights. He was also a great base runner.
the voice of the late mark holtz and eric nadel on the radio for 13 years as the broadcast of mlb's texas rangers from 1982 - 1994.
37 years from now your texas rangers win a world series champion 2023 and also has 3 stadiums in arlington tx in the dallas fort worth area.
How is Dick Allen not in the HOF ?
38 years from now your texas rangers win the world series champion 2023.
your texas rangers has 3 stadiums in arlington tx in the dallas fort worth area.
Too bad MLB is dead in Cleveland now
They averaged 18,000 fans per home game in 1986, in 2024 they average 26,000. Womp womp.
Great memories!!!
Lost jim rice, our biggest bat.
We lost in 75 and 86 but came back to break the curse and added other titles. Dream come true. Lol.
This mlb all star game and some player's dirty like Pete rose did !! He tackled a catcher in order to score by knocking the ball out of his hands ! Pete Rose knows why he never made it into the hall of fame and it wasn't illegal gambling !!!
People didn't realize it, but Williams was also a great fisherman.
So cool to see basically the same team from 87 but a year prior. What a lineup. Crazy how us winning the World Series just blindsided most of us, made me a huge fan for life.
