Welp, now I have to head to my local dam in Oklahoma for Striper lol…it’s the one fish I don’t catch a ton of. Appreciate the video!
Oklahoma is loaded! I wanna fish there someday. Happy fishing!
Where to launch?
@@TheArsenal187 boat launch right under the bridge
@@StriperPursuit any crappie in that area? Sorry for all the dumb questions😂😂😂😂 work too much and never get the chance to get out
What's the best time of the year to fish for them?
Spring to early summer and Late summer to the fall time is my go to. Right now they should be in there but haven’t gone in a while.
Stripers dont reproduce in these waters, so female or make doesnt matter. What does matter is these fish were probably stocked over a decade or two ago and are the survivors. Let em swim!
Nice
Man nice blues i want to catch of of those gator blues
Nice stripers but poor handling of the fish and release ,after a fight you want to hold the tail and wait for them to blast out of you're hand..
@@davek677 did you even watch the video? Not a single fish floated up and they all blasted out. There is no need to revive a little schoolie after you straight up yank them out of the water, they arent even using energy to fight since they’re just being dragged on top. They have plenty of energy if you unhook them quick. You only need to revive bigger fish that actually fought. Watch 11:47 and 15:05. We revive fish when they need it and even those hardly needed time to swim off.
Damn intro was long an useless it got better once u started catchin fish
“Useless” is objective to the individual as some actually like the parts of the intro. Fast forwarding is an amazing option you can use which you may find more useful to you if a part of the video does not entertain you or yet simply just watch something else may be the better choice.
Great video thank you
I just subscribed because I fish the Cape Cod area frequently, but I have a tough time catching striper. Just wondering if you had a favorite lure you use or even any tips for beginners on how to catch them.
You really gotta find out what they’re eating that day and it’ll depend on what you use. My main arsenal is just a top water plug/popper, hydro-minnow, bucktail or algag swim bait.
What this the am that day?
Nah, this was 1pm-5pm.
@@StriperPursuit Thank you! Good stuff man. What a day!
Male female it doesnt matter. These fish were born in a hatchery. All landlocked striped bass are.
What’s the location? Great video 👏
@@Nelson-qj8vh thanks! Cape cod canal, Massachusetts
How do you like the stradic SW? What size is it?
It’s a size 6k. I really like it. Not too pricey and a tough reel.
I’m in area for first time tonight and will go to try my luck.
good luck! heard chunking mackerel at night was good.
Nice smallie and good stripers too.
Going to fish the canal the first time, where should I go to get a stripper bite? What baits would you use to have best chance to catch? Nice video!!
I’m not a local but I’ve been having good luck at pole 65 on either side of the canal or going to west end and fishing maritime or bell road. Early morning 1hr before and after a slack. Three lures I use most are a bucktail, hydro minnow and top water plug.
Im trying to get into striper fishing and imma be fishing at melton hill dam. What swim bait would you recommend
If you're fishing there I would first recommend you check the water release schedule to see if they have any turbines on. No running water is gonna be a tough bite there but maybe early in the morning. Mostly any 4-5in swimbait will do but I prefer Algag's since they perform best at casting for me with 1 to 1.5oz jigheads.
@@StriperPursuit so if theres no turbines running dont bother going? And what about fort loudon
@@SouthEastTNCatfishinh Yea, from my experience the stripers don't get too active without any moving water. Fort loudon usually had its generators running but it's a little difficult to walk all the way to dam and can be quite snaggy until you learn the spots to throw. Overall it's a better choice if the water is running.
@@StriperPursuit what colors would you recommend
@@SouthEastTNCatfishinh Pearl white, bone, chartreuse or anything else natural.
I'm sad to say I have yet to hit the canal this year. I'll hit it for the fall run but I live closer to Boston so I just fish there. Slow year all around. The good days are really good but it's few and far between
I’m 13hrs away so we can only come once a year but glad we got lucky on this trip! Been hearing the same from all the locals, slow year all around unfortunately.
Insane vid! Around what time was the fishing like this?
