Great review. Thanks for this upload.
Try : Less talk, more music…. Like that radio station.
waht's the weight on this thing?
Can you gives us an update on your American vintage guitars, like how are they ageing after the last videos? Thank you!
so a wet sanded and buffed will be more durable?
Love this guy … love my 56 AV more than my custom shop 56 .. sounds and plays like a old 56
It was nice to have a lite strat also. But it's all great!
Glad to see this come back.
Oh I just realized Safety Off is Riley Stone's band! (I will never call him just Riley, he will always be RILEY STONE!)
the one channel i seen disscuss about this, all my answers too for e few month ago before im buying a squier, How abot tele's affinity 2019 vs 2020, did you knows too about body thickness and wood body,
Nice👍👍
I've got a 1998 affinity Strat and it's also got a thick body, alder with rosewood fretboard and has 22 frets and nut width is 42. Awesome guitar, I call it my blues monster, moded with alnico 5s and some new tuners pots and decent 5way switch. Last thing to do is the nut at a fret level. . But as it is it's actually very resonant guitar and plays great through a voxac30.
The 22 frets is a nice touch. I don't know what the body is made of on my old 90's japanese squier strat with bridge humbucker, but the neck and fretboard are maple
boy, that contour is an abomination
Definitely agree lol
I don’t want a full size body, my ideal is an S series Ibanez.
I purchased an alder Affinity in 2015 and was disappointed in how thin the body was. The SX I purchased in the same year was alder and had a thick body, its heavy too.
A W E S O M E !! But, Lazarus sounds better.....yours is to Brite!
Just bought one to do a tom Delonge strat build 🤘
I bought a black one of these in late 2019 before they were announced and was pleasantly surprised it was a 2020 version. Body is indeed poplar but quite honestly I can't tell the difference. Body thickness is about 2mm thinner than my MIM 70s Classic Ash Strat - but exactly the same as my 70s Matsumoku Strat copy. Things to be aware of though - the neck is slightly narrower at the nut than other Fender Strats. It appears to closely follow the template that the Japanese makers were using - not that that is a bad thing. Actually the pickup pole pieces are better aligned to the strings than more expensive Strats too so you have to be careful which covers you buy if you want to change colour. Just wish there were more quality pickups available like this.
wish they would have put burstbuckers in this Norm Burst guitar, probuckers are decent but burstbuckers are better sounding thanks epiphone for putting out vintage re issue guitars....... i just got a Lazarus
Awesome Guitar 😎⚡🤘
There’s a 2013 faded sonic blue ‘59 on Reverb right now for $2000. Should I buy it?
I'm no expert by any means, but some 6 years after getting mine I still do think the ones I've played are some of the coolest off-the-wall Fenders around. The only one I see on Reverb now is a '19/'21 Wildwood/American Original partscaster. In the case of that one I might hold out for an unmodified American Vintage, unless you really want the 9.5 AO radius and don't care that the AO necks contain urethane that tends to chunk off instead of shave off like my 2017 AO neck did vs. the way my 2015 American Vintage lacquer has gracefully aged. *My opinion really doesn't mean much though* Thanks for watching, Matt!
@@realjabroni there’s another one on there. Faded Sonic Blue. The guy sent me some pics and the bridge was super rusty and he won’t budge on $2000 + $225 shipping + tax. SMH! Currently trying to negotiate with a sunburst one on Reverb right now. Also a 1965 AV from 2013 at Guitar Center for $1799 that I might buy instead. You have any experience with the 1965 ones?
@@mbrackmann8 thinner fretboard instead of the slabboard and differant pickups
Did you ever get to meet him?
Such a shame these are so hard to find.
It really is.. even when they were new, I had to order mine and I've still never seen one hanging on the wall at a shop. I'd be interested in knowing how many were even made.
Thanks for this kick ass review brother! I've been drooling over the American Vintage '59 since they were introduced! Too bad they only lasted two years! These are by far the most detail accurate of any of the previous the American Vintage line. I hope one day Fender decides to include a true reissue in their line once again.🤘
This guy was my guitar teacher in Indiana from years ago. Benito, hit me up!
Same
Apparently The changes where made in late 2019. I was fkn STOKED as that was the first thing I noticed was the full size body when I unboxed mine. The neck is a little more chunky though. Smooth fret ends, great tuners, only 1 string tree, 500k pots. Serial # CSSL comes back "special run". The only thing I would consider is swapping pickups. But beware, I tried to swap the neck for a 2004 affinity and the screw holes DID NOT line up!!! They are spaced wider on the new one. Got it for a backup strat ,and it is now my main strat haha
I like lightweight thin bodies, a full size body is a negative for me. The only mod impacted is the tremolo. There are plenty of tremolos that fit and I never use the back plate. Guitarist should pay attention in science class, you guys don’t understand shit. Alder isn’t better, Leo Fender chose things because they were cheap not because of tone, he was an engineer so he knows tone wood on a solid body with magnetic pickups doesn’t mean squat.
