Alex Gordon Talks Royals Stories, World Series Memories & Retired Life
Kansas City Royals legend Alex Gordon joins Eric Hosmer & Mike Moustakas in the 1st edition of Diggin' At Home!
Gordo takes us back to his baseball roots in Nebraska, playing for the Cornhuskers, and becoming the 2nd overall pick in the 2005 MLB Draft. He shares what it was like coming up as a young player in the Royals organization and overcoming hard times early in his career. Gordo also takes us behind scenes of the conversations he had with Dayton Moore early on about transitioning from 3rd base to the outfield, a move that would lead to him winning 8x Gold Gloves, and at the time made room for a young Moose to fill that spot.
The guys discuss the current state of the Royals and why the future is so bright with a guy like Bobby Witt Jr. in the clubhouse. As an assistant coach, Gordo breaks down what he saw from this past season and why he's excited about what's to come in KC.
Of course the guys had to take a trip down memory and talk about the glory days in Kansas City. Gordo delivers a break down of his Game 7 hit that he almost made it home on - should he have been sent home? He also gives us a comprehensive break down of his iconic home run against Jeurys Familia. Gordo shares how studying Familia's quick pitch to Salvador Perez changed his approach at the plate, leading to the game-tying home run that sent Kauffman Stadium into a frenzy.
From his MLB debut against Curt Schilling to meeting George Brett as a rookie, Gordo provides an amazing look at his remarkable MLB journey.

i think this interview just changed my life, i'm so glad i chose to watch this.
Ya and he was on steroids the WHOLE time...just like manny and ortiz !!
Fantastic show! I will always cherish these memories and the feeling of happiness you brought to me as a long time fan. Thanks for doing these for us.
Epic world series and post season. That alds game 4 comeback was epic
I remember that well. This is by far my favorite podcast. Go Royals!!
Growing up my favorite player was Mike Sweeney, but after he left after 07 Alex Gordon became my favorite player. To hear that Mike Sweeney was the guy who took Alex under his wing is just an incredible thing to hear.
One of the most iconic moments in Royals History!!! Still remember it like it was yesterday
Now I am just gonna think of that collision that definetly would have happened.
when i found out gordo signed that four year deal after the world series, i was cheering and running down the hall at school. forever royal, forever loyal, he’s a real special guy
But it was 760 over 16 years not 760 they can repurpose this year. All their contract offer means is that they were willing to spend 48 this year on one player
This is the excuse that gordo makes when he strikes out at the plate!
3 of my Boys!
LITERALLY MY 3 FAVORITE ROYALS!!! LET’S GOOOOOO! 💙
Man I miss watching Gordo play left field! The dive into the stands in Chicago, the ceash into the wall in the ALCS, throwing out runners with his cannon...take your pick! Just waiting on the statue in the left field concourse.
Loved watching these dudes
That's why they don't want trevor bauer
4,5,6 kids 😂😂
Royals fans, what's your favorite Gordo memory!?
Either the homer off of Familia or the dive into stands against Chicago.
HR off Familia is one of my top 5 all-time Royals memories!
Probably either the catch diving into the stands in Chicago or WS game 1 homer. We weren't going to lose the WS after that homer, it was our year!
Best Royals squad!
Didn't he win a batting title in 3 different decades?
Always admired Dustin's grit. True gamer. I think most Hall of Fame voters will lump him in with guys like Mattingly and Johan Santana who had great years, but injuries cut short their careers.
And in Pedroia's case, it was Manny Machado that cut his career short.
Is she comparing playing pro baseball to talking about baseball .. sure it may be harder for a woman but it is not the same 😂
Let’s fycking go mets !!!
The money is absurd and I dont get the sycophantic responses like we want these guys to get paid a kajillion dollars. You're playing a game, dude. Maybe bring yourselves down to earth a little. It's obscene and I resent professional athletes nowadays.
lol what a take. You glazing for Manfred? I bet you were quiet for Cole and Trouts contract.
If the owners can afford it, then why does it matter? It’s not your money and the owners wouldn’t spend what they can’t. Let the guys get paid and don’t worry about it
Ok this Mets Soto deal Is like to sign k Greffey Jr when he was 25 to 26 years old Soto is still learning and developing Are you envy because Soto is going to make 800 million dollars or because he is going to the Mets ?
So you watch professional hoping to see if anybody get hurt or injured? Ok
So you watch professional hoping to see if anybody get hurt or injured? Ok
I was born in 78 so I got the end of Bretz career, but he was amazing even into his 30s playing at a ball park that really didn’t do him any favors He was what Donnie Mattingly could’ve been without the back problems
Which one of those you want up at the plate in the playoffs in the clutch. Soto…….
Trout in pinstripes makes sense, but Arte Moreno seems allergic to parting with superstars, even if it looks to be in his best interest. Would Arte allow it?
I'm waiting for a brazen FO that will say screw it and go for trout and sign like the next #1 and #2 free agents.
Soto is not the best player in MLB. Stop the false narrative- it’s 1. Ohtani, 2. Judge, 3. Maybe Betts or Soto 5. Acuna Jr 6. Witts Jr.
Soto cant even run or defend. Dude is a glorified DH. A liability in the field
You just mentioned a bunch of regular season players that can't hit in post season, Soto is a different animal in post season
LFGM
Pretty nice to see the Yankees and their fans get their comeuppance
Great Pod…love that you are having more barstool people on.
Agree wholeheartedly! Billy the Kid was the textbook definition of overpowering. Better K/9, H/9 and WHIP than Mariano.
DK = Dan Katz.... Duh
Draft kings?
U are so pretty babe❤
I caught all throughout little league and babe Ruth as no one else wanted to or just couldnt. I would have conversations with the homeplate umpire all game. Nobody knew a thing.
Tatis be at them diddy parties lmao.
Sox
Most entertaining 3B ever BY FAR. Elite showman, a delight to behold. 1980 .390, and the Pine Tar Incident. Long may you run.
@@alsacrime4806 I think Mike Schmidt of the Phillies was just as entertaining and a much better defensive 3B who hit both with frequency and power--a better slugger.
Soto to the Jays 😎
BRETT IS GAY
Soto is signing with a baseball team, probably one in the AL or NL.
El Needle.🤡🤡🤡🤡
Ask this clown how it felt making the last out in the NLDS?
Don't say you hate LA when you don't travel past the 10. 🌴🌞🌊
First
Congratulations 😂
I say Yankees
Soto yankees
Kayce smith is great
Soto will undoubtably be a Met
Stevie will not be denied!
I cant wait until this ages...
@@kyle2441 gonna age like fine wine my guy he's not taking lesser money from broke boy Hal
Soto is not signing with the Yankees
Most likely he is signing with the yankees. Till now scott has been upping the price for the yankees by using red sox, mets, dodgers, blue jays as leverage to cause the yankees to pay more for soto and to get juan the best offer from them. This has been the plan from the start of free agency