Manz killin it in the Walcrocs 😂 who needs korkers
Frfr, them things came in clutch! I just slide down rocks lol.
Great vid! How'd you know the topwater bite would continue for blues if there were not that many birds in the vid?
When we first got there, there were a few birds there but not many. We just blind casted top water where we thought there might be fish and got some but when we saw mackerel swimming through we knew that the fish were gonna roll in.
@@StriperPursuit Thats insane bro. Was at the power plant that morning and it was ridiculous fishing all until noonish. Surprised it picked back up all the way down at the maritime
@andrewmeawad822 yea, we probably saw each other because we were at pole 65 there as well. You commented on the last vid asking the time, we were there 5am-11:30am and then left there and found the Mack’s at maritime.
How far is the walk to get to the spot sir? Thanks
You can park there and walk straight down 10 seconds.
@@StriperPursuitnice! Thanks for the rapid respond sir! Heading there now as we speak!

Thanks!
Awesome video! Great catches at the canal! Looking at your description - just using 15-20# braid? Wow.. thought it would be at least 30# needed for canal for those cows!
@@Unplugged704 if you use fresh powerpro you likely won’t ever break with 20lb. That stuff is strong and it allows you to cast lighter plugs out further into the strike zone. I’d only recommend going heavier if you plan on throwing 4+ oz but I don’t go that heavy.
Are you guys from located in that area or from another state?
We’re from NC. Always visit once a year around the same time.
My favorite Offshore anglers power stick rod, I caught more fish with my power stick over my other $400-$600 Rod.

Nice gj i believe i was more left to you guys this day aug3rd was the better day that weekend if i remember
@ryanG978 we got there in the afternoon of the 3rd and missed that morning but heard it was pretty good too.
How far do you have to cast? Are you getting all the way across? Do they ever eat at the surface or mostly off the bottom?
You pretty much want to cast a little past the furthest turbine that is on and let it drift down the current while jigging. They’ll be on top too if the conditions are right for it.
@@StriperPursuit thank you
Best place to launch from a kayak for them hybrids?
Around end of march to beginning of June they’re anywhere from state park boat launch to all the way up river to 40 bridge. There is a kayak access upriver near the railroad bridge I believe.
What kind boat is that? How many hp?
Sprinter 280 pro with a 200hp mercury
Eh is this robin channels or his bro? Yah be getting alot of action...
I’m his youngest brother, always fish with him. We get on them sometimes. Better than some other days.
Was gonna say let them breed unless a gill hook and they won’t make it…. It’s 2 per person… the limit. So This river has 2 types and struggled for a while with the strip. Local here… fishing is better at Fort Loudon.10 minutes away.
Yea, if I can I only keep a limit once a year since those fish ain’t exactly safe to eat often. If I go anymore throughout the year it’s all CnR. Melton is just easier to fish if they’re there.
Great video and I'm sure some good eating... what's the best time of year to catch those Hybrids ? Did you go to Marshall fishing access area then walk down to the water ? And are there any big catfish there or White bass ?
Is there any way you can get there from the bank
Yes, you can access the bank from either side.
may i know what lures you are using
Yes this is close to the i40 bridge. We were using shad, jerkbaits and umbrella rigs.
this looks like going to the bridge on i40 ?
i enjoy watching im fromhickory
Did u anchor any ?
I can’t remember if I did on this day but I usually do.
@@StriperPursuit ok new to kayaking I thanks for getting back to me so quick one more question when anchoring out there do I usually anchor off the side or front of your yak ??
How long ago was this
Last two weekends pretty much
Big fan !
Good fishing y'all
Is rn a good time to go for white bass or striped bass?
If the water is running then yes.
Love to see those fish on those stringers what it's all about sport and good eating
Wanna hit tuckertown dam with kayaks? I couldn't figure out how to send private message. I don't facebook much marketplace and hunting fishing.
A man I’ll go with ya. Long as the water isn’t to bad
Where did y'all get the fishing equipment at???
We get them from many places but mainly online. I just look for the best deals. Ebay for reels and usually tomo’s tackle or tackle direct for surf rods.
