Chris from Smartirrigation.com shows a details start-to-finish breakdown of how to repair a broken copper pipe by desoldering and removing the broken pipe and then resoldering in a new section of copper pipe. He also goes through how to overcome some common challenges and mistakes faced during copper soldering work. For this example, he is repairing a copper irrigation manifold, but the same techniques will work on any copper soldering repair allowed within your municipal code.

    Hello. I have the X CORE A two-zone control unit. My system has 4 sprinklers with 1 solenoid valve, therefore 1 zone. How can I set two start times with two different irrigation times on the same day? example: h 05.00 13 minutes h 13.45 5 minutes?? thanks

    I thought reducing the arc, means reducing the flow, not how far left it turns till it stops?

    • @SmartIrrigation1

      Thanks for watching! For the video we decided to use the actual terms used to describe the parts of a circle since these heads water in a circle (or part of a circle). So the radius of the circle is the length of the spray, and the arc of the circle is what portion of the circle is being watered (such as 90° arc, 180° arc, etc). This is typically the language used by manufactures as well. But I totally understand the confusion! I sometimes think of arc as distance as well (like the arc on an arrow, but then im not thinking in terms of a circle on a horizontal plane). Sorry for the confusion, we just though if there is going to be confusion one way or another, the technical language would be proper. But we'll try to make that more clear in future videos.

      If the spray has a stong flow coming out of it, It would not be a pressure or flow problem. In that case you probably have a head that is two low (deep) in the ground or it is a 2 inch popup or similar but in either case you would need the head, raised and replaced, or replaced if the head is just a short 2 inch.

When I wanted to decrease the radius by using the orange tool (and tried the flat head screwdriver) it didn’t seem to reduce the radius. When it reaches the maximum of 25% reduction, does the screw stop turning when I turned it to clockwise?

      That is correct I'm an Irrigation service Technician . Working on brand new copper pipe like most youtube videos show is much easier to get great looking results fast but as long as the repair is one that will last for decades that is a good in my opinion. I have never had one fail in 40 years of doing a few per season.

    The ratcheting can be avoided by twisting the full sprinkler head body and removing it of the housing it is in without twisting the whole sprinkler out of the hole its in, ratcheting can break the sprinkler.

    How about the height? I'd like my grass to be a little higher during the hot summer but my nozzles end up hitting the grass blades closest to the head eliminating spray further out. I can pull them up by hand high enough but they don't stay

    • @SmartIrrigation1
      @SmartIrrigation1 Місяць тому

      Sounds like you have a pressure issue. You shouldn't have to pull them up. Rotators may be a possible solution but I wouln't know without flow and nozzle usage calculations. You may want to contact an irrigation professional in your area. Google reviews can help you find a good one. Or DIY study our information website at smartirrigation.com for design and nozzle selection info.

    The contractor that built my house just used the regular black spray bodies for the MP rotators instead of the one with the gray head for 40 PSI. What is the PSI for this head? Will changing to the right body make my stream spray further?

    • @SmartIrrigation1
      @SmartIrrigation1 Місяць тому

      The regular black heads aren't pressure regulated, so the pressure is just what your system happens to have (many many factors affect this). With the black being unregulated, that would mean if your system had 50+ psi, your rotators might actually spray further with the black head rather than the grey head. Changing to a 40PRS head will reduce the distance if your system has pressure over 40 psi, or won't change the pressure if your system already is running at or below 40 psi. Hopefully that helps

    The screen for watering days shows a message "Hold > to start". You did not mention doing that and wondering what that is for?

    • @SmartIrrigation1
      @SmartIrrigation1 Місяць тому

      Hi, the watering days screen shouldn't say the "Hold > to start". This is what would be displayed on the manual watering menu, where you can run zones manually by holding the right arrow down. So if I understand things correctly, something might be wrong with your controller? It would be helpful to see a picture but we can't do that over the comments here. If you find anything out be sure to let us know

    • @SmartIrrigation1

      The old impact heads called Rainbird Maxipaws but they have different issues and some large sports field rotors but they are 5 times the price. A new Rainbird 5000 for the first few months has a slip clutch so they won't need digging. That feature doesn't last however.

    Are these the best solution to water into a boxed vegetable garden? Looking for a fine mist sprayer, not interested in putting a thing in the vegetable box

    • @SmartIrrigation1
      @SmartIrrigation1 Місяць тому

      These are a very good solution for watering a garden box, and is what we would use if you didn't want drip within the box. Other options would be drip micro-sprays (although they spray less far), and spray nozzles are another option but generally we prefer these rotators. Hopefully that helps, and let us know how it goes!

    How do you raise your head ?

    • @SmartIrrigation1
      @SmartIrrigation1 Місяць тому

      Raising heads is typically done by replacing the current nipple that connects the spray body to the lateral irrigation line and putting in a longer nipple, but that all depends a bit on how the system is set up. if you would like us to do a video on that let us know in the comments!

    • @SmartIrrigation1
      @SmartIrrigation1 Місяць тому

      Some heads are only 360 degree heads, designed to only spray in a full circle. However, if you have an adjustable PGP, you should be able to use the tool and turn it counter clockwise in the adjustment slot to reduce the arc of the circle that it waters. Hope this helps!
