Northville-Placid Trail Section Hike
It's been a usually warm and sunny fall, so we did an overnight backpacking trip on the Northville-Placid Trail (NPT). We hiked southbound from the Averyville trailhead in Lake Placid to Duck Hole, where we camped. On day two we hiked over to the Ward Brook Truck Trail, past Seymour and Seward High Peaks trails to the Blueberry Trail, and ended at Corey's Road. Fantastic trip with amazing weather. Lots of colorful fall foliage still on the trees for this late in the season.

Climbing the Tallest Adirondack Fire Tower
Переглядів 16514 днів тому
Climb up the tallest fire tower in the Adirondacks with us. The Wakely fire tower, in the West Canada Lakes Wilderness, is one of the tallest tower in the Adirondacks at 70 feet. It was first established in 1911 as a wooden structure, and replaced in 1916 by the steel one standing today. (CORRECTION: I’ve since learned Spruce fire tower is actually the tallest in the ADK at 73 feet.) The trail ...
Adirondack Rail Trail: Lake Clear to Floodwood
Переглядів 17321 день тому
Ride with us on the Adirondack Rail Trail from Lake Clear to the Floodwood Outpost our third installment of this series. This section is about 9.5 miles one-way (19 miles roundtrip). An awesome bike trail along several ponds and through wilderness. We packed a lunch and ate at the Floodwood Outpost picnic tables. As of 2024, Floodwood is as far as the trail goes. BUT, construction is underway t...
Overnight in a Lean-to with our Dog
Переглядів 146Місяць тому
We took our dog Maddie on an overnight canoe-camping trip on Lake Placid. We stayed in a lean-to on Moose Island with stunning views of Whiteface Mountain. It took us less than 1 hour to paddle from the public dock put-in to the lean-to, and that was taking our time enjoying the weather. Great trip!
Classic Adirondack Canoeing on Black Pond
Переглядів 67Місяць тому
This fall day we put in our canoes for Black Pond by Keese Mills Road. After a short paddle, we ate lunch at the Black Pond lean-to near the footbridge, returned and crossed Keese Mills Road and paddled up to Lower St Regis Lake and back. We saw one other canoe the entire day. It's a perfect paddle for visitors and beginners. Walking trails maintained by Paul Smith's VIC provide an option for n...
Adirondack Rail Trail: Saranac Lake to Lake Clear

I filmed my October ride on the Adirondack Rail Trail from Saranac Lake to the intersection of Route 186 / 30, right before Lake Clear, and the return. It was GORGEOUS fall weather. Peak leaf peeping! Absolutely enjoyed every minute. This section from the Saranac Lake railroad station to NY Route 186 (and back) is 12 miles roundtrip. Riding all the way from Old Military Road in Lake Placid to R...
UCI Mountain Bike World Series Debuts in Lake Placid
Переглядів 236Місяць тому
We attended one of the first UCI World Cup competitions at Mt Van Hoevenberg, Lake Placid, in September. Watch highlights from the men's UCI Cross-country Short Track World Cup race. The results decide the start order for the Cross-Country Olympic races to come. It was a great event and we'd definitely attend again.
Take a Boat Ride Around Lake Placid

Enjoy the fall foliage as we take a private boat ride around Lake Placid in late September. We highly recommend this outing for visitors. For our friends and family, we book with ADK Aquatics.
Paddling the Raquette River in the Adirondacks
Переглядів 81Місяць тому
A relaxing day on the Raquette River in the Adirondacks. We paddled from Axton Landing to the takeout for Lower Falls, and walked the short trail to the falls. It was a beautiful early fall day, with relatively few people on the river.
Hiking Wright Peak in the Adirondacks
Переглядів 84Місяць тому
In the Adirondack High Peaks, Wright Peak is one of the "easier" hikes on the MacIntyre Range. It offers magnificent views of nearby Algonquin Peak, as well as Heart Lake, Mount Jo and Lake Placid in the distance. From the ADK Loj, the hike is about 7 miles roundtrip and 2,500 feet of elevation gain. The summit elevation is 4,587 feet and is known to be one of the windiest summits in the High P...
Canoe Camping with our Dog!
Переглядів 210Місяць тому
When camping with our dog (Maddie), we especially like small islands that have only one campsite so that we can give Maddie a little freedom while keeping a close eye on her. On this trip Bartlett Island was ideal! Buck Island was larger with multiple campsites, so Maddie had less freedom there. For Maddie's gear, we pack a non-skid mat in the canoe, a life jacket, waterproof leash, water/food ...
Adirondack Rail Trail: Lake Placid To Saranac Lake

Ride with us on the Adirondack Rail Trail from Lake Placid to Saranac Lake. An awesome bike trail through woods and fields, and along ponds with mountains in the distance. We stopped for lunch in Saranac Lake at Barley Sandwich (the BEST!). After a bite to eat, we continued across Lake Colby before turning around and heading home.
Backpacking Table Top and Mt Colden
Переглядів 872 місяці тому
We did a 2-day, 1-night backpacking trip to hike Table Top and Mt Colden in the Adirondack High Peaks. Many lessons learned. The campsites by Lake Arnold were incredibly muddy with lots of blowdowns. As a result, several were closed and the one where we camped was sub-par. Hiking down Mt Colden (toward Colden Lake) was treacherous! The slab rock was steep and slick. Very wet and slippery. It wo...
Hike Mt Van Hoevenberg East Trail
Переглядів 852 місяці тому
Awesome afternoon hike up nearby Mt Van Hoevenberg, just outside Lake Placid, NY. We hiked the original west trail years ago, but they’ve since created a new trail on the east side that’s incredibly well done. Lots of stone steps and fairly smooth walking (by ADK standards). It’s 3.5 miles round trip, 920 feet of vertical gain, and a big payoff with spectacular views at the top. A nice option f...

