Also: the guy is losing his voice, I guess they prefer to portray the re-arranged version because its easier to him.
I thought I was being proper Mandela'd for a moment. This is how it should sound. You should definitely rename the video with "original version", took me ages to find this!
I did feel disappointed for "imagining" the song more "beefy".. But my sanity kept intact because I was sure the beginning was awesome, not some palm-muted strings..

Whenever they play it live they do so in the style of the original recording.
I'd pretend it doesn't exist if I couldn't hit the higher notes and vibratos of this versions.. (Unfortunately, the guy is losing his voice over time).

It feels soooo good to listen to this original version. Haven't heard that for awhile, mostly because it can't be found on any music streaming platforms out there, and I grew too lazy to listen to music from CDs. Listening those rerecorded versions feel sooo off. Those are good for sure, but this one have something called the power of nostalgia.

No, it's nowhere near as good as the single version
You only have to rip a CD once and you have it on your computer. I know keeping music on your computer is now as old fashioned and obsolete as playing CDs but until streaming services stop being shite my digital music collection is here to stay.
That's why music and TV shows (even movies) must "exist" (both hard copy or in YOUR drive. Not provided by whoever thinks it's best for everyone.
The vocal take and guitar AR obviously better here but the label had to do something to justify owning it

I think this version is much more mysterious and eerie. The rolling drums are very sexy, the vocals are more subtle and it doesn't have the cheesy harmonics on the guitars. Really glad I found it again!
Why isn’t this version on iTunes?
I just read that they re-recorded the song for later pressings of the album and iTunes has the updated version with the newer version of the song. I just purchased the album on iTunes and was so confused when it got this song and didn't sound the same as I remember. Weird stuff. Will always be a great song no matter what but this version will always be my favorite because it's the first one I heard

Ah, finally - the original version! Haven't heard this since my copy of the album was nicked years ago. Weird how they felt it necessary to re-record twice, once for the single, once more for subsequent copies of the album. This is by far the best version!
Better version for sure. Although it really highlights how much it was influenced by Suede's "The Drowners."

my guess is somehow Brian couldn't reach the high-note verses before the chorus anymore so they re-recorded the tune.
I love this version compared to the single. A little slower, I can just dig it more.
The guitars feel more raw/beefy and I can swear the drums *feel* like other guy playing.
You should rename the title of this video to state it is the "original version". I can't see another version of it on youtube.

That version was on the first edition of the first album...I borrowed it to a friend and taped it. When I bought the CD later, it had the single version on it (starting with these "noisy muted guitar strums")...
