How I Organize My Infusion Supplies #PICCLine
Hello GutSquad! I figured I'd give you all a quick inside look at my infusion supplies setup. I've played around with it a lot over the years but this is how I organize my supplies currently. Just a quick note that I didn't mention in the video...I get hydration therapy because I have "dumping syndrome," wherein my ostomy outputs way too much. The infusions help to replenish my fluids and keep me healthy(ish). If any of you have ports, PICCs, Hickmans, etc., please let me know how you like to organize your supplies or if you have suggestions for others out there. I always LOVE reading your comments! Sending you all my love...more videos coming soon. 😉

Also, this is my first foray into “beyond the bag” content-videos that are more about my life than my life with an ostomy. Please let me know what ...

I also did a wear test with the "duped" tegaderm rings and feel confident recommending th...

Things My Stoma Nurse Never Told Me

Hey GutSquad! Today’s video is full of answers I’ve found to those pesky questions for which my stoma nurse didn’t have an answer. I’ve had a few stoma nurses and they’ve all be amazing, but experience is the best teacher and learning how to cope with specific ostomy issues from ostomates themselves is a great way to go. Decoding Stoma Shapes
Переглядів 10 тис.4 роки тому
Hello GutSquad! Coming at you with an informative video about the various shapes of stomas, what they mean, and some of their causes. As I mention (ad nauseum) in this video, please consult your surgeon, ostomy nurse, and/or GI if you experience any of the problems I mentioned. They can become very serious if left untreated. Stomas naturally fluctuate in shape/size as you heal after your stoma ...

Dealing with Disappointment after a Doctor's Visit
Yes I know as I had a operation on my prostate several years ago and before that I had to have a catheter in me so that I could pee because it got to the point that I couldn’t pee at all until I had my operation and when I had it I ended up wetting my self and having to wear diapers 24/7 as a side effect and I’m still wearing diapers now and wetting myself ok Thanks
Thank u I really learn a lot for my mother she will do the operation very soon
VERY HELPFUL!!!
Thank you, you are amazing.

I have a Illeostomy and I’m so happy to see someone that uses the same products as me. I enjoyed you video and I’m gonna go buy some the products you got from CVS. I’m a follower now🙏🏽🤎
Have you every used contex bags? The two piece.
I’m allergic to tegaderm. I’ll be stuffed if I ever have to get an ostomy
to reduce if not stop drainage, I change in the mornings after an irrigation and bath!
to empty a full or partially full bag, I get on my knees in front of the John. It definitely when you can reduce the amount of splash back, on the walls.
This one piece SYSTEM is awful for an ileostomy
This is the worst pouch system ever ..
Your video is so educative. You got a subscriber. I'm so glad I found your video so I can share it with my patients. :) :)
Watching this video in 24 brought back the memories. I didn't have a stoma during covid but severe crohns. I remember that as a coal miner my job was protected but my company did scale back manpower and not being very high in seniority i was sent home for a couple of months. I just remember wanting to go back to work So bad
Hi a little tip i use kitchen roll to dry my skin after using wet wipes non fragrance, works for me
I change my bag first thing in the morning . Marshmallow technique is glucose and not good for diabetics, like me
I have to change the whole set because the wafer leaks. And bags are so expensice in the Philippines. Any reco?
Thank you so much for this information. New to this and very overwhelmed and emotional
I am a nurse studying ostomy care, and I am loving your videos!! Especially the one about things you wish your nurse told you! I will be recommending your channel to my patients!
I found baby oil works but can mess up clothes.

