I watched him in 97’ on a KX60. Told my friend that day this kid was something special. I was raised in MX as my mom’s brother, my uncle was factory pro Furman Gray. I watched many greats like Hannah, Smith, Tony D, Lackey, Barnett and many more as I grew up. When I saw James on a 60 do what he was doing, I was left with my mouth hanging wide open. RC, Stewart and Travis were special riders.

I miss watching Carmichael race. Dude was always pinned wide open when everyone else was off the throttle or braking. In 2001 on the Kx 250 he rode that thing unbelievably hard was a joy to watch. Jett and the new guys just aren’t exciting to watch in my opinion. 4 strokes just killed the excitement.

I went to Loretta’s in 05. Right when four strokes took over. Moto just hasn’t been the same since two strokes. The sound the smell everything is what got me into moto as a kid. I’ve been semi enjoying moto off and on for 15 years never gelled with the fart bikes nor the no powerband and tractor type feel. Oh well it was fun while it lasted ✊

That's the Ricky I remember especially one year I was lucky enough to go to amateur National in Lake Whitney Texas and he dominated Travis Pastrana did as well he was couple years younger and Charlie Bogart broke his leg that year I think it was 93 or 94

Man I remember being there in 2000 just like it happened yesterday. It’s heartbreaking to think back on those days and to think just how far we have all come from the good ole days as I like to remember them. That was back when My dad was alive and still raising me , which I honestly miss being a son accountable to my father lol. I just wanna go back to the days where my dad told me when to be home on fri night and what time the grass must be cut by if I want to go racing the next day .

i was there. he was 1-1/2 seconds a lap slower than the 250A class. For those who aren't familiar with classes, 250A is highest, fastest class before turning PRO. Ricky was a lil rocket. Eat your heart out Motley Crue!!