ADK Spring Paddle in St Regis Canoe Area
Spruce Mountain fire tower is the tallest in the ADK at 73 feet. Nice video, thanks for sharing.
@@patt6961 Looks like you’re right! On the sources I saw originally - and if you Google what is the tallest fire tower in the Adirondacks - Wakely is called the tallest. But you’re right, Wakely is only 70’ and Spruce is 73’! I’ll have to hike Spruce next! Thanks for the correction!
Thank you for taking us along ❤ The trees are such a lovely color, beautiful scenery 😊
@@LordUSABless It was a beautiful hike! Thanks for watching.
Loved the editing! NPT is my next adventure. Gen X for the win!!
@@fuffydingo The NPT is definitely what you make of it. Happy hiking!
Beautiful trail. Thanks for sharing. 👍1
Thanks for watching!
Nice content but I have a important question
Great video! I rode it last week and your video really captures the beauty of that trail.
@@D-Ski-Bike-Kayak-Etc-cv5tm Thanks! Enjoyed your fall video too!
Your video is absolutely mesmerizing! The landscapes are captured so beautifully. Thanks for sharing these amazing views! sub & 👍5
Thank you so much 😀 Fall is a beautiful time of year.
Gotta love canoe limbo!
Great video! But people go to such places to get away from blaring music. Much rather hear the paddles in the water, wind, birds etc.
@@KevinBalch-dt8ot Thanks. Fair point!
The yellows are really popping, now.
It’s a gorgeous time of year. Great for paddling and hiking too!
I have wanted to get to Saranac Lake for 40 years. Looks like its worth the 6 hour drive for me. Hopefully next year!
Worth it!
Beautiful day.
Maddie needs a GoPro collar
Yesss!
Maddie is a star!
Social media diva!
How you like it?
Fun! Amazingly well constructed trail. We’ve since taken the section from Saranac Lake to Lake Clear, and it was even more scenic!
@@GenX_outdoors ya I will be biking it soon
Very cool trail. 👍🙂
@@myatlantictravel It was gorgeous and very few other people.
Very nice thank you
@@mfranquemont1884 Thanks! Great trail!
Good afternoon… just finished watching all four of your videos. Absolutely beautiful trip you had. Can I ask what week of May you went? I am planning to do a thru hike next spring. I would love to see all the Flora and Fauna as well as beautiful Lake Superior.
Thanks for watching! The wildflowers really blew me away! I hiked the trail May 23-26. Have fun planning your trip for next year. You’ll have a great time!
I'll be driving up from SE Florida to hike the trail in a couple weeks, reservations made, permits printed out :). Native Michigander but haven't been back "home" since 2005, very excited about my hike, it's too hot to hike here in FL right now, heat index over the next few days over 100 :( I'm very much enjoying your video.
So much of the trail is shaded, it'll be great. Absolutely gorgeous, and you can always get in the water to cool off. My favorite section was between Seven Mile Creek and Chapel Beach (day 3 in my vlog series)! Have fun!
@@GenX_outdoors So so looking forward to it, I haven't seen a Maple, Birch or Poplar tree in almost 20 years :( Getting kinda sick of palm trees to be perfectly honest LOL. My first stop is Au Sable Site #2 so that was kinda cool seeing you stayed and videoed the site too!!
@@mikem5933 And that feeling when you cross Mighty Mac!
Breathtaking presentation my friend, your content looks always so professional!
Thank you very much!
Lovely episode my friend 🏔️🥾
Thanks!
This video is like a love letter to nature! Every frame is filled with such beauty and tranquility. Great work!
Thank you so much 😀
Lovely upload my friend, so nicely narrated and filmed!
Thank you! It was beautiful weather that day!
I recognize you lol. I subscribed. Hope you had a good trip. I went ahead and pushed on out that third day. Bugs were wild that day lol
Outstanding work my friend, shots are just gorgeous!
Thanks a lot!
Thanks for the info on the base weight (13 lbs) and your pack weight!
Absolutely. It made a huge difference in the comfort of my hike! And with all the services along the TCT, it’s easy to reduce weight if you plan accordingly.
That is definitely the hardest stretch of the trail. Even coming down was hard because it was so steep and full of pebbles. Was awesome though!
Yes it was!
When I did the Trans-Catalina trail, I did it backwards and hiked from Two Harbors to Blackjack. I stopped in Little Harbor to eat lunch and was thinking, "Why didn't I stay here?? It is super nice." Next time I am.
Little Harbor was a great campground! I thought the main LH area was actually nicer than the Shark Harbor campsites, but depends if you want a grassy location vs beach.
Such a lovely adventure my friend. Fantastic presentation 👏👏
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
I love the Trans-Catalina Trail. I am doing it again in June.
It's a great trail. June will be warm!! Have fun.
@@GenX_outdoors I have a big hat! :-)
This looks like a wonderful hiking trip! Great trail, great film and beautiful colors out there.
Spring is perfect for the TCT!
That’s a lot of frogs!
Cute Dog!