I’m going through that now. You’re not the only one. I’m scared to eat because something might happen. I can feel the anxiety just typing this.
Fr I think when I eat that's it's gonna give me a heart attack, stroke or some other serious disease I'm only 25 I used to eat now it's stressful when It's time to eat ill get pains sometimes or anxiety towards if it's not perfect or healthy it's bad gotta push myself and not fear food 🤦♂️
@@CurlyLowk98 I would say, take it a day at a time. Exercise daily, fast as you can, eat fruit, and juice fruit. See if that helps
I’ll try the marshmallow thing. Thanks
Cecily, gut squad leader, how are you? Not heard from you in a while.
I'll tell you for a woman you certainly do have balls. Emptying that bag in front of everyone takes guts. You did a good job with this video. I had an ileostomy for 4 months and it was the most miserable time of my life I had to live with that parasite stuck on me and I got to watch it fill up with my own stool. The thing have you ever stopped it was always running. It was normal for me to empty the pouch 12 times a day. I would kneel in front of the toilet and hang the bag over and empty it and that smell would get me right in the face. I have smelled burning flesh decaying bodies in the smell of that output is worse. Because of that I would never go to anybody's house. Several times it sprung a leak. One night in bed I rolled over and put my whole weight on it the seal burst and it was liquid stool all over me all over the sheets everywhere. One time I was having intercourse and it came loose it got stole all over my partner and me. I'm sitting in a restaurant and I looked down and I see this wet spot getting bigger it was leaking at the seal by the time I got home I had liquid stool all down my legs and everything else below the waist. I hated that thing
I have found stoma nurses to be pretty useless
Who says you aren't a doctor? You're more informed than most physicians. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom and knowledge with us! God bless!!! ❤
Cecily, you have an awesome spirit! You are quite inspirational and motivated. Thanks for blessing us with your beautiful spirit and smile! ❤
I have gastroparesis as well. But my large intestines was infected.
Thank you so much for this information it has been the best I have found I am just getting an ostomy in a couple of weeks and have had a hard time finding info for living with this thing Love the energy and very helpful info Thanks Sherry
I get my ostomy in two weeks... i am terrified
Uk. The box of bags have blue stickers on bottom to put on filter when swimming. Use them all the time as soon as you put one on as wind will blow them bad boys up like a balloon. When enough in let air out by opening Velcro seal . Then close again. No more pancake
Thank you, you are a blessing. I’m one month in on my new stoma and the nurse was very rushed and I saw her twice the whole week I was in the hospital. You have no idea how much I appreciate this video.❤
I know you no longer post. A lot of ostomates stopped. i guess theres only so many times you can repeat yourself. Nonetheless, thank you. For opening up and putting this very tough process on camera for all of us to kearn and grow from. Your awesome
My stoma journey is a complicated one as well. I lived through many years of trying to find out what is wrong with me and why my health is declining and deteriorating so quickly, many tests and scans have been done over the years and no one can figure out what is wrong. My pain started very early on and my symptoms started getting worse and worse. Long story short, in July 2022 I finally got diagnosed with severe stage 4 endometriosis and adenomyosis along with deep infiltrating endometriosis in pelvis, bladder, small intestines, and the entire sigmoid colon and rectum 😢 I was devastated yet relieved because finally there is proof that it wasn’t all in my head and that I wasn’t over exaggerating my pain 😢 I sat down with the doctor who gave me the diagnosis and he explained my condition to me. I had already done my research and I know that in severe cases like mine it’s better to do a complete hysterectomy and oophorectomy to ease the symptoms along with a resection of the colon to remove the damaged part. It’s not a cure for sure but at least it would prevent further damage and grant me somewhat better daily life. I asked him to perform the surgery but he refused because “I’m too young for this kind of loss” 😢 at the time I was 36 and unmarried with no plans of ever getting married or having children. I went to another doctor and another and another and another before I could find one who understands my pain and had done a lot of research on endometriosis and he agreed to do the surgery. First step was to do a laparoscopic exploration of the abdomen to assess how far my condition has gone and to no one’s surprise there was so much damage and adhesions that the surgeon couldn’t even see anything before he started cutting and making way for the laparoscope to go down and see everything. I was in surgery for 5 hours before he could reach in and clean as much endo tissue as he could. The recovery was tough and the pain wouldn’t go away even with strong painkillers 😢 Upon the assessment of the laparoscopic surgery and pathology results, the decision was made to go ahead with the surgery but after a year had passed to give my already exhausted body time