This is my covid patio. Wife and I did all the work except the ground grading and tamping under the stone tiles. 36x36 ft not including the grey paver border. I built the table in the back from stone blocks and 12ft treated yellow pine planks.

Pulse Jet engine from a V1 Flying Bomb fired up on Feb 6 2021 at the Military Aviation Museum near Virginia Beach. The sound is very low because it blew my mic out while recording.

One of the last flying JU-52's powering up and flying. Aug 22, 2020.
my mum lived in east london in the war ,she was 300 yards from one v1 bomb, took out 2 houses opposite homesdale rd,she heard these fly over and around in ww2 as a young girl.
I would believe the reason for so much flame is that it is not using the same fuel.
I am amazed at the this WW2-era technology, the NAZI's launched it from Europe and it actually landed in England; remember back then they had no GPS. And rocket powered V2 was even more impressive.
These guys will always say they're not sympathetic to Nazis but they put thousands of hours and thousands of dollars into keeping ancient Nazi weapons alive. But they're not Nazis. They're absolutely OBSESSED with Nazi weapons, not Allied weapons, the bad guy's weapons. But they're not Nazis.
I thought forward motion was necessary to maintain the engine running..?
Ironically, the V1 and V2 weapons were a waste of German resources. For every (relatively useless) v2, they could have built 15 aircraft. Or developed a heavy bomber. They were vanity projects promoted by Hitler. SOE gave up trying to assassinate him because they realised he was sabotaging his own war, by diverting resources away from building more conventional stuff, like planes and tanks.
Say what you want about the Germans, but their innovation, development, and manufacturing during WWII was off the chain.
Nice work 😊
At first i worried who chopped up a giraffe
Very COoL. This would be stellar to have at Yosemite to keep bears away and introduce some warmth around the campsite. Hauling it around would be a drag however (no pun intended).
Bout like drones now.
Someone needs to put this sound on a loop for a few hours as an ambience video
Operation Crossbow!
Ukraine should build them. They would be better than the Shahed, the russians use. And i think they would be cheaper than all the other stuff, too. Let's get the russians some sounds they won't forget.
My parents lived through the war. They said the V1 doodlebug was one of the most terrifying things they experienced. It was when the engine stopped followed by silence, then a massive blast that made them so terrifying they said.
Hearing this sound wasn't terrifying, when it stopped thats when panic would set in
Thanks for a wanderful experience to see and hear this engine!!!
I was a 16 year old American living in Bedford UK in the spring of 1966 when our homeroom teacher was talking about the V-1 buzz bomb--- if you heard it coming and the sound stopped over you not to worry as it would glide past you, but if the sound stopped before it got to you duck quick--- it was only 21 years after the end of WW2 and I heard lots of stories about nazi bombers flying over head and dropping bombs, US Americans do not know what it is like to have bombers dropping bombs on you I learned a lot the year I lived there
Nothing matches the sound of an R2800 coming to life.
I saw one fly over my house today
Someone should put two of these on an old twin engine Cessna
No danger of sticking your head in the intake
To bad they didn't run this engine at anything more than a fart power level.
That sound is incredible.
Wow
It works better when it's flying. It need a constant air pressure on the air inlet on the front side. You don't have that now. That's why you can't have any, or very little thrust. And that's why these aerial vehicles couldn't take off by themselves, but had to be catapulted into the air.
Oh those Germans.😊
the sound of ww2 in london
My late mum and dad who lived in London throughout the war as children referred to the V1 as the buzz bomb or doddle bug. What a generation! RIP.
The sound wasn’t the scary part, it was when it stopped.
That’s a lot bigger than I thought it was. Scary. Once again I take off my hat to those who survived the blitz
The first step to landing on the moon
Whoah, the exhaust looks trippy
Now I know whay called the V-1 "Doodlebug" in England...🤫
My ass: Eat my dick My dick: Eat my ass
My mother saw one V1 fly over her parents house headed north. About two minutes later the sound stopped, it landed in a farmer’s field. My maternal grandfather was at facility, one Sunday afternoon, that was preparing for postwar production. A V2 hit the facility about two hundred feet away, he was shaken up; regretfully all the cars and drivers were destroyed and gone in a flash.
I'm honestly shocked at how well this seems to work. When the technical principal behind it was explained to me it seemed so crude and also downright... unreasonable. I mean like Science-Fiction unreasonable like flying cars and casual teleportation, which would have huge practical implications. But this... seems to just work. Also i now understand why the sound that this engine makes was described as so unique and unnerving: No wonder it blew out your mic, god dayum!
I've heard/felt 500/1000 lb bombs dropped. It scrambles you.
There's a British war movie "Operation Crossbow" in which V1s have a prominent role. I always thought the sound of the pulse engine and the flames from the exhaust where more or less fiction by the film makers due to fact that in the production year of 1965 there were way lesser information on such topics as today. For instance just b/w footage about the V! without sound. But seeing this video the film makers were pretty close to the actual thing.
My Granddad was convalescing at a military hospital in Kent right on the V1 flight path to London, they evacuated everyone except them! the Nurses used to wheel them out in the fresh air during the day and they would watch the V1's fly over! At night the engines would keep them awake, i would like to see them do a modern risk assessment on that! Different times, many people just accepted the risk, a very tough generation, my granddad lost a lung in the war but lived until he was 87 and was active right up to then!
My family lived close to the lanching sites near Wassenaar and The Hague in The Netherlands. They remembered the "broom" sound". Later also the V2 was launched from these areas. I learned a lot of stories from the old people who actually witnesed it. Like German soldiers who got blind because they drank the rocket fuel. I visited one of these sites and you still could smell rocket fuel after some digging.
giant didgeridoo
My father in law told me these were god damn dangerous to light and launch , in fact he figured about third never made it of launch rails ..
The doodle 🐛 🚀🔥
My grandparents had their piano tuned back in the 1970s. In the process of tuning said piano the tuner discovered a chunk of ceiling plaster that had become lodged under the some of the metal strings. It had found its way there when a V1 had half demolished the house in 1944.
me the next day when i ate something spicy
Anyone know the max power (thrust rating) of this engine?
Must be amazing to hear that on top of your head while eating a baguette. This is only second to a 2000 Panzers surprise coming from Ardennes.
Simple Technik.
