35 years ago Sandra and I met on a blind date at the Salisbury Mall in Salisbury, NC. We went to go see a movie at this very spot! Oh my gosh...I want to cry, but I did get me a souvenir!

The Happy Tree
Переглядів 44Місяць тому
During a Carolina Thread Trail hike a little over a month ago, Sandra and I was introduced to a Mimosa tree. Sandra did some research on it and found out that it has medicinal properties. So, while harvesting some flowers / bark, we had the delight of running across a therapist who treats her patients with the aspects we learned about.

      Yeah, I know....we do a lot of Carolina Thread Trails and see so many historic buildings just crumbling away. They are like the old barns we see here-and-there. I'm old enough to remember the days before remote controls and microwaves. We've come so far with technology, but the anger / violence is something on a whole new level. I just heard about another mass shooting this morning, it so common place. There was a time, when this theatre was up and running, the shootings were not heard about as they are now....this was latter 2000's. It is rare we go out anymore to eat or see a movie....we just assume wait and stream it at home with a home made cast iron pizza. Our 35th anniversary will be September 16th....The Abyss is on one of the streaming channels, I saw it....either Hulu or Tubi, we plan on watching it. I have not seen it since 1989 on our first date at this theatre. Thanks for the comment, you're right.

    I typically use hard white, spelt, or kamut milled at setting 10 on my mock mill for my cream of wheat and never have problems with clumping. I think the issue is soft white mills to such a fine powder that even on a coarser setting you're getting a lot of fine flour. happy milling!

    I live in Haywood County. There is NOTHING urban about Haywood County! 😄Urban legend connotes a more recent or modern phenomena. I think the word you were looking for is "folklore". The story of the Boojum and Hootin' Annie, which is over one hundred years old, is our local folklore, here in Haywood County. That being said (with just a bit of snark), I just now recorded Annie hootin' in the Balsam Mountains in Maggie Valley. It will be on my channel, shortly.

    • @journeythru-n-c
      @journeythru-n-c Місяць тому

      No...urban legend was exactly what I meant....when you actually look-up the term "urban legend," it reads..."The term “urban” doesn’t have anything to do with a story starting in the city. We use the word to help distinguish between older, classic stories, and those developed in modern society." (literaryterms.net / urban legend). I also used it because it is a popular catch phrase folks have heard...everyone usually perks-up when someone says "urban legend." When we were thinking of a playlist "urban legend & ghost stories" came to mind, because not every urban legend has to do with ghosts. We still have "45" counties left to do out of the 100 in North Carolina. We will begin to explore these new counties starting latter October of 2024. We have several more urban legends / ghost stories we'll be adding. I will say though about this one....there does seem to be some sort of connection with Bigfoot. In one of these stories we came across in another area, a made-up story was spread to scare people away from the illegal moonshine operations some had in the area. Montgomery County supposedly has more "Bigfoot" activity than any other county in the state, at least this is the information I found. That was some incredible information, seeing I backpack / hike in that area.

    • @BlueRidgeBigfoot
      @BlueRidgeBigfoot Місяць тому

      @@journeythru-n-c I was "snarking" about Haywood County not being "urban", but was more about the legend not being modern. As I originally posted, "Urban legend connotes a more recent or modern phenomena", and you, yourself even stated "those developed in modern society". The legend of the Boojum started around 1900. I don't think anyone would consider 1900 to be modern. So, I see what you are trying to do by lumping the 120 year old, Haywood County folklore in with "Urban Legends". If you said "Urban Legends, Ghost Stories and Folklore", then you'd have everything covered. BTW, I just uploaded more vocalizations of Hootin' Annie from last Monday, and these are amazing! As an active researcher of over 20 years, I'm 99% confident that Boojum and Annie was/is Bigfoot. They just came up with an interesting backstory to explain all the hootin' and hollerin', and sightings of a 7' tall hairy man who sometimes got caught spying on the ladies bathing up here in the mountains, after they built the Eagle Nest Hotel. In fact, the building of a road, the clearing of land and construction of the hotel is the exact same pattern of human behavior that leads to increases in Bigfoot encounters and activity, that take place today: Encroachment upon their natural habitat to expand our human infrastructure. And the construction of the Eagle Nest was a HUGE DEAL. I'm going to have to look into Montgomery County, though there's plenty enough going on out here to keep a bigfoot researcher busy!

    • @journeythru-n-c
      @journeythru-n-c 28 днів тому

      Yeah, I would've never even considered much about the term "urban legend," unless you had brought it up, so I got a chance to glean some more insight about it...cool deal. We've been wanting to go to another Bigfoot Festival in Marion, but scheduling it has been tough. We've only been to one a few years ago. We did go to the Expedition Bigfoot Museum this past travel season and heard some of the vocals they had....really bizarre. That was a museum I was always hoping to go to and we decided to check it out while on a trip at the tip of NC, we were camping real close to it. I did a video about the trip, here's a link...ua-cam.com/video/gAwf2f5i-kA/v-deo.html Anyhow, thanks for the insight, I'll check-out the recordings....be safe!!

