I liked this video. Ever think about going over Everything Everywhere All At Once? I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed this movie, There was so much in this movie that dealt with the different kinds of mental distress people have.
LOVE that movie 😁 so unique too! yeah I think that would be a good one to review 🙌🏻
i can't believe this podcast exists
Believe it 😉
I'm just about to watch the video so don't come for me but here's my understanding of Sean from Good Will Hunting: He's necessary. He is the perfect counter to Will. A grounded, emotionally intelligent therapist versus an intellectual bullet-train who wants first positioning on high ground and can't communicate his thoughts without wanting to tower over that person first. Will tried it with other people and they let it happen therefore he doesn't respect them ---> Professor Lambeau Will tried it with Sean ---> Got his shit pushed in and a future deterrence sprung forth whereby Will was forced to respect him. A therapist is whatever the patient needs at that time and some dudes just need a good smack on the back of the head.
Would love to hear what you think after having watched it 😁 but yes, bottom line is that we think it’s interesting that Sean on the surface “technically” is the worst therapist (worst offence assaulting a patient) but is also simultaneously the BEST therapist because of how he deals with Will and he’s the therapist that everyone would want to help them in their own lives 😁 not quite click bait l, but we think that Sean is the BEST embodiment of a spirit of a good therapist despite his flaws in the movie 😉
First of all, I just needed to comment Turtleduck Secondly, I could listen to Avatar content a hundred times and not be tired of it, so I would love more of that! And Third, mad respect for leaving all of this in, it was touching to hear your experience. So thank you for sharing!
from adaptation masterpiece to rushed and mediocre garbage. bad series. bad.
🔥🔥🔥
Brian and Mike are sympathetic to fascism as shown by the last season of Kora, they were also so inept that they had to finish that trainwreck off in comics. They idot-savanted their way through ATLAB then continuously showed their true colours since. Putting any weight behind their words/actions is foolish.
Wut
Just give it a thought for a second, Therapist, like, who thought it would be a good idea to put those two words together and give it the meaning of psychological security and stability through the process of 'healing' examination of the mind ?? WHO ?!!!! you english people are freakin weird >.>
In films, the film is the therapist
How come nobody mentioned The Sopranos yet
When you use the word Except you erase the meaning of everything you said before that point.
I love the avatar and your psycholigical analyis of the show. The problem i have is real ptsd can not be cured by therapy. As a vet i have been through 12 different therapists that had the best intentions but didnt help even a little. Thats just me but to throw more proof the amount of my fellow vets that harmed themsels to put it nicely. No one seems like they know how to activley help ptsd. It was a great job i enjoyed watching just wanted to tell my own views.
can this be a series? You two are great together.
Thank you! That's the goal ☺️
The fact that the OPLA crew took the time to make Buggy’s tent of pieces of his ship says how much love they put on it
Real therapy is slow, calm and very with very little protagonism of thr therapist. All those characteristics are terrible for a movie, it becomes boring.
I think the reason therapists are so misrepresented is because of how "psychologically stable" they are perceived, which is wrong, therapists are humans, humans have limits, therapists are just well more accustomed to hearing the problems of others without making it all about themselves
Arcane (both Season 1 and Season 2) is the greatest Tv franchise I have ever seen. It literally changed my life and it made me pursue dreams I was scared to go for. It helped me make so much mental shifts and it gave me so much life lessons. The greatest series of 21 century for me. Storytelling,Animation,Music,Symbolism- Everything was just perfect. Thank you for this great podcast, It was such a pleasure to listen to you guys. I need to check the video about Season 1 as well.
Are therapists characters just the modern day version of the Ancient Greek Chorus "character" in ancient plays?
I used to agree with the feeling vs thinking thing, but I've found that philosophy keeps empathy alive. Maybe it's just me.
Wow, that's an intriguing statement! How have you noticed that philosophy helps empathy? 🤔
This is totally for the Good Will Hunting therapist - Look at me Sean. It’s not your fault.
thank to the internet, I cannot read therapist the same way anymore
Hannibal is the best therapist.
I need MORE
Tuca and Bertie have a good representation of therapy, too. You should look into it.
I had to pause in the middle and go watch Zuko reuniting with Iroh again. It's probably my favorite moment from the whole show.
i seriously love your guys' videos... but multiple personality disorder? c'mon guys, that term is 30 years outdated, let's avoid stigma together.
you should do bojack horseman
The input to the discussion is so good 1 hours feels like 10 minutes. This is the first time ever that I am able to listen to Podcast while drawing without losing focus on either of them.
That's awesome! 👍
Dam, this video presents such a fascinating analysis of how therapists are portrayed in media! I love how you dive into both the strengths and weaknesses of characters like Dr. Wong and Sean Maguire. It's true that some portrayals can feel exaggerated or unrealistic, yet they often serve a narrative purpose. Your insights about the blending of character growth and psychological exploration really resonate. it's a refreshing take on therapy in film and TV! Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much! 🙏
Aang should have made people laugh in his introduction. Flying thing was definetely style over substance, but also the dramatic set up is not what Aang is at that time. He is a show-off but also an entertainer, and a child. His theme song that comes up in joyful moments is symolic of that.
