Drum Pad Tier List + Rants (GONE WRONG)

Xymox sucks, Drumslinger sucks (possibly not?), why are pad companies so terrible at doing their job. Hope you enjoyed this fun little video about my (correct) opinions on the ranking of marching snare pads. Yes, I know I completely forgot any Beetle Percussion pads, and yes, there's probably a lot missing. I tried to keep the list to pads I have played on or am somewhat familiar with. Snare Ma...

I can't tell if I was dirty or if my drum just doesn't mesh well into the video at some of these points. Theirs are tuned much lower and wetter than mine and it sounds funny when their snares are heard for longer than mine. P.S. this was harder than I thought it would be. So, with ram pad, the smaller pads have to be curved to feel like a drum with the nylon heads, said by the owner. But the bigger 12 inch one does not have that curve on it, and it also comes with a carrier mount. I'll have to find the video again to link it.

Drumslinger pads had supply issues because the ONE GUY who was making them lost a relative, and then got diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. There was no scam involved. As of 2024, he is making pads again, has filled nearly all the backorders and is now delivering new pads with a roughly 6-8 week turnaround. Remember, it’s ONE GUY making these pads one at a time. So give him some grace and a little respect for what he had to climb out of to get back to it.
Is it just me or does the dude in the middle have is drumm super low?
Xymox has taken a lot of money from customers. Waiting four years for my pad
what pad is it
ram pad is goated
That’s today’s snares compared to the 80’s big difference in sound. I think today snares are too tight almost sounding like a gun shot but, to each is own.😢😂
I prefer the clarity of the modern marching snare. I do think the modern tuning is also nearly impossible to replicate through microphones and sounds significantly fuller in person.
my first pad was the hq real feel oh my God is it still one of the best ive ever had. started drumming in 2004 and the only other pads that have come close is the offworld invader v3 and the original vic firth slimpad. im hoping the new slim pad is back to the og but hail to the king hq real feel
I've had an Invader v3 for awhile. I actually think it is the best pad I've ever owned and really wish they existed when I was in high school. However, the older I get the more I stray away from high tension. I find myself placing rags on the pad to lower the volume and tension quite often. I prefer that feel much more and am probably going to look into the quieter rubbery pads such as the Vater or Vic Firth Stock Pad.
Vater OP
I just broke a falams II head 😭