I had watched a video where they explained exactly why they do it and how in the past they did not allow folks to pick their sites....the UA-cam video was a news channel for RV'ers, seems to be on top of what's going on. They did say that the campgrounds need to be upfront about the extra fee and not wait until the person has went through picking the site, filling out all the information and then hit them up witht he extra fee. Congrats, we'll do! If I remember correctly, it was around $4500 for a Class C of the size we had. They had it done in exactly 3 days. That is some really tough stuff. It is much like (if not the same) as bedliner material, but they also spray a white UV protectant on top. I am very happy with it. Have a super day and we hope you have much success!!

    My hubby and I just bought a camper for our 50th anniversary. We will be going to the Cliffs real soon for our first trip. We've visited there before, as we used to live in that area, but have not camped there. So looking forward to it as well as discovering many more NC camping sites!

      Congratulations on your purchase! That is a really nice campground. Check out "Harvest Hosts" also and you can find some unique places, many are boondocking locations, we've done videos on several of them. We're attempting to stay in all "100" counties in North Carolina...55 done at the time of this comment, hopefully, we can give you some ideas on some of the places. We wish you safe travels!!

    Great video! I live near Morrow Mt and go there often. Our local Amateur Radio Club provides communications for several running, biking and hiking events at the park. Lots of work has been done recently in the campgrounds and at the summit. Momo is one of NC's best kept secrets!

    The sound in the background is from cicadas, not locusts. It's been a few years since I remember hearing them last. I've seen in the news that there are two broods of cicadas emerging which only happens once every 221 years, the last time the two broods synchronized was 1803 (I read the numbers on the internet so it must be true). I was camping and hiking on the other side of the river in Uwharrie this week. I hope to visit the Morrow Mountain side some time this year. Looking forward to your next video!

    Only paranormal is thing I’ve seen is in Rodanthe off of Sea Haven drive. I’ve seen a ghost lantern twice on the beach right before sunrise. One time I ran over a snake on that road and when I got out of the car there was no snake anywhere. There was a small graveyard with the Midgett family. I’ve had friends with strange encounters in that area as well.

      Thanks for sharing! We love checking out old graveyards...the OBX Campground has a graveyard almost in the middle of the campground. The grave yard is situated towards the entrance more, but splits one side form the other. The staff their have excellent records concerning the history of that graveyard. Again, thanks for sharing that and have a fantastic day!!

    I’m sorry, but do not waste your time visiting the tramping ground! Unless you wanna just say you’ve been there. It is on private property, but as long as you don’t trash the place, and the gate is open, you’re allowed to go. I’ve tried to contact the owner, but they didn’t ever respond. They do have BBQ trucks there every so often! Also, if you’ve past Sandwood Drive, you’ve past the tramping ground.

    Perhaps the moon eyed people were suffering from albinism? Quite a stretch to say, but maybe. It would explain the sun sensitivity and pale white skin.

      Yes, I have heard that before. Also, the stone figures in the video is actually on display in Cherokee County. A farmer was plowing and dug them up....they believe it is a representation of the moon-eyed people. Have a super day!!

    8 think I would have stopped at that Cracker Barrel again, until the storm passed. I used to live 1/2 mile from Toe River Campground.

    • @journeythru-n-c
      @journeythru-n-c 5 місяців тому

      Yeah, that would've been a good idea. We actually have boondocked at the Cracker barrel we passed. If the wind would've been any worse, we would've pulled over. Toe River Campground needs to let that one destroyed area to remain. They are definitley prone to flooding in that lower end next to the river. I think it is a great campground, they need to rethink building that area back....I saw the aftermath and "wow" what destruction. Thanks for the comment, safe travels!

      Oh yes, we use to have a car tow dolly. Outstanding dolly, but man was it a pain to have to set-up when the weather was bad. I have since sold it, because we only travel in North Carolina with the motorhome. We live in the middle of the state and it really only takes us up to 4 -5 hours in either direction to the ends of each side of the state...unless we are wanting to travel the outer banks. Most of our areas we annualy visit are 4 hours or less, so Sandra just chases in the Honda. If I ever was to downsize, I swear I would get one of those retro campers...they are so cool. I don't ever see us going larger.

    Moses probably had an easier time walking up because he had a staff. I bought a pair of staffs off amazon (trekking poles), but I think my staffs are counterfeits because I can't get them to turn into snakes.
