(1) When doing a TUNE UP: Most V-8' are TIMED AT #1 CYLINDER, But I-H had to be different, Because all I-H V-8' You TIME IT ON #8 CYLINDER, (2) Also I-H was notorious for having "SODIUM FILLED VALVES", (3) The smallest V-8 I've ever seen was the I-H 266 c.i V-8 if my memory serves me correct, (4) In case you cant find an I-H V-8 ENGINE, Go to a SALVAGE YARD and find you a JEEP V-8, it is a direct bolt in but with only one difference: "THE CARBERATER DESIGN" I-H used a HOLLEY, JEEP used a CARTER DESIGN.

Yes, please do some more Cushman videos. Might want to get a "Mustie lift" if you ever seen him you'll know what I mean (youtuber Mustie1). Your body will thank you. Take it from me, 60+ years of beating on your body has an unwanted accumlative effect. Cool scooter, would be interesting to see further evolution of this unit.

In the early 50s, Sears Roebuck also sold a small car - called the Allstate I believed. It was just a "Henry J" (Kaiser) with Sears' Allstate badge on it. As I remember, the Henry J never really caught on, and neither did the Allstate. As I remember, the Crosley and the Nash Metro were a lot more common and there weren't thar many of those either. After the War, most folks would eagerly await the newest and "chromiest" of the new models each year. Big & fast with white sidewalls and a radio sold well. Gasoline was about 20 - 30 cents a gallon in the Chicago suburbs where I lived, and station attendants filled the tank, checked the oil, checked the radiator, washed the windshield, and gave a set of free cocktail glasses or whatever, and some S&H Green Stamp - all for about $ 4 worth of gas.

I had a cushman allstate about 1960 and had the most fun on it as a kid, maybe 12 or so, wish I could find another one without paying $5000 for one. Don't complain about working on it, I would give anything to have one and I'm 75.

Cushman was a product of Outboard Marine Corporation

I have rewired one of these 1960 Thunderbirds from bumper to bumper and done a lot of other restoration work on it. Its a rare factory 3 speed manual car (only 2% of production were manual transmission) Unless equipped with the optional 430 ci Lincoln engine, which was available in1959/60 (base engine is 352) they were not great from a performance standpoint and handled like a garbage scow if suspension upgrades are not performed. In 1963 130-140 Thunderbirds were factory equipped with a 390 with 3 two barrel Holley carburetors These were "M" code cars, and Ive had one come in for carburetor rebuilds and tuning. 1966 and 1967 models were available with an optional 428 ci engine and in 1968 the 429 became the standard (and only) engine available, and they finally would get out of their own way, having better performance than any previous Thunderbird with the possible exception of the very rare factory supercharged 1957 models which allegedly produced 340 HP in a much lighter vehicle

I have a 1980 Scout II you may be familiar with, my dad was the original owner, I have spent hundreds of hours in the back seat on family road trips, took my driving test in it, drove it in high school, and driving it almost every day now. I told you about my 1969 Camaro SS, its a numbers matching L35 396 BBC, 4 speed close ratio, 3.08 rear end cruiser. My dad was the original owner, he got it when he was 19 years old after his little brother wrecked his TR-3. We have taken many family vacations and easily a couple hundred hours of road trips in my wife's Honda Pilot but as far as I can tell the kids have zero attachment to that, so not sure what made these old cars so special. My son loves the Scout and Camaro but is not interested in learning how to work on them, so who knows what the future may hold for them.

My cousin had one of those when we were growing up in the 1960s. My dad said it looked like the box it came in. The other thing was when you slowed down the light would get dim because it ran off the mag. Dad said it looked like a hot nail! Great memories.
