Awesome downwind Kai Wa’a Maliko Race 2022
This was probably the best OC race since the pandemic started. An amazing number of OC-1 / OC-2 and surfskis came for the famous Maliko downwinder. We had awesome conditions, windy, lots of bumps, good weather, happy people. The conditions was perfect - challenging but not out of control, so everyone could have fun.
There is a blank space at the end of the video - for the Eggers Ohana, and for all the friends and family we loose both inside and outside of the canoe, and for all the people who sacrifice their lives to protect ours - a small space and time to remember and celebrate their lives.

These have a rudder, but no skeg
How good is it to get those 1,2 or even 300 meter runs on a wave!? A surfer will always out-run a more experienced kayaker because they know when to put in those hard strokes to get that run!
Isn't it the way every day? Get out there and have some fun, whether you've been training or not. Let's get this going despite the set-backs! Imua! It's "dead as a door nail" because those nails are bent over not to move again. It's awesome you got to do this together. One to remember all your life. Makes me want to get out on live water like this. So beautiful pictures of the waters I see so rarely now.

In my part of the world, (Dana Point, CA), conditions like that would result in cancellation of the event! This is pretty hard core paddling! It looks like a ton of fun, but I think it is still out of my league.

Why is there no Volare been paddled nearly all Ares?
Probably more Kai Wa'a canoes in Maui. Some Pueo riders switched to the Ares Pro. Best to try different canoes for your local conditions and see which suits your style better. Here in Maui the Kai Wa'a canoes seam to be more popular.

Whats the learning curve from oc1 to surf ski? Or how long of a curve?
Wow, I just watched this video again for the seventh time! I would love to paddle in Hawaii. I have had my Vega for 11 months and every paddle it just gets better (maybe because I/m slowly improving, LOL). The Vega is great in the ocean bumps and in the flats. If you are in the market for a new boat you need to try the Vega. #kaiwaastrong

What are those antenas, at Ama and canoe for?
Not antennas, they are vents that allow the inside of the hulls to change pressure without letting water in.
