    I’m in the process of trying to do it now. I’m a Combat Veteran with 8 kids so instead of “Compound” or “Estate” mine is called a F.O.B. (Family Operations Base) I have all 8 kids on a specific path for example, my daughters (5) are all going to college and each one will study: Accounting, Agriculture, Business, Law, and Economics. While my sons (3) will go to trade school for Welding & Carpentry, HVAC, etc. each will work together to build onto the empire while ensuring no person has any assets or liabilities in their name but will live for free while working maybe a few hours a week and we all spend time together

    Enjoyed watching this. I’m going to share it with a couple “makers” I know. I believe my Aunt, Jean Swanson had a floral shop in this building years ago. She would have loved this! Sadly, she passed in November. I do have a suggestion… come up with a way people can submit historical stories about this building for the future generations. If you ever decide to write up something on the history of Viola and this building, personal stories will be helpful. I also realize you don’t need another thing on your plate right now however, the time to capture them is now. I’m excited for you and can’t wait to see where you take this. Viola is lucky to have you!

      @@gemini4life851 very kind! Your suggestion is something they 100% agree with and have actually already started doing. Chase and Jackie just had a 93 year gentlemen in last week before we the Mercantile opened and he spent a couple hours with them telling stories behind a camera and microphone, about Viola and the opera house. His first job was working in the hardware and grocery store (now Mercantile) when he was a teenager. That history must be recorded!

      You are very misinformed. The wind turbines definitely output more energy than they takes to run. They do need maintenance & replacement parts - over the course of 30 years.....30 years! . I think we should be creating nuclear plants. I just hear Elon Musk state that he could build a solar farm, 50 miles x 50 miles, and he could power out while nation with it. It requires advanced use of batteries but it's technically possible. I thought that was wild to hear.

    Fiber and fuel??

    • @LandYourGround
      @LandYourGround 3 місяці тому

      Of course! Agriculture isn’t just about raising crops and animals for people to eat. Cotton is considered the world’s most important non-food crop. Wool is also an important ag commodity that is grown and brought to the market by farmers. And 98% of the gasoline we use in the USA is 10% ethanol. Corn ethanol and biomass fuels produce a lot of energy that drives our country and is cleaner for the environment than straight fossil fuels.

    I've been saying this for years. Farmers are a dying breed, and it's a crying shame

    • @LandYourGround
      @LandYourGround 3 місяці тому

      There are fewer farmers every year, that’s true. But there are a lot more agricultural careers than there used to be also. Ag is changing and it is opening opportunities for some folks to find great careers and create businesses that work with that. We agree it’s very sad to see small farms shutdown anytime it happens though.

    Timber is more akin to compound interest as to harvest value. If as in your case it takes 50 years to get Black Walnut to 20" diameter the yearly growth is 20/50 or average of .4" trunk diameter inches of growth (and for timber growth rings are remarkably stable) per year so that in year 50 your timber increases in board feet factor 25.2 versus in year 5 your timber increased by 6.3 board feet factor. So the longer an owner waits the greater the value/income for yearly growth of the timber stand. This economic reality if explained to land owners shows when to harvest and at what sustainable rates so that the yearly value/income can be set to grow each year and allow for yearly income while compensating for inflation in perpetuity. Land once managed for the long game becomes one of the best investments for creating and carrying forward generational family wealth. Ray Stormont

      The good ones do. Though there are unscrupulous loggers who take advantage of landowners regularly, and give the rest a bad name.