I absolutely love my Prologix vortex tenor pad, it was great for preparing for past auditions best pad I've ever owned. It's also great for writing to make sure everything feels right. I want to try the tenor Ram Pad but if I'm gonna shell out that kind of cash I might as well have just played on my drums.
happy 5 year anniversary of you getting scammed
Where is the off world label on the playing surface?
I believe this pad originally had a laminate that I removed however the label is removable unless that’s been changed recently.
Hanflag green labels for a lot of companies. I own a Hanflag pad but got a RCP laminate, it has a ton of rebound but feels more realistic with a laminate. I would only recommend a Hanflag(Hun) for private use, as it is loud & resembles a real snare too much to practice & warm up
I know I'm three years late to the party, but I just had to comment. I got my bachelor's degree in music education as a percussionist, and I went on to be a drum tech at a high school. I've always done snare tuning by feel because I could never articulate in words what I liked, nor could I find an informative (enough) video online. This video is, without a doubt, the best tutorial for tuning a marching snare. Good job!
Fire!
My friend got an rcp active snare pad and it feels really nice
How do you get that nasty ring out of it towards the edge of the head? I always struggle with that. I think it comes from the bottom head not being in tune with itself, but no matter how hard I try, it still does it.
That’s the byproduct of the air moving inside the drum. If you’re tuning a full line, that ring isn’t audible to the audience. If you’re tuning your own drum, taping some paper towel squares to the bottom head should help dampen it.
I think i might have a drumslinger pad When i bought my bellset i got a pair of mallets, sticks, and a drum pad as well and it has an actual head and looks very similar to the picture
DrumSlinger creates custom pads by order. You might have a similar pad from a different brand.
RCP pads are actually really good in my opinion, i would give them s or high a tier
Update on Xymox, they got their shit together this year and I got mine in around 2 months. And my friend got his tenor pad in around 3 months. They still don't ship within the listed time but it is much better than they have been.
A few pads here and there doesn’t make up for the thousands of orders that were never shipped.
Qual pele inferior o senhor recomenda ?
I use the Fallams II
I think my siblings are gonna slit my throat with the doorknob one. Honey wtf r u doing. Whats all that squeaking? Nothing mum, im just practicing my traditional grip. Sure doesnt sound like traditional grip to me
What step did you not tell us to make it sound so crisp
Promise I didn’t miss anything. The quality of the drum, the heads, and the mic all greatly affect the sound of the drum too.
Drumeo P4?
I don’t know many people that have used this and don’t believe it’s made for marching drums.
@@elymarchingWhat would you rate P4 as? B? C?
Where did you get the thumbnail pic? It looks awesome
I googled “drum corps snare line”
@@elymarching thanks!
I've actually never had issues with xymox. I know everyone does. Ive bought 2 quad pads, a tenor kick, a hybrid snare, and a table pad from them. My original 2 quad pads took about 8 months, but i knew that going into it. Everything else i received within 1 month of purchase
Maybe you should play the lottery
IMO the prologix green should be ranked above evans rf. It feels way better than the evans rf. At first I thought that green logix was an ordinary feeling pad because that's what they say in their website. But man when I played on it during the drumline workshop event here in the Philippines. I was surprised. It feels fantastic, and quiet❤
The black innovative pad is the same exact pad as the offworld outlander, innovative percussion pays offworld for rights to the pad so they can slap their logo on in, if you have both side by side you can see the have the same serial number
Good to know
My dad managed to find the yellow real feel at like a savers for $2 and it feels great
Great job!
I ordered a xymox pad my freshman year of highschool… I’m a sophomore in college and still haven’t received it 🥲
The pain is real
Cadets snares tuned. ua-cam.com/users/shorts7hf02dloFk8?feature=share
I cut the black rubber side off my vic firth double sided pad.wasnt easy but it helped the feel and tone of it alot
Does the type of throw and quality of the snare guts affect the sound. Also is there a preference for type of bottom head
For sure. I’ve found that older drums that are worn down have a hard time sounding as crisp. I use Fallams II for the bottom.
Nice control bro
Yup never got my drumslinger
I have the same issue where my left shoulder droops down lmao. Should be fixed with a carrier tho
'Twas a long time ago
Ohhh so that’s why our drum tech was so pissed when my friend ran the bottom head of his snare into my bass drum
xymox is trash quality. Offworld invader is the best pad
why the suede max? jw
I wanted something a bit softer on the hands at the time, though I would use the Black Max nowadays.
reflexx?
Not really meant for marching percussion
Can you make it sound good with the stock bottom head? I’ve seen people use the stock bottom head before and it sounds awesome
It could work for a personal drum, but the Kevlar bottom head helps a ton for projection.
😢😢😢😢😢
SMH..😔😔😔
Amazing video! This is definitely the best snare drum tutorial on youtube Also what top head do you prefer?
Reno Black Max is always my top choice for lines, I went for a Remo Suede Max on my personal drum since it feels a bit softer.
it sucks that xymox pads feel great. However, there's no point in buying something that is good quality if you'll never get it.
I wouldn’t say they’re good quality. They feel fine, but they have a history of wearing quickly, especially the rims.
@Ely Marching My xymox pad has been pretty good. I've had it for a year or so, however I can't say anything about buying it because my brother gave it to me. I almost did buy my own xymox pad once, thank god my friend at the time saved me from buying it lol
good vid solid beats
Drumslinger. Bill Olsen provides great customer service and stands behind his products. I own two- the 13 inch Corps Pad and the 12 inch Marcher Pad. Both were delivered in only three weeks. The pads are a work of art.
I wish my experience with Drumslinger was good, though it was about 4 years ago. I can agree with the rest though!
@@DennisJohnsonDrummer Unfortunate that my experience was so much different, though it has been a few years. Maybe one of these days I will give 'em another shot.
