      @michael_weer *SPOILERS* This one is so clever it uses pattern recognition against you. M. Night should watch this one to remember how to pull that off properly. It's made for diehard fans, down to the Tarantino style of chapters. I was making bad guesses. One of which was the couple worked together and fell out in between, but it went even more surprising.

    This just wasn't believable. Money draws just about any girl you could want in life. No need to go through this convoluted p**** Island route. Pros: *Looked beautiful *The throwback supporting cast Cons: *Lead actress is super ugly and isn't desirable in the least. *Giving away a major plot point with the lame warning card. *Villainizing men. Boring. *Ridiculous concept of the men of 🐈 island to do what they did. Why?

    It's a great story. The suspense is good while you keep seeing things unravel. This is the first film I ever saw with a trigger warning and it definitely was right to have it. I have to agree that last 5% of the movie felt incredulous. I liked this though and there are so many cameos Geena Davis and Kyle Mclaughlin in addition to the rest. It's a rough ride but interesting.Kravitz did great for a first time job.

    Finally saw it yesterday. A lot of noticeable things that make the film downright bad. I’ll start with Kevin Hart, he has no acting range. That’s just the truth. I thought Cate Blanchett was in it for a paycheck. The opening scene was abysmal in every way and rips off Star Wars. The ONLY positive about Borderlands’ is Claptrap. He was actually fun and had the best lines.

    I saw this in 94. It's very good, based on a comic book, so it's probably the actual first good comic adaptation. The previous year in 93, there was a biopic on Bruce Lee called Dragon, that had a scene where his wife has a baby. She mentions naming him Brandon and that drew gasps from the crowd, he was killed less than a month earlier and it was pretty fresh on everyone's mind.

    I’ll be honest, I have not seen the other Alien movies, so I did not experience some of those negatives you pointed out. However I think this movie was very good as a stand alone movie. I don’t think I have any negative things to say about it. I agree with your positive about the intelligence level of the Aliens. For me I think I may have benefited from not having seen the other movies. I had no idea how intelligent they were until Andy pointed out that it was waiting for them to open the door. That made them much more terrifying for me. Another positive I had was the intelligence of all the other characters as well. Not only did they not make stupid decisions, but they also made some pretty clever decisions, including the moment Rain turned on the zero gravity switch so she could shoot the aliens while preventing the xenomorph blood from eating away at the spaceship. That whole scene was pretty cool. I enjoyed this movie a lot. It has cracked my top 10 of the year at #9! There are still several movies I have left to see in August, and I’m super excited! Do you have plans to watch “It Ends With Us?”

    2013 Evil dead was super good watched it last year for the first time. Anyway was so surprised how good it was considering the last 2 films weren't as good.. I thought the characters made smart choices pretty much through out so will disagree with you on that last 15 min was crazy that alien human hybrid thing was a crazy monster. And a scene to me that was probably the dumbest was the elevator scene when Rain was falling down the shaft I'm like oh no is this actually the end of her no way she's getting out of this one then a xenomorph catches her with its tail. That just didn't make sense to me. What was the line you are talking about? And still loving the longer content keep it up.

    I went into this movie completely blind. I saw a trailer for it in the theatre and that’s about it. I didn’t even know Cuckoo was a bird. I think this partly played a role in why I did not enjoy this movie. Maybe knowing what I know now, I would enjoy it more on a second viewing. The biggest reason why I did not enjoy this movie though was because of how slow the pacing felt. It felt like there was way too much dialogue in the beginning without enough plot building and scares. The bike scene was ok, but there was not enough of that throughout the beginning of the film, and when they revealed the cuckoo woman at the end it was even less scary. In terms of the story, I think if they gave us small pieces of information about the plot throughout the film, it would have been better. Like you said, there was way too much connecting of the dots, which detracted a lot from my enjoyment of the film. Unfortunately I was just left confused and dissatisfied at the end.

    • @michael_weer
      @michael_weer 15 днів тому

      I felt a lot of this! (Especially the reveal of the cuckoo woman. I left it out of my review because I didn’t want to spoils things) But that’s definitely a negative that I have on the movie. She was scary at first when you saw her in shadows or in a glimpse in the car but once you get a full look at her, they didn’t do a great job making her look monstrous. I thought the last act actually was the best portion of this movie, but I’m not sure what that says about the first 2 acts. I want to love this movie but ultimately, I think I liked it.

  • @A_YouTube_Commenter
    @A_YouTube_Commenter 15 днів тому

    I liked it, but it's definitely a weird one. My gripe with the plot is that Rachel's parents at some point disappeared in the movie and we never see them again. We never know how "involved" they are with the happenings there. There's symbolic things going on with mankind discovering something new, how some want to exploit it and others want to destroy it. It reminds me a little of " A Cure For Wellness" where the entire facility is not what it appears to be. Some heartfelt moments with the younger sister and the answering machine. I enjoyed the ride, but not sure if I could explain it entirely.

