Howler monkey rescue at Lapa Rios

We found this smalle male baby monkey who must have fallen of its mother´s back and sent it to a Sanctuary close to Lapa Rios Ecolodge.

Monkeys on the new roofs

Our new plastic suitta roofs have past the test. At least our white-face monkey friends thought they were definitely thrust worthy and apparently it´s no problem that they´re not a natural bridge, the roofs will be well used anyway!
Puma spotted at Lapa Rios

On one of the trails of the property, our guide Guillermo spotted this healthy looking puma last Saturday. She has been wondering around, woohoo!!
Is it common in New World monkeys that they wont come down for fallen baby? Old World monkeys like macaques will usually immediately go after fallen baby. Or is it because Howler is 100% arboreal?

It was more than likely dying as you were filming this video as there was a good bit of blood in it's mouth and with a fall from a tree as far up as those things go it probably didn't survive for long.

Theirs blood in his mouth and he may have internal injuries. He appears to be in a lot of pain. Hope this baby survived.

Jo Crook Actually due to the blanket it gets comforts solely from that, though it can get some more comfort I'd have to agree with Joseph, yes it's going to have to be touched and held anyway but you have to be careful because even slight movements can possibly hurt it (If it has internal injuries) and if not you never know, they probably gave it love and attention after being off of the camera or before being filmed but stopped for the camera just for a moment to show it. The video was literally one minute. Get a grip.

So do you think they are going to put him on a spinal board or what wig his possible spinal and/or internal injuries?? Geez....there are some pretty obvious signs of both internal and spinal injuries that they would notice upon picking him up and moving him around....they are not going to avoid picking him up because of those possibilities if he is not showing any symptoms that would lead them to believe that had occurred. They are just going to handle him carefully and gently as they prepare him and then send him to the sanctuary.I am sure that they will provide him with everything that is necessary to ensure his health, safety and comfort.
That's a youngen. Wouldn't be surprised if his Mom was somewhere nearby.
