Did you ever test the 2nd unit?? Thanks great video
Z Grills never sent us a replacement unit...
@Aldi sponsor The Grilling Dad!
That would be amazing! Aldi is my favorite!
Great review.👍 I just finished assembling my new MESA 405BZ from Lowe’s $399. and are enjoying it. However, I am concerned that the bottom edges of the side shelves are razor sharp and could cause a serious laceration to someone not aware of this problem. Coming from a more expensive Weber grill with similar side shelves, they turn up ⬆️ crimping the edges tight eliminating the sharp edges preventing accidental cuts😢
Great observation! What's are you grilling this weekend?!
How does the weber compare to my cheap propane grill?
It definitely makes more delicious food...
Great video!
Why thank you kind sir!
Did you make the sausage meat your self? If so what was the recipe for that
Great question! I did not make the brat mix. We have a great local family meat market that sells ground brat mix so for simplicity sake I used that.
Looks delicious, a really nice interpretation. I had something similar a year ago when I was working in bavaria. Also a pretzel bun (Laugenbrötchen), "Weißwurst" mixed into the patty and a sauce made out of sweet mustard. Worked way better as a burger than expected. If you can get your hands on sweet mustard give it a try, a delicious something everybody should know about.
That sounds delicious! I thought about incorporating mustard (and pickles), but decided to keep it simple. Thanks for watching!
Great video!
Thank you for watching!
Wow
Thank you! They were yum!
Amazing!!
Super delicious!
This channel is underrated your the best!!
Thank you!
These look awesome can't wait to try them. Simply genius!.. This would work well at deer camps everywhere!
This is a winner for sure!
This was one of the most entertaining BBQ videos I've ever seen! Making these FO SHOW!
They were delish!
another great video! will have to give these a try
I cooked eggs on the side burner when power was out after hurricane. 🤣
Click bait. Good info but still the title is clickbait
Fair assessment. Check out some of our more recent content - we're trying to put out more useful, real-world videos.
Watch your sister sauce, ha ?
Or is it wash your sister sauce?
Cheater! You could have easily made a nice sauce in the crock-pot, then wrapped your butt with some of the sauce and returned it to finish in the smoker. Once finished, add the renderings from the foil into your sauce and use it to mop back to the meat once it is pulled. Too easy!
Haha! Easy and delicious? Sign me up! Thanks for watching!
Clean your grill after you use it. Why would you do a video showing a filthy grill?
Thanks for watching and for your feedback! You're right, that grill was absolutely filthy.....
The sniffling was disgusting
Thanks for the feedback! What can I say - Winter in Minnesota 🤷
The Grilling Dad, You're fantastic! Let's be friends and have fun!

Side burner use for frying fish to keep the smell out of the house
Great idea!
Never use the side burner either, so much easier just using my stove
AMEN 🙏
Finally a smart person Blue Hogs baby
Delish!
a well edited grillin video you’ve earned my sub
Gracias. I am forever indebted to you. 🙇♂️
This video is really useful. Since the stove i was using had no cover or way to suffocate the fire, I had a hard time finding online solutions on putting the fire completely out. The thing of putting hot coals one by one in water was exactly the solution i was searching for. After that, they could just be picked up by hand and put somewhere to dry, so one can cook with them again
Thanks for the feedback!
How do you feel about this grill now in August 2024??? Thanks
Still using it! Filmed our latest video (chicken temp) with it. No complaints here.
Your deck needs some love.
Really funny you should mention... that has been THE project the last few weeks lol. Looks much nicer now :-)
YUCK!! I like mine well done!
To each their own! Thanks for watching!
It's proven that as long as the chicken can hold 150F for more 2 minutes it's safe for consumption. It's called pasteurization. The reason why they say 165 is to avoid trouble from the consumers. Chicen will also carry-over cooking once out of the pan or grill. As long as the breasts are evenly thick this works. I never been ill from eating chicken pulled , and rested at 150.
That aligns close to the serve-safe table provided by USDA: 2.7min at 150*. But, as you say, it does carry-over cook, and at 153*, the time drops to a little over 1min. Not many people actually know this though!
great detailed video
Thank you! We've got a few more cooking videos and a kettle grill review coming up so stay tuned!
Great review! I loved your son's approval at the end! I just bought mine
Thank you so much for watching! We've got a few more reviews in the works.