I just returned a brand new Affinity TELE and it sure as sh*t is THINNER than a real Tele. Hence, I went with the CV 50s Tele butterscotch. 9.1 lbs of like the original PINE. As far as people talking about CV & other Strats or Squiers body woods they have NO CLUE - forget it. My 3 year old CV Strat is Chinese and Alder/Maple - NEW CV Strats aren't Chinese (Indonesian) and are anything from NATO to POPLAR to SOFT MAPLE and PINE depending on the COLOR or NECK. A quick check of the stores will stop the nonsense. Oddly the crappy Affinity Tele was from China so origin means nothing as the Affinity is a waste of $250 anyway, imo. It takes more than $150 to make an Affinity "better" than a CV and it still wouldn't play nearly as well. 🎸
I think you're right when it comes to the rarity and desirability of these guitars. I have a 2013 model in sherwood green that I bought used for $1,100 in 2017. Now when I look at these, I practically never see them below $1,900. This goes for practically all of them in this series, too. Wish I would have bought more when the prices were low like what you did.
Glad you snagged a sherwood, those are gorgeous and really rare! I had a feeling years ago that they’d be sought after and it does seem to be happening. I still believe they are some of the coolest, highest quality off-the-wall Fenders since the original pre-CBS Fullerton days.
just find one ,1400 dollars in china.so many avri 52 ,57,62 there, hard to see an avri 56.i am considering to buy it.
Please tell me 2019 model is good? I want 2020 model surf green color but in my region there is only 2019 model Can I buy 2019 instead of 2020?
I have seen a 2019 serial number with the full body, but I would make totally sure before buying or make sure the return policy covers you.
@@realjabroni Man I just bought the "squire bullet pack" and I got the full size body it is crafted in Indonesia and 2020 model serial no is ICSK20028218.
Just saw this video. Subscribed. I must know what replacement neck you used?
The one in this video is just a stripped maple Squier neck. I perfected the frets and then sanded the coat down pretty close to the wood, but not all the way and then applied 10-12 light coats of StewMac nitro and buffed.
Many said that these have sharp corners, do they?
*at fretboards
They do have sharper edges than the rolled edges, but I don’t notice much when I play. It usually gets smoothed out when I work on the fret ends.
They needed a little sanding on mine - but not very much.
Is the 2nd and 4th position hum cancelling? Is it normal for the bridge pickup to be a bit quieter than the neck when playing clean? Thanks!
sily question: what neck replacements you recommend, love your videos. is there any previous channel you used to use? Cheers!
Greetings! I like to get an actual Fender neck when I can, new or used. Those are becoming more and more expensive though, so our next episode features a 2003 Strat restoration that I’m using a brand new Allparts SMO neck on and I really like it. Stay tuned! I’ve never used a previous channel. Cheers!
@@realjabroni your act is so well put together!!! that's why i thought maybe you had another channel before. Cheers
AV59 Fender stratocasters are one of the best out there, seriously good guitars
thats one gorgeous instrument 😍 delonge style strats are my favorites :D
Do a mod video on squier if you can
Thank you! I have at 2 more Squier videos going for 2021. Pinetop Jackson is working on one with my 1984 Squier Bullet right now, It should be up by March 2021
Loved this video man
Hey Jabroni. I bought a 1994 AVRI 62 a couple months ago. Beautiful guitar with a perfect neck and sounds great. The only thing that disappoints me is the finish. I was really hoping for a super thin Nitro finish that would wear over time. There’s one chip and it shows that it has a thick poly undercoat. Kinda disappointing. I’m debating on selling it for one of these, but they’re so hard to find this days. I’ve also considered replacing the body with an Mjt relic, but I feel like that would make it lose its value. Have you had any more wear on this one?
I’ve had a similar experience. A dealer accidentally sent me a 90s AVRI Tele instead of the 2015 model I ordered. It was very nice but I sent it back because I really wanted the thin nitro of the AV series. I don’t pay much attention to resale value and I love to mod, so I’m sort of biased there. All of my AV guitars are continuing to cloud and wear. I’m thinking of doing a follow up on the ‘56 AV because it is clouding so nicely on the fingerboard that I believe it only has another year or so before it wears all the way through all up and down the board.
