Bringing new life to old objects and once again giving them purpose.
Restoration of This tiny Gas Can Didn't Go as Smooth as I'd Hoped
I found this little one quart safety can at an antique store years ago. What caught my eye more than it's unique size was the way it was built like a tank. Justrite still makes and sells this same size gas can, but now it is like anything else built today, lightweight and more flimsy looking. If you have any idea why someone would need such a small gas can please let me know in the comments.

Restoration of an old "Valve Lapper" tool
Переглядів 137 тис.10 місяців тому
This hand crank valve lapping tool was first introduced in the early 1900s by Albertson & Co. I found this one calling to me at an antique store about ten years ago. Finally, I've gotten around to restoring it and adding a modern suction cup so I can use it to repair modern valves. A few parts ended up getting replaced with new shop-made pieces as well as having to make a few missing parts. I l...
Rusty Framers Square - A Restoration
Переглядів 933Рік тому
This Framers Square was my late Father in-law's and has been collecting rust up in our barn for years with many of his other tools. With some good elbow grease, I quickly got it back into working order. I decided to do a simple hot waxing on the bare steel as I have great luck with that as long as I drive the moisture out of the pores of the steel first. All of my restorations are done on as-fo...
We used brass containers like that to hold mineral spirits to clean hand set type before and after making proofs prior to the printing of the projects
Oh, very cool
Perhaps old timey chainsaws or mowers?? Perhaps as a primer for old timey engines?? Just guessing. 🤷♂️
Seems like a good idea
I normally don't like music added to these restoration videos but this simple quiet guitar is really nice. Took until 2 minutes into the vid for me to subscribe 👍
Thanks! I was running my CNC router (which is loud) while filming a few spots so I had to mute a bunch of clips. I thought the low music would kind of even everything out.
This comment didn't go as smoothly as I hopped.
That'll happpen...
Very nice and worth a sub. 👍
Thanks!
We had these cans on our workbenches at a printing company I worked at. We kept acetone in them. Restore your oil can next. Is it a can from Dutton Lansing, Golden Rod?
This is what I had imagined they were often used for. I repaired the plunger and bumped out a few dents on that oil can some years ago. I'll have to see who makes that one.
Nice job
Thanks!
Great work buddy. I enjoyed that immensely, so much so, I subscribed. You may have to build your repertoire of restoration videos though.
Thanks a ton. Yes, I'm sort of just getting started. Should be having them come out every couple of weeks from here on out.
Nice job!!
Thank you!
Well fettled!👍👍 Justrite also made Petrol/Gasoline pressure lanterns and pressure table lamps, so that can may have been for the lanterns. Justrite lamps and lanterns can be viewed on the Classic pressure lamps forum.
Thanks! I'll have to check them out.
*_Where can I get this pressure gauge ?_*
I got this one from Amazon amzn.to/4aErowj
Very good! I'm from Americana SP Brasil.
Thanks!
That’s a huge amount of mucking around for such a tiny lamp! I hope it was worth it for you! And you don’t know what to use it for?! Okay if you have loads of spare time.
Loads of spare time? Not around here 😅🤣. These kinds of projects are a bit of fun for me. I know what I might use it for, but I'm curious what it was originally promoted to be used as. Thanks for watching!
Maybe a hobby car. 🧐😁🚜.?
Like a radio control car?
Awesome job mate!
Thanks a lot!
Add a couple flat spots to that adapter so you can get a wrench on it instead of cranking on the brass schrader valve to tighten it and I think you're all set.
This was my original plan, but it was pretty easy to tighten by hand. Being a one off tool I just didn't find it necessary in the end.
Amazing :) this company is still in production today making this same can (still 0.5L and 1.0L). The yellow paint on the handle and the 76 would mean used in construction, the old "Hey Arty, grab your helmet and sign out a gas can, be sure to fill up your chain saw start of shift no loafing around". Building construction or city workers, rail etc would have been the likely users of this one :)
That's kind of what I figured that 76 was for. It reminds me of checking out a tool kit from the tool crib in auto shop back in high school.
Nicely done. I have my late fathers old valve lapper. I've been tossing around the idea of restoring it.
Thank you! That was a challenging one for sure. You definitely should!
Great job! You'd never know it was rusty. Nicely done
Thanks again!
отличная работа!
Thank you!
Beautiful restoration. Nicely done
Thanks, this was a fun one
RC cars
Yup, that might be handy.
That's not a chicken, that's a duck.
Oh it's a chicken alright. I've owned ducks before, never again 🤣
No idea who'd want to use one, good resto job though. But please leave out that Chinese Torture music loop next time, I had to watch without sound.