Great video, how do you like that combustion inc probe?
The CPT is not perfect, but it is an amazing piece of cooking tech. That being said I'm super excited to test out ThermoWorks new RFX wireless thermometer!
Thanks for the Blaz'n Grillworks recommendation! Super helpful.
We love our Blaz'n Grid Iron!
@@TheGrillingDadI'm really trying to decide between the Grid Iron and the Lone Star Grillz (LSG) 20x42. I'm leaning toward the LSG due to the charcoal option.
The LSG is on the top of my wishlist. I've heard nothing but good things. Let us know what you end up going with and how you like it!
@@TheGrillingDadI pulled the trigger on a LSG 20x42 Pellet Smoker today.
Congratulations! Let us know how you like it!
Does the lid leak quite a bit? I see a ton of smoke discoloration on the stainless steel along the perimeter of the door. I'm wondering if adding some gasket material would resolve this.
Yes it does leak quite a bit of smoke. My dad has a different model Recteq with the same issue and a gasket solved the problem. That being said I've seen no evidence that leaks like that lead to less smoke flavor or significantly longer cook times. You can get very smoky food cooking over an open fire.
Where’s the french-fried potatoes and the cold draft beer?
Great question! I missed the Heinz 57 too!
Thinking about getting in on their new smoker every 5 years deal. I pay $100 shipping. So a new updated smoker every 5 years for 50 years just shipping. Hard to say no.
Yea I saw that. Seems too good to be true....
I suggest you use 25% less sodium if you are going to add even more sodium
Great tip! Thank you!
My medium rare rib eye showed as 70 degree Celsius with this one. Horrible
Not the best option. We prefer the Thermapen One or Typhur InstaProbe. I find myself reaching for the Thermapen most often.
Great video, there's almost no reviews about this particular model. Did you use it since that video? It would be great to know what you think of the griddle itself. Temperature distribution, quality, etc.
Hey @Biker1111 - yup, have used it since! I'd say that, overall, it's been good for the price. The frame doesn't feel as strong/thick as a blackstone, but the grate does. It more or less heats evenly (some areas don't get as hot like the front), but I've found that with other griddles too. And it hasn't hurt my cooking. Just something you learn, with any grill. It's leaked grease down the leg by the drip (front right) because it didn't all get caught. We're planning a full review in the next month, so keep an eye for that!
@@TheGrillingDad Thank you! The price seems the biggest quality... I will check your review for sure, but I think that like a lot of things in life: Buy cheap, buy twice.... I got a 17" Blackstone at an incredible deal, but I like it so much that after 2 weeks I find it way too small for my family. That's why I'm already looking for a bigger one. The Camp Chef Gridiron seems a good griddle, but here in Canada they are very expensive. So I hesitate between a Blackstone and a Weber. The Vevor, at half the price, may be a good option, but I fear I will regret it in a couple years...
I'd recommend looking at the Traeger Flatrock and the Weber Slate.
Hi! I just purchase it for my husband, what size of propone tank do you recommend? We are both foodies and can't wait to use it
Awesome, enjoy!! Let us know if you make any interesting things! A 20lb tank is perfect. Fits on the holder. Those are the ones you normally find at a gas station or hardware store.
I just grilled a steak in my 20 year old Weber Performer. I just replaced the burner tube and table top. A1 customer support....OEM products available ...you get what you pay for !!!
I agree! We've got a 25+ year old Weber Genesis at our cabin. Still a fantastic grill!
Replace gasket with LAVA Gasket, seal up joints with LAVA sealer, normal things I've done to my WSM and DYNO smoker. Wheels not a problem, I added them to my WSM. The grease management system get a bigger bucket lol. The 800+ temp is concerning very concerning would like more follow up on that. Over all all these things are DYI stuff make the smoker your own. The real questions you did not answer which is TEMP control. How long did it take to get to temp? How well and for how long did it hold temp? What is the Temp ranges in the pit, hot and cold spots? Example do the biscuit or bread test. What are the Temp controls on the unit, for instance what is my temp range. How low can I go and how hot can I go? Fuel consumption. How long before I need to re fuel? And finally the most important question. Smoke absorption and flavor profile. Does it provide good smoke absorption and what is the flavor profile for various smoking pellets? I would be very interested in the review of the new unit.