@@realjabroni that would be an awesome video. Yeah I’m selling that one for a wildwood thin skin 59. Also, what is the meaning of 714? I see it pop up in your videos a lot
“Accidentally” haha. These dealers know what they’re doing.. my opinion 🤷♂️ 714 is just an address where I used to keep some of my gear. It was a high-crime area so I sprayed the address on just in case any of the gear got up and walked away. Luckily I still have everything 🎉
@@justinchurch7675 do you have your 59 thin skin?
Hey Jabroni, as I've written before: This video convinced me to buy me my own black AVRI56! Great guitar with a lot of vintage vibe - I have a lot of guitars and a lot of strats, but this is clearly my favourite! I have to thank you for that! You're a very sympathic guy, I'd definitively want to jam with (if there wasn't this "little ocean" between you and me)! 😊 Stay tuned - I'm looking forward for your next video! 👍👍👍 Greetings again from a new "fan" from Hamburg, Germany!!! Philip :-) PS: What is that "red colour" on the front? Did you try to re-fin it or did you use it as a shield against something red? Just curious!
Great video man, awesome interview segments, what a cool dude!
My Jabroni! I haven't checked in on you in a while, turns out I missed a couple videos :( I gotta hit that notification bell NOW
Hey Pinetop! Thanks man, gotta get the notifications. That’s how I saw your new Contrabass Balalaika video, that bass is GIGANTIC
I recently picked up a 2012 affinity and so far I've swapped out the pickups and electronics with fender tex mex and bournes and orange drop. It's of course the slightly thinner body but it's not even noticeable unless you're thinking about it and it has a decent middle of the road weight to it. Mine is definitely alder too. Can't really go wrong with an affinity as long as you know what to expect and recognize it's potential..
Yeah, nicely put. Enjoying it?
@@realjabroni oh wow I'm loving it!..i also had a full setup with every possible thing gotten just right, and i do mean everything and it sounds and plays like a much more expensive guitar now.
Excellent! Yup solid setup on ours too and it plays better than anything I remember having until I was like 19-20 years old. Good call on the pickups, I’m deciding which ones to put in this Affinity and leaning either pure vintage or tex mex.
Great video!
@Jabroni: You're such an awesome & nice guy & guitar-fan. Like your content very much AND you even inspired me, to buy me my own AVRI 56 Strat in Black. Keep on rocking! Hope you are doin well and I am looking forward for new videos! A direct sound-comparison between your 56 'n 59 would be great!!! Sorry for my bad english, but I ain't a native speaker... So best wishes from a fellow guitar-play from Hamburg, Germany Philip :-)
Hello Philip! 🙂 Thank you, the ‘56 AV is my personal favorite so I support that idea! I hope you’re doing well also. I would like to show you the comparison, as they definitely have their differences. Your English is better than a good number of my family, and they are all native English-speakers, so no worries 😆 Best wishes, and thanks for tuning in!
Absolutely love this!
Thanks! 🙂
It's definitely not a thin finish. I stripped one there is an unbelievable amount of paint on them.
Depends on the year, this 2015 AV does indeed have a ridiculously thin finish. The 1982-2011/12 AVRI ones had really thick undercoats and my new 2017 American Original did too. Only the sweet spot of 2012-16/17 American Vintage all have vintage-style thin nitro finishes. Do you know what year the one you stripped is?
I didn't know about the ones in 2012. I bought mine in 1999 I think. The first coat was ridiculous. I know why they do it to keep the paint from sinking in the ash. There's two schools some people want their guitar to be pristine forever and some want it to Relic naturally. But I guess it would be hard to sell guitars with thin skin unless you made it a specific option. I think Wildwood guitars has fender make thin skins for them. But I learned something today.
Okay now my memory has been jarred. I remember in 2011 they were supposed to be more accurate. But I didn't know about the thin skin. That would be one Telecaster I wouldn't mind owning.
Yup! They only made them for a few years and I absolutely believe they are the best off-the-wall Strats made since the pre-CBS era. From what I can gather here, sounds like you would love it!
@@guitarocd9984 you don't have an ''American Vintage/Pure Vintage series'' guitar as the one on the video. You have an ''american vintage reissue'' which is made differently, with different pickups, a poly undercoat etc. So yours is not the same
Bitchin show Brother!!! I am sub’d and looking forward to checking out all the vids..Thank You for the entertainment and the product introduction! Think I’ll go get one and set aside my other guitar. Check you later!
Thanks for the love! More episodes in production now and they’re made with you in mind, so don’t be a stranger.
I prefer the feel of Gibsons nitro finish but simultaneously believe poly is superior for many reasons. Currently I have approximately 58 guitars and about 20-ish are nitro finished. They feel less plastic-like over all. The downfall is the nitro stains really quick and easy with simplest of touches so it wears quick! My poly finish guitars can be wiped down to look new every single time where the nitros need actual buffing.
