【Welcome to Thomas Net World!】
Hi, I am Thomas from Vancouver, Canada. Starting in Summer 2017, I want to try to make walk-through videos on older cars (late 80's to mid-2000's), and go over some special features, and pros&cons of the time. Recently (as of summer 2020), I have also shifted to car products overviews. Thank you for visiting. Enjoy.

Nordman WR All-Weather Tires in SNOW: Pt. 2 / 2 (Westwood Plateau)
February 13, 2021: 1st snowfall in Vancouver BC. I take my 2003 Toyota Matrix XRS (FWD) for spin to test out my Nordman WR All-Weather tires.
In part 2 of this series, I take my car up Westwood Plateau, to see how my Matrix with All-Weather tires, would fare against my friend's Chevy Bolt EV with studded winter tires.
Special thanks to Eric and Daniel for capturing the exterior footage!

AUKEE LED Headlight Kit - 2nd Generation: Improved!
Переглядів 7 тис.3 роки тому
I bought some 2nd generation AUKEE LED headlight bulbs (9003/H4) for my brother's 1997 Honda CRV, as Christmas present. This new generation of bulbs were released just earlier this month (Dec 2020); improved build quality... and now fan-less with a smaller heat sink than my BEAMTECH LEDs! BEAMTECH LEDs vs Night Breaker Laser Halogens

3 months ago, I upgraded my old Sylvania headlight bulbs to some premium halogens; OSRAM Night Breaker Lasers. They were better, but still not the brightness I desired. Today, I compare them with these BEAMTECH fan-less LEDs. Who will shine brighter? Let's see!

Nordman WR All-weather Tires: Just as good as Nokian?

Michelin X-ice Xi3 Winter Tires: Used... but still good at 4/32"?
Переглядів 4,7 тис.4 роки тому
This past February, I needed some winter tires for my 2003 Toyota Matrix XRS, but was on a budget. After some thorough research, I found some journalists say the Michelin X-Ice Xi3 tires still perform well when worn to 4/32". Most tires would be replaced at this stage. I wanted to test them out for myself in some snow, and found a set with 4/32" tread left. I put them on my Matrix and this was ...
My 2003 Toyota Matrix XRS Automatic - Pros & Cons