    I love these types of movies my favorite genre of horror I call it "Mind F*ck Horror" because it keeps you confused through out the whole movie. Anyway Hunter Schafer killed it in this one her acting style is so unique was perfect for this role. One Negative for me that did bother me through out the entire movie was that the dad seemed to only really care about the younger sister. For example Gretchen was in that car accident and Gretchen wanted him to stay the night because she was scared or whatever but he said no I have to go see you sister the mother was with the sister no chance a parent would leave a 17 year old child in a hospital right after a major car accident. And one more negative who was the random stranger the she decided to make out with and run away with unless i missed something that just didn't add up.

She seems to follow a familiar trope where characters dealing with trauma are portrayed as withdrawn and silent, making them appear one-dimensional. This is why I appreciate Wade Wilson in Deadpool; despite his past, he remains lively and complex, offering a refreshing take on how trauma can be portrayed.

    It indeed has incoherent scenes, but remember there's a very emotional component when the butcher is arrested. It's difficult for Riley to figure out as he was such a nice father and husband. It hurts to realize who your dad really is and what he has done and I think that's why Lady Raven mentioned she forgave her father during the concert. She knew that the man, the butcher, could be there at the concert with his daughter.

    • @michael_weer

      My issue was not with Riley, wanting to hug her dad as he was being taken away. My issue was the fact that the police let her hug him when he was such a dangerous criminal. Just like them, letting him bend down and fix the bike because he had OCD . No way they would let him do that. And the fact that they went for non-lethal shots in the house when just two scenes before that with the limo had gone for lethal shots on the street, surrounded by people. 🤯 I really wanted to enjoy this movie and the first half really worked for me . I love the cat and mouse game between him and the police. But the back half of that film needed more work. Too many inconsistencies and plot holes for me.

    It's an odd one. I loved the scenery at the resort. I thought on it a bit and it's about familial bonds. The lead was a rebellious teenager missing her mother and not getting along with her sister. Not to get into spoilers but she ends up having to choose between the detective helping her and the owner of the resort, but takes an unexpected move. It was fairly original and had some great scares. That bike scene made me jump.

    I never saw the original (will wait for 4K) so this was pretty damn solid. At first I thought the boyfriend was in on it, with the weird first person camera angle of him (from her perspective) trying to convince her the painting spooked her. Some things that bothered me: *He drops his inhaler after crawling out of the house and it never becomes an issue later on, right? Weird. *Also, when he got blindsided by sack boy, there's no way he could have not heard him coming. I hope they don't go the obvious route and make the townsfolk as the baddies. I hope it's all a big fake out. It's now almost mid August and they are running out of time to release chapter 2 this year. Marketing has been pretty quiet, no? My guess is early December. That's usually a dead spot leading up to Christmas break. Unless they go the streaming subscription route.

    I have a lot to say about this movie. For the same reasons as you mentioned, I was also enjoying the movie quite a bit up until they escaped the venue. Silly is the perfect word for the way the movie ended. It wasn’t just the incompetence of the cops, Cooper was also borderline teleportational in some of those escape scenes, in particular the scene where he somehow got dressed in full SWAT clothes and made his way to the driver’s seat of the limo. And immediately after that he seemed to teleport out of the limo and out of the SWAT clothing and into a hoodie. Throughout the entire movie I was wondering how it would end, and for some reason I had a feeling that it wasn’t going to end in a satisfying way for me no matter what. Even Cooper just being arrested at his house without all the other silly stuff would be way too anticlimactic for me. They didn’t develop Cooper’s character in a way that made me dislike him . Showing His prisoner Spencer on the phone wasn’t really enough for me. Maybe if they showed Spencer bloody and in a state of agony, like he was being tortured, it would have worked for me. As a result, I found myself liking him and oddly rooting for his escape. I think if they added some actual bloody kills in the movie, it would have made his capture at the end much more satisfying, even if his it was prolonged by his unrealistic escape scenes. One scene where a kill would have worked for me would have been when he was alone with the merch guy Jamie. I was expecting cooper to either kill him or at least knock him out. Btw, the moment in that scene when Jamie asked Cooper to hold the box cutter was pretty funny. There were a lot more super ironic lines like that throughout the movie that I enjoyed. I’m curious what you think the ending should have been.

    • @michael_weer
      @michael_weer 20 днів тому

      I think a better ending would have been to keep it in the arena. Have the venue very slowly cleared out. Ramping up the tension with the police/fbi getting closer and closer to him. No reason for him to announce himself to Lady Raven at all. I would have had a lot more of a cat and mouse game between him and the profiler. Have him keep her on her toes going against what a psycho would do. Also I agree more death, blood throughout would have been fun. Also they could have restructured this flick completely and kept the secret of Cooper being the killer and have bodies start showing up around the arena. Hinting at him but also leaving the possibility that he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

    I am glad you made a longer video on this one, The trailer framed the story better than the film. You see him as the killer BEFORE you find out the concert is a trap for one. In the movie you see him looking at his phone at his victim before the reveal.The suspense is strong until that last act. Once he went to Lady Raven's room backstage, it collapsed hard. I recommend, it but it doesn't finish strong. Positives: I loved the cast. Everyone delivered and Josh Hartnett is awesome. M Night's daughter was pretty good as a singer as well.