Thanks for the great feedback! These are fantastic questions! I personally don't think a new grill should require modifications to function as expected. The grill actually heats up pretty quickly, but for me that's not a decision point. If I'm using a pellet grill I'm generally smoking which is a multi hour process. If the smoker heats up in 15 minutes or 30 minutes makes no difference to me. Temperature stability is also virtually a non-factor in general. You could argue that temperature variation is actually better than temperature stability on a pellet grill because of its impact on smoke profile. Pellet grills always have a grate level hot spot directly over the fire pot and the Smoke Beast was no different. Smoke flavor is also virtually non-existent when smoking above 225F, but that is true of every pellet grill I've used unless you supplement with a smoke tube or have a firebox (as on the Camp Chef Woodwind Pro).
@@TheGrillingDad Thanks for your response. I've never used a Pellet grill, like I said I have WSM which is my work horse and a DYNO vertical Offset which I need to use more. Both about the same price or cheaper than the Smoke Beast but then again I did buy both of them pre Bidenomomics so... My question regarding how it holds temp was meant with in a range For smoking I like to hold my temp between 225-275, with an average of 250. I'm a data nerd on this and have all kinds of temp probes that I use to graph. Love the Meater + and the 5GHz Bluetooth Inkbird WiFi. Anyway so my question is how well does it hold a temp for long periods of time with in a RANGE. I mean if I set it to 250 will it stay between 225 and 275 for hours with at least an hour or two being at the desired temp. Example. I put a brisket on my WSM after its calmed down to 275. The Pit Temp will drop to 225 and then will spike to 300 and will drop down to 250 after an hour or less. It will then stay at 250 for hours and only decrease and or increase if I have to take the lid off or refuel. So thats my question if I load the "Hopper up with pallets, set it to 250 will it stay at that 250 for hours and only decreasing as fuel burns out and increase as its refueled? Regarding MODS, to be honest for me thats part of the fun. Making it my own, improving on the design making it better.
More great questions! I haven't independently verified the temperature stability (using something like my Signals), but I suspect that the Smoke Beast will easily hold +/- 25F in stable weather conditions. The pellet hopper should last 10+ hours unless it's very cold outside. The pellet feed rate is controlled enough that I don't believe you'd see significant increases in temperature when the auger kicks on and more pellets drop into the fire pot. That being said I had a number of issues with my Smoke Beast so I wouldn't vouch for much on this unit! Thanks again!
@@TheGrillingDad Did you ever get the replacement unit? Were there any significant improvements on it? Did you happen to check the temp at each grate level? I'm wondering if it would be significantly hotter the lower you go since you were measuring 900F at the heat deflector plate.. Thanks in advance!
I have not received a replacement unit from Z Grills. I did not measure the temperature at grate level versus the two shelf heights. That being said the grate level temp will be very hot when running the grill to set temps at or above 450F (which is great for grilling). I'm not sure what the temps at the shelves are, but I cooked ribs (see our kettle grill vs pellet grill video) and those turned out great so I don't think the high heat is really a problem when smoking meat on either shelf. Let me know if you have other questions!
Do you have to drag it that low ?
You can tilt a little higher, but the handle and leg bracket/how the wheels sit prevent it from full height
Thanks for the video. 👍 Just finished seasoning and I ended up putting the undershelf in the space underneath the griddle top. Seems to fit nicely for now, but I guess we’ll see what happens after I start moving it around.
That could be a great idea! I definitely didn't want it on the grate. Let me know how it works for you!
Let me know next time you need a taste tester!
Will do!
Today i charcoal grilled for the first time . TRULY SUPERIOR experience!!!! Im never going back to gas!
The charcoal flavor is just outstanding. Gas grills are convenient, but nothing beats the flavor of charcoal grilling!
Question...are you working with a flat cut, or a full brisket complete with the deckle?
This was a whole packer brisket so it includes both the point and the flat.
Thank you for doing this! It's awesome to see it done slowly rather than the typical "I'm going to start trimming..." Then edited to the finished product.
If I had a resource like this when I was starting out I could have gotten much better at trimming briskets much faster!
@@TheGrillingDad no question about it! Almost need a moment of silence for all the poorly trimmed briskets.... 😂😂
That.... Looks.... Amazing!
Tasted even better than it looks! The combination of flavors and textures....one of the best things we've cooked on the flat top.