Been 2 years since my last video on my Celica GTS! In that time, I've sold it and owned this Matrix XRS Auto for the last year. It's been a great upgrade for me; giving me more passenger and cargo room, as well as a comfortable ride... all while keeping that same great Celica powertrain. After a year of ownership, I made to video to share some of my Pros and Cons of this underrated sporty hatch...
My 2001 Toyota Celica GTS Automatic - Walkthrough
Переглядів 39 тис.7 років тому
I have been the proud owner of this 2001 Toyota Celica GTS for the past 5 years. Today, it will be the subject for my first UA-cam video. Enjoy!
Fun car I have a 2006 Manuel 6 speed.
U got conned it automatic xrs should be manual it a racing engine
I also managed to find a set of 4x Nordman solstice tires off of facebook market for $265. The manufacturing date on it is 0622 (Feb 2022). The original owner said his 2002 civic died so he ended up junking the car and salvaging the tires that he was only able to use for less than 6 months. I basically hit the jackpot and got nearly brand new tires for 1/3 of msrp and it came with rims for a Honda civic that I'll probably end up selling to recoup the costs lol. The tires will end up going on to my toyota prius prime for next year's winter since this year's snow is most likely over.
Thanks for the review Vancouverite also. How does your brother liking them. Think I might get them also for myself
From my understanding, the GT trims from 2000 to 2002 could potentially burn oil, but the GTS trim didn't have that issue? Or am I wrong?
Thank God you covered the plate
It should have electric remote control locking key.
the butt quite spacious
Now I can finally see how the M-Mode is supposed to work. I just recently bought a used 2000 GT-S, though the only difference is the automatic shifter gate does not have the indent to the left of the stick. Also feels like the stick does not shift over to the left, and I'm not entirely sure why. If anyone knows how to fix this, or what may be wrong, please respond.
I didnt even know they made these in auto that's crazy
I had the Wr’s and was very happy . Kal tires told me they didn’t have them any more and I had to get the Solstice. I am not as happy with them . They are loud. , but they are good in snow.
Good to know. Thank you!
So why this car over a corolla? Do you need the space in back? These are same price as corolla but corolla has better gas mileage and all around better car.
very helpful! are you at mountainwood? your storage looks exactly like mountainwood's!
nice test! i just put on a set of nordman solstice all weather tires on my suv, i will see how well they do in the upcoming winter, your matrix did very well considering the road conditions
Thank you! Yes. Let me know how the Solstice tires performed.
@@thomasnetworld They have performed okay, I put them on my 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara, which is in fulltime 4WD, previously I had the original all season tires on it; I must say that I completely agree with Canadian 123's comment below, I should put on dedicated winter tires, however, I only want one set of tires, with that said, these tires are poor on ice, good in snow, they seem a bit loud on the pavement, especially when cold, however, you can't beat the price on these all weather tires; over all I am okay happy with them.
Love mine
Here is what I have learned about All-Weather tires: They are supposed to be used for people who live in areas that usually have green grass on their lawns MOST of the winter, and only occasionally get some snowfall on the roads. If you live in an area where your grass is covered with snow during the winter months then All-Weather tires are not for you and you need to get Winter tires instead. Vancouver usually has green grass in the winter, so All-weather tires are perfect for Vancouver.
I agree completely.
If you live in an apartment, and you only have one small little storage cubicle like those shown in this video, you either buy 'all-weather' tires for your car, or you keep the second set of winter tires on the balcony of the apartment.
Ur car did pretty well , had u had awd i imagine id be alot better.. Also studs on dedicated winter is not a fair comparison to all weather tires. Id say all weather is a good all round tire like grade b for every condition while a snow tire with studs is a a+ for snow /ice and a f for just about every other type of weather.
Im getting all weathers put on my car but will keep a cheap set of snow chains in the suv just in case
Thank you! Yes, absolutely. I think these all weather tires are sufficient for most of Vancouverites who drive around the city.
Dear brother, the spare parts of RXS are same as XR and Base ? thanks
The engines aren't the same.
Can you do a video driving it? An acceleration video? Do you ever use lift in the Matrix? Ever go over 6000 rpm in it? There are NO videos of the 2ZZ automatic XRS driving, no reviews on it, no official 0-60 times on it, nothing!
ua-cam.com/video/1-DepQVB0XE/v-deo.html This video comes close to anything with acceleration with the Matrix specs.
@@tonystark701 that's not an automatic. -There are plenty of manual 6-speed XRS lift videos, but none of the -*-automatic-*- XRS- EDIT: I just found one now: ua-cam.com/video/jqtxAnHe6qo/v-deo.html
I like your Doraemon :)
@thomasnetworld - A couple of comments mention WR G2 and WR G4. Are they different than the Nordman WR All weather that you bought? I was hoping to get Nordman Soltice (apparently the updated WR, but I can only find them in stock in at Kal Tires Kingston. I'm looking for Toronto).
The WR G2 are now the Nordman, which Nokian now call ' budget' tire. I have the Nordman WR SUV on a 2017 Mitsubishi RVR AWC and here in Victoria they are perfect. Handle all the winter rain with ease, and when we get snow such as today '30cm of heavy wet Snow ' I go through it with ease. After 13,500km they are wearing nicely. Highly recommend.
@@GPz84 thanks for the reply! I did get the Nordman WR's and I too have been happy with them in rain. No real snow yet in Toronto though - but good to hear you're happy. And wow 30 cm in Victoria.
@@tahiramm9925 30cm buds, shut the city down for the day! Back home in Halifax we laugh at 30cm! Drive safe.
@@GPz84 Well 30 cm is a lot, but I hear you - I'm from Wpg :) Thanks, you too.
If you're attempting to provide a good review of these tires, you probably shouldn't be using the word, "infamous", which means that something (or someone) is well-known for bad qualities or behavior. Maybe check your vocabulary.
thank you for the information, but please stop slapping your knee.
why are they so-called "infamous"?
Nordman WR same as Nordman Solstice?
Did you ever find the answer to this?
@@oilerguy5494 They are indeed different. WR and Solstice is two different tire model, I got mine is WR
I think they are Nokian WRG4 not Nordman. Nordman is a subsidiary of Nokian
These Nordman WR tires are similar (or maybe even identical) to the older Nokian WRG2.
I am pretty sure that Nordman is the previous version of WRG3 Nokian. I think they are affiliated companies. I bought a set of Nordman Solstice and they were very good. A bit cheaper than WRG4, but worth it.
I love this car trust me

