    Hi! Thanks for sharing this video. I did as you showed, but made a huge mistake and the fin got glued with epoxy resin inside the fin box. Any ideas of how to remove the fin now? Tried pretty much everything so far with little success, from heating to hammering the fin...

      Hi thanks for liking the video. Both brands are built by kinetic in Vietnam so quality is the same, but the FMX have the special paint on the bottom and the possibility to trim the cut outs as the plates can be taken of. Sailing wise the performance is the same for a guy at my level more or less. In the small sizes both brands have great control and are easy to jibe. In medium sizes the av runs a bit more free but is more difficult to jibe. Even though the FMX feels more planted it is super fast and my pb on medium board is done on the FMX. In big sizes I feel the last av I had was more technical to sail than the FMX. Hope you can use the input. I think both brands make really good boards in high quality and the limitations are more the rider then the shapes.

    Kasper, i am really struggling to choose between two fins. I just bought a new board. the exocet s3 (110 liter, and 70cm wide) and I want to use a 6.0 twin cam on it for free racing. should I go with a 35cm carbon fin or with a 37? some times I would like to use my 7.0 free ride sail for light wind. what would you recommend?

    • @surferkaspert4679
      @surferkaspert4679 26 днів тому

      Hi. Not knowing much about the board and you as a surfer I would go for the 37 or bigger for lightwind. The original fin was a g10 in 40cm which delivers the same power as a 38 cm carbon fin. I think it will work with 6,0 as well

    at my local spot, I enjoy 8.7, 7.7, and 6.7 four-cam race sails, but as the wind picks up, the chop gets very large, and the riding gets brutal, with high physical and aerobic effort. The average session speed and top speed say the same, averaging over an hour nonstop at 35 km/h and top speed around 51 km/h. When the forecast looks like 4.5, I go to the spot with my bump and jump board but often end up riding 5.0 or 5.2, resulting in disappointing average speeds of 28 km/h and top of 38 km/h. The much less physical riding allows for longer ride time and can be pleasant. Still, usually, the suboptimal speed for small jump ramps and lacking upwind drive to recover ground from downwind speed runs is a significant loss of the spice I crave. Would using a 7 batten 5.7 no cam freerace on the bump and jump be an option to speed up the board, or will the bump and jump board outline and tri fin cause too much drag and spinout? I'm looking for a quick option to shift gears when I show up with the bump and jump board; tossing a 5.7 on the gear pile may be more manageable than the entire race set as backup. The wave gear is fine, especially with 5 mm mittens, but the race gear is not. Just want to pick up the pace a bit.

    • @surferkaspert4679

      The no cam will be more manageable in 5,7 than the full on race sail. Is it possible to set bump and jump board with just one fin?

    yeah that one guy , back in fuerte won a couple of races with a waist harness years ago and all pwa guys migrated to it. and years after it is still a trend. nothing but a trend. i used seat for years. then people told me waist is better etc. i tried waist for years and these are what happened.. i got tired way quickly, and after 70-80 km session i was fucked up. back pain also. i got slow. my gybes were worse. my balance on the board was worse.. and i went back to good old low hook seat harness. i was consistently a couple of knots faster. i was able to function even after 100 km sessions my balance on the board was better.and my gybes were smoother.. now first of all, you have to wear that waist harness tight.. real tight so you have good connection with the rig. but that does keep you from breathing and restricts the movement of your core. my balance and gybe issues were gone once i got back to seat. obviously it is faster, more comfy , abd on my case despite having big tighs it doesnt restrict my movement on the board , guees why... BECAUSE I DONT FREESTYLE!!!! for only just a couple of steps while gybing and tacking it is simply meaningless to be on a waist harness ... now , surely 99% of pwa racers use waist coz why not right... but just remember , antoine albeau, dunkerbeck dominated the scene with seats in almost all conditions... last couple of years of antoines albeaus reign he was on waist , and those years his results went down .. and then he retired... i dont think people realise the downsides of waist harness on freeride and slalom gear..but they will soon. for choppy conditions i use longer harness lines ... only downside of seat for me, is that you got overpowered later then waist , and once you are you are way more overpowered then waist. but that is usually when wind picks up so you need 2 sizes less of a sail and a board ,somits kinda redundant.. thats my take.

From the spoken part of the video I understood that, you heightend the boom, shortend the lines (from 44 to ???) and chanced to a waist harness. Is that correct? A video with your old and new stance would be helpfull although I remember the video with yor 44"lines and had the feeling that was way too long for a vin set up.