To answe the question of why it needs to be Vander specifically as Warwick: the amount of shimmer Vander takes in S1E3 should have killed him. But something about Vander trying to protect his daughters pushes his mind past the deadly effects. That's what Singed specifically needs.
See…THIS explanation makes sense to me 😁 appreciate the clarification! The only thing I wish is that maybe this was a little more explicitly shown somehow 💁🏼♂️ but hey, what can you do.
@FrameOfMindBros yeah, they really never explain it clearly. They hint in season 1 that someone needs to be mentally strong to get the strength benefits of shimmer when Singed fixes Jinx, but they don't bring it up for Warwick.
Thank you for being the first analysis video I've seen that gives ample time to all the great moments in season 2. So many videos focus on the same 2 or 3 nitpicks, and it really gets old. Season 2 is still a great piece of television, and unlike many shows on Netflix, we got a real ending.
Thanks for noticing! And absolutely agree with that last point, I'd argue an imperfect but complete story is better than a perfect but unfinished one.
Avatar didnt fail. What a bait title.
You shouldn't be a therapist if you can't and/or won't react exactly like that no matter how surprised you are yourself - that's something I expect as a client. Why would I want an emotionally unregulated person to help me learn to regulate my emotions, and how would they do that?🤦🏻♂️ Because I'd be paying for your profession and not your person as a whole; so to have you as my therapist be unhinged is just straight up misuse(/abuse) of my trust, money, and time🤦🏻♂️
Both are getting new seasons so no, Avatar didn't fail.
An idea or two, like you really need it. Toxic relationships like Jim and Kim from Better Call Saul - Walt and Skylar Breaking bad - Vs a relationship like Hank and Marie. I mean there are a lot of different relationships to explore. Nacho and his dad - Mike and anything he touches turning to shit - Jesse with Jan vs Brock’s Mom. Walt Jr and breakfast
15:05 don’t apologize, you’re not sorry. If you were sorry you wouldn’t have done that. Whatever that means. Someone that bothered is the same someone who they put warning labels on things. Not like ironing with your clothes on.
I wasn't in to it right now that why. But when the whole family is here then we will watch it
pls do the sopranos
Oh…you can be sure of that 😂 Ep 2 in the works 😉
About 7 minutes in, when talking about preditions, dang, I heavily, heavily disagree. I felt heavily betrayed by the writing and things don't make sense. Alt realities and times travels were such an easy scape route to solve problems and so, so, so problematic and honestly, Viktor being the mage is just dumb. The show betrayed me in every way possible. Went from a character driven tragic narrative about 2 sisters and 2 cities and class strugle to World Ending treat generic stuff as a easy way out of dealing with any political conflict they had build up, and characters flipen and often reduced to much more moving the plot than being the plot (others, a.k.a Vi, completly destroyed in the process). The season had left me feeling completly desapointed and disheartened. I couldn't disagree more with this view.
0:45 Uncle Iroh! UNCLE IROH!!
100%
This podcast session was so hardboiled
Stoked you think so 😁🙏🏻
30:20 while I don't disagree with the little fixes you suggest, the reason those characters are the elite task force is because they were the heroes of the Memorial attack, They fought the Zaun Monsters until the Noxians arrived. Of all the enforcers they now have the most practical experience fighting Chem enhanced adversaries.
I adore you guys. <3 Thank you so much for sharing so much, and teaching us. <3
Thanks so much! We're so glad you're enjoying it! 😁🙏🏻
Very curious on yalls take on "Shrinking" on Apple tv ive never actually gone to a therapist but the show is pretty good
Ooh! We will check it out for sure 😁🙌🏻
55:44 gen Z: arcane be all the therapy i need😂
Haha 😂 truth
Some lovely observations and your predictions weren't that far off. Btw, Caitlin's literally a straight shooter.
I didn’t expect to sit through the entire video, but your analysis was so insightful and eloquent that I had to. One more thing about what makes Jayce’s experience in the alternate reality work narratively is that he gets to experience hardships similar to what Viktor had to go through as a shunned cripple from the undercity. Before this, he was outspoken and popular while Viktor was not, and their bond was shaken when he called people from the undercity dangerous. All that time spent with a broken leg in isolation made him empathize with Viktor in a way that he wasn’t quite able to before, and I believe it was a crucial factor in his ability to help Viktor in the end. This seems to be a common theme with Arcane characters, people having to see things through each other's eyes in order to reconcile.
100% agree, that's a brilliant way to put it. And it's cool how the writers include such an obvious visual connection between the characters with an injured leg, but because of the context they provide for how it happens to Jayce, it's subtle. They don't throw it in your face like "HEY, THIS IS JAYCE LEARNING TO EMPATHIZE WITH VIKTOR BECAUSE THEIR LEGS ARE THE SAME NOW!!!" 😂