to recover and heal. Now, endometriosis was not the only illness I had 😢 I had Gastroparesis and infected diverticulitis in my colon which made life really really really difficult. I went through with the surgery in mid September 2023 and boy was it a roller coaster 😂 I’ll spare you the gross details and jump to the not so happy ending where I ended up with a subtotal hysterectomy and a non functional sigmoid colostomy that formed a massive hernia less than a month after the surgery 😢 I lived with it for 9 agonizing months before I could undergo surgery again. The hunt for a good doctor ensued one more time and finally I found a good one who listened to me and actually supported me through my pain. On Tuesday July 9th 2024 I had my “clean up” surgery where we did a total Colectomy! We took out the entirety of my colon and created an ileostomy. We took out my ovaries and cervical stump. We cleaned up as much of the endo tissue as possible and installed a surgical mesh to hold everything in place. I had some major postoperative complications and ended up in the ICU for 5 days, I’ll spare you the gross details 😂 after I got better I spent 5 more days in the hospital and got discharged last week. So far, I had 2 follow ups with my doctor and 3 ER visits to change the dressing on my wounds. I tried to do it at home but it wasn’t enough to get it clean. My ileostomy is working well however I feel like I’m getting weaker. My doctor suggested I take iv fluids to help me get some energy. I started those on Wednesday evening but I still don’t feel improvement. Hopefully it’ll get better soon though 🙏
Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge of this topic ❤ I’m thankful I found this video 🙏
How do rinse the pouch with the bidet? Seems like there would be some positional issues.
Wish I knew about Marshmallows. My Tips would be to avoid the Joke foods that are hard to digest, like Sweet Corn, Peanuts, etc. You’ll be emptying Corn or nuts for multiple bag changes through up to a day or more depending how much of said food you ate. I live near world-famous sweet corn so sometimes it was worth it. 2. Make sure if you are getting an Ilieostomy, they don't put it anywhere near the belly button if you are an innie, it makes sealing a wafer to your skin that much harder. Get samples from both the major brands as one type you might like better. My belly Button is a deep innie and the blowouts came fast and furious after my Illieostomy, so much so that I lived on the couch for the two years I had mine. I just got discharged today (had my reversal surgery on the 10th) my Oxygen Saturation dropped immediately after the Surgery and I spent the last 10 days in the ICU first on high-flow oxygen, C-Pap, and finally being Intubated. I eventually had a Bronchial Lavage to clear out everything I couldn't cough up on my own, plus on high doses of antibiotics so it wouldn't turn into full-fledged Pneumonia. After that my Oxygen Saturation almost immediately became normal again. I could of been moved out of the ICU into a more normal Surgical Ward, but our Hospital is over capacity and we need another two Hospitals built truthfully. Socialized Medicine isn’t all its cracked up to be, especially living in a really popular retirement city. 1 Hospital to serve 150,000-200,000 residents. 125,000 in the City proper and the rest from surrounding communities.
Brand new 2nd day out or hospital, thanks for all good tips!
I'm taking care of my mom. She has a colostoma and pancaking is a problem we have to deal with. By now. Today I learnd that the small filter on the pouch can be the reason because it can cause a vacuum. I ran down the stairs to my mom and put a sticker on the filter. Well, half an hour later, when I was checking the pouch, the stool slipped on it's right place 😅. I really hope this was the reason and I found the solution 🙈
Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm considering an ostomy due to paralysis. Take care! ❤
You are so brave and just so beautiful and upbeat it’s really thoughtful and thought provoking- what most may take for granted and still not have such a positive attitude. Girl you have grit and a great personality!! Kudos to you beautiful soul, thank you 🙏🏼
Thank you very much thank you for your time and patience
Diaper skirts are great at night!
I wouldn’t trust putting a tic-tac-toe in my ileostomy bag if it word itself up near stoma could get stuck
It would dissolve thank goodness
For me, M9 has been a lifesaver. It is the ONLY product I've found that makes the smell tolerable.
Something else that helps me with breaking out is using plain yogurt. I get yeast around CJ when on antibiotics. My aunt told me put yogurt on for few minutes, wipe off and go. Works better than the pills
Yes. the toilet paper in the toilet first works well. The other thing is something a nurse told me about. When you are changing your bag, roll up a piece of toilet paper or paper towel and put it in the stoma opening. Nothing comes out. At least that works for me. Thank you to this lovely lady for sharing. So much help I have found on sites like this. They are a blessing.
The tiniest tampon is what the ostomy nurses taught me. The string sticks out to put through the ring for easy removal
@@ladybug4u165What is the tiniest tampon you get. All I can find is normal size. Can’t even find junior ones.
Cecily you need to go carnivore eat meat .
You should try the carnivore diet