Thanks! I will keep that in mind. I had a lot of shots where I had too much background noise and had to mute sections. I thought the background music might even things out a bit.
@@Fix-N-Stuff Thing about music tracks, they make videos into Music Videos rather than anything else. Even soundless asmr is just a music video (only a billion times more annoying leading to murderous rage). And without dialog the sound is more elevator than pleasant. Music can augment a video, but shouldn't dominate one unless your intention is to make a music video. Then you would title "listen to my music track ..." rather than "watch what I do ..."
@baritonfelix after 4 kids, what music? You learn to filter out noises very quickly. Personally I didn’t find the music annoying in the slightest. If I do have a problem with the music, I use the volume control.
@@shedmanx3640 I am a musician and my brain is conditioned to understand music regardless of the volume. If you feed me the same 4 bars in an endless loop it is, for want of a better word, nauseating.
One person trekker, maybe?
Interesting idea
1:11 can you share where I can get that camera, you doing amazing works especially on dented area, just subscribe. I got one gas tank 2-3 gallon if not mistake, keep in store almost 20 years ( get from exxon mobil warehouse) this tank attach with rotary hand pump and 3 ft hose. hope I can send someone like you to fix.
Thanks! Here is a link to that camera. amzn.to/40CAEwA I've owned several of these over the years and have been pretty happy with this one.
Kerosene for lamps and heaters.
Could be. If so, I would think it might be useful if the spout was smaller for more delicate pours?
The gas can turned out great. I am thinking it probably was for "kerosene" for hurricane lamps. It would have been a nicer touch, if the bushing was out of brass instead of plastic. Either way great job. Definitely came out nice
Thanks! I actually thought about using brass, but I was determined to put my cheap 3d printer to use ;-)
A rubber seal not a leather one...
That might be better in the long run. Easy enough to swap out if it degrades in the future I suppose.
Perfect size for kerosene lamps
Good Idea!
Can be used for other flammable solvents, such as acetone, mineral spirits, turpentine, etc.
I was thinking the same thing. Perfect for kerosene for lamps
It kind of reminds me of something you'd find in a chemistry lab to hold flammables just like you're suggesting
That paint stripper just worked so well
It does a pretty good job of the paint before going into the sand blast cabinet or using a wire wheel to finish it off.
Good work!
Thanks!! This was a fun one
Turned out really nice 👍👍 I'm not gonna lie my butt puckered when you went to get the pin out of the lid😅
Thanks! Yeah I kinda saw myself brazing one of those little ears back on, but they held on 😅
Absolutely beautiful work! I learned so many little tips and tricks in this one video, that’s it’s inspired me to take on the restoration of a couple old antique tools I’ve had for years, one of which is an old antique “James Swan & Co. / Connecticut” beam drill as used in the 1800’s in timber frame construction of homes and barns. Thank you so much for taking the time to shoot, edit, and publish this video for the benefit of all. Great work and much appreciated. Thank you. Subscribed today by the way. 👍
Glad to hear it! Thanks! Good luck with your restorations. Reviving the past is very rewarding.
At first I didn't understand what this tool was for, now I know its uses
Thanks for stopping by!
It's not just having the right tools, it's knowing how to use them, great job!!!
Thanks for watching!
Hard work
Thanks!
Great video and professional work
Thanks a ton!
Wonderful, I'm over 65 and first time seeing one like this, hats off to you, viewer from trinidad
Thank you! Glad you stopped by 😉
💩💩💩💩💩💩
Nice work, I love to watch this kind of videos ❤❤
Thanks a ton! I'm working on getting more out soon
if you have hydraulic lifters don't forget to tip the valves stems ...
Would this be in a flathead engine where the lifters make direct contact with the valves?
That was probably made out of ductile cast-iron.
This was my guess. Would that also be called gray iron?
Yes I believe so. It machines really easy and if you file or sand it, you can taste the metal in the air, if that makes sense. kind of like when you’re sanding something that’s rusted you get that rust taste. Old cast-iron has its own taste as well.
മലയാളി🙏👍
Thanks for watching!
Start the video until you hear the cow
Thanks for watching!
😂 cow
She's always yelling at me 🤣
¡Óptima herramienta! Óptimo trabajo. Es útil para talleres
Thanks!
I suppose the upper wooden handle,must be as a “T” handle .
I found it sort of unnecessary, but I do feel like it balances it out a bit.
No it's A old-school valve lapper tool for vehicles and small engines from the old Days of course.
It's a pretty neat old tool. One of my favorites.