Wrong, I have a 2005 and it has the lip and rear diffuser. And the xrs didn't only come in automatic in 2003.
yup, i got a 2003 manual
This is 10 months old, but you're wrong. The 2003 model XRS did come in automatic.
@@edwardwieland7749 I clearly said it came in automatic.
Great video.
Is it a good car
You can use the boot if you pull it out ( not inverted but expanded ). I'm going to try putting this on as my low beams and the 18000lm as my high beams
Thank you for the tip!
I just drove through 6 inches of snow in Ottawa the other day on a set of 5year old X ice 3 tires,. no problem at all. Have also driven in some really bad freezing rain as well with no issues. good tires!
What tread depth? Since years don't matter if the tread is close to new tire tread. My dad's CR-V winter tire lasted 7 years and still had 7/32" left but its dry rotting. While winter tire I got in 2019 (new) for my Veloster is now 6/32".
@@W0LV1E45 I dont know the tread depth off hand but they are about 50% worn. I do keep an eye out for cracking between the treads and at the rim, this is a sighn of a tire getting dangerous. They say you should not drive on tires that are older then 7 years old. I also ride a motorcycle in the summer so I am very fussy and awear about tire condition.
EDIT: 3:45: When comparing the LEDs vs Halogens beam pattern, my brother accidentally had the high beams turned ON, when running the DRLs. Therefore the beam was much higher than the low beams.
Beamtech led is not useful in moonsoon or winter, you need halogen bulb only
Yes. In the heavy rain, and snow, the white light can be troublesome.
Not one actual test 😂
@thomasnetworld how many season did he have them tucked away, tire safety degrades after 6 years of age sitting or not
thanks! the manufacture date is 6th week 2017... so should be good.
@@thomasnetworld that is perfect for 1/3 the price!
Interesting vid, thanks! I find myself in the same position and this helped make the decision.
Glad it helped!
Very 👌 nice, bought a new set September 2019, i3, at GM dealers coat minus rebate used tires are all but memory, 15" mini van size $250 OTD
They are Nokian. It's not a copy. They are the old WR G2.
Not the best tires for summer driving but in return don't have to keep 2 sets of tires. Can get away in winter in Toronto but if you drive in Alberta or Saskatchewan better have proper winter tires.
Perfect tires for here in Victoria BC.
Michelin was having a comparison with their X ice versus the wr g4 in finland at the winter test track and they held up almost as good. I think you can get away with them.
@@chrisragona3945 Do you know if the Nordman WR is the same tire as the WR G4?
I've used a set of Nordman all weather tires for the past six years, here in Winnipeg. In winter they grip the road better than the Cooper all season tires I had before. The Nordmans need to be replaced now after about 50,000 km, but I plan to buy the same tire again. I think they are good value, because they work reasonably well in our very cold Manitoba winters, yet don't need to be changed in summer. The rubber is soft, and they do wear faster than ordinary summer tires, but that;s fine.
Does anyone’s get hot under the steering wheel when driving?
Sometimes, on hot summer days after keeping it in 2nd gear to long to pass another car.
Very informative.
Do celica aut gts come turbo ?
Generally, I'm a GM person, most likely I'm a Chevy person, but I think buying a 2001 Toyota Celica is ok. Also, driving the 2001 Toyota Celica is like driving a Japanese Ford Mustang.
That's more likely a Lexus soarer with the v8 what planet did you just get in from?
@@crogunson4784 This is Earth, genius
@@X-JAKA7 lmao did you just compare a celica to a mustang and not the lexus v8?
@@timbren2809 Yes
It’s quite accurate because the Celica was inspired by the Mustang, true story. They wanted a Japanese Mustang when American cars weren’t affordable for Japanese folks back in the 70s when Japan was still developing as a country, hence the smaller Mustang as a Celica. A piece of history. 🎩
I have a 2004 base model Matrix with the 5spd myself, and I think that the Matrix / Vibe was the best hatchback car ever built. More interior space and more reliable than basically any other hatch made in that era. :D
basically a subaru forester but as a toyota.
Is there really any difference in reliability and fuel economy between this and the Sedan Corolla?
@@EMENIKEP Reliability no. Fuel economy the sedan might be slightly better.
I bought a 00 Celica gts auto. It has no sunroof :( but it has 140k miles. Got it for 1700$.
Nice! Strange tho... thought all GTS's came with sunroof as standard.
I'm thinking of getting the XR '03. I'm kinda worried about how it would deal with all the potholes from the winter time in my area being that it's so low.
Did you ever buy one? I'm in the market for one now myself, but they seem very low and these cold WI winters might truly challenge it...
