Like all development plans - if overly concentrated and not well planned and managed locally, then yes, there are environmental issues. Keep the project locally owned and operated instead of owned and managed by multinational giants, then proper management can happen. Furthermore, the benefits such as employment and reduced energy costs benefit locals. It all comes back to the political will of the powers that be.

Great work in highlighting another side to this debate that is usually shut down by the "Renewable Energy (RE) only at any cost" brigade. At Responsible Energy Development for New England (ReD4NE), we are trying to inform our community on all the facts, provide a balance to the arguments (cost/benefits) and that what ever your stance on RE, covering our landscape with intermittent wind turbines, solar panels batteries,,connecting roads and new transmission lines is not going to give us reliable, cheap power. This relentless, unplanned and poorly executed push to an unachievable decarbonision (NetZero) target is reckless and only serves to put unnecessary pressure on our communities, our livelihoods, our food and fiber production capacity, and our endangered species habitats. As a local in this area, it will be the 3rd wind turbine farm surrounding the small township of Ravenshoe. Unfortunately the green energy lie will turn this area into an industrial wasteland. How can our Environment minister even consider a Korean owned company such as Ark Energy destroy such beautiful untouched forest for this.

This senator is st war with " Industry Super Funds " . This man needs to explain why he is against these highest performing products in the super industry . Is he thick or is there a CONFLICT OF INTEREST ?? What is his links to banks and finance companies ? Went straight to a lobbying position with the Timor sea gas miner . With in days of his resignation. Turns up as a lobbyist for the gas company to meet the Timor President Xanana Gusmao . Gusmao assumed effing Downer was there in capacity of foreign minister. When it dawned on the president that predator Downing was there in lobbying capacity , He rightly screamed blue murder . Now we have whistle blowers and journalists gagged to save Downer over his bugging of the Timor parliament to get advantage on the Timor sea gas negotiations. I am Australian . I am ashamed of these treacherous greasy predatory politicians. It is also all sides of politics . Remember the bigger betrayal by Gough Whitlam giving the rubber stamp to Indonesia invading East Timor and the hundreds of thousands that died there as a direct result .
