Kinda unrelated to the video but how do you feel after changing from ATC to PMC now?
I have the WA8000 - Summit Audio 2ba - WA1b. This chain works perfect for Rappers And Singers… Sounds high end without the price tag …. My interface is SSL12
I have one sub and only use it when it's necessary. I think people believe it's suppose to be on full blast all the time or while mixing. It's a must for me because, it clarifies the really low frequencies that can't be heard but felt. I like Bobby Owsinski saying, "Come On People It's Not Rocket Science". As always, with Practice, Patience and Determination, Your Experience will improve over time.
@@rusj5273 I totally agree! Well said and also a good approach to incorporating sub workflow 🙏
Question what should your output be on the neve or bae 1073 to get the best out your preamp anyone know should it be at 🕛 or maxed out ?
There’s usually a little unity line and I just kept it there on my units! Turning up the output is for clean gain or tuning down the output is for being able to push the preamp harder for extra character! Hope this helps 🙏
@ thank you for your response I appreciate that is there a way I can send you a photo on Instagram I see a thick white line that’s not little I was recording with it maxed out and the red knob at 35
Do you have any thoughts on Ferrofish? a32 pro specifically? I hear good things about ferrofish but it’s hard to find any comparisons or opinions vs other gear
BAM!!!! big ass tube tech on the desk with what looks like a neve channel strip / interface. Nice raw naked type setup ..not much in the way
@@DGGZ-EFX yesssirrrrr 🫡 🙏 I find it easier to work with a simple desk setup now for sure, the big studio desks cause me so many problems 😪
I implore you all to read a book and do your own research. This guy is saying get stereo subs for a mono signal. Smh
@@goseason2343 Subs are stereo unless you sum to mono. No cappin round here
@ name a song with stereo subs?
@ just play a sub synth in your daw, take a utility plugin or eq and isolate the sides/mute the center. Just cause subs aren’t panned doesn’t mean they are always mono. Just cause vocals are recorded in mono and mixed in the middle a lot of the time does mean you should be mixing on just one speaker. It’s not about hearing if songs are summed to mono or not, it’s about having a continuous and reliable playback system to approach mixing anything in mono and stereo. Just google it or something bro
@@RAYNETHESAVIOUR Of course sound can reach stereo but no one keeps anything stereo in the sub area of any mix. Including Reese basses and such. That’s why I asked name a “song” because the final mix is what matters. Not if a sound can be stereo in the sub.
@ I think you’re missing the point bro, Google some major studios. This isn’t a me thing, it’s just a standard for pro studios to prioritize playback and balance. Even check out UA-camrs like streaky to see his dual sub setup. Thats all I can say man, otherwise just hit up google for some more answers.
Subs will destroy your mixes if you don't know what you're doing. It's best to get an 8" monitor instead, but in 2024 technology has come a long way and now we have subs and monitors with DSP, which are a real game changer (Neumann, Genelec, Hedd, etc)
Before i watch, i totally agree from the headline
@@xvnvs8673 🙏 hope it helps bro
Did you try 'AES3' instead of 'S/PDIF' in the DO1/2 strip of the Outputs tab in Lyra2? Dang I am planning to get PMC 6-2, and it doesn't work perfectly?
I like your Videos Straight to the Point. what i Learned in my 15 years recording journey. a Beginner will focus more on Plugs, hardware, youtube reviews. Intermediate will focus less on all these. A Pro will focus on More Technique, Ears , Proper Gain staging, Good Preamp . a 251 in hands of Beginner may not yield best results but Shure SM7b in hands of Pro will make Big Difference. But Agree with you Shure SM7B is bullet Proof Mic even in Bad Room. Thanks for your Honest review.. UA-cam is full of Fake Reviewers for their benefits.
Thank you very much for taking the time to write this Tej, I definitely agree that there are obvious differences between new kids on the block and more experienced individuals. The SM7 is definitely a bullet proof method of achieving great results as a new recording artist or engineers 🙏 thanks for the kind words and for tuning in!
More important than all that is having good ears to reference your system to learn it, and sub placement. I jus know majority ppl place their sub wrong. More than likely under their desk and next to them, with no shock abservers under it. Bass needs room to travel. Another important aspect is rather the sub is sealed or ported..
I should call you before dropping these videos 😂 these are all facts here folks, thanks bro for the additional info 🙏
I’m a blind audio engineer who is just getting started I’m currently using the Calli audio I N5 with the WS 12 subwoofer
Congratulations on the purchases, I hope you enjoy the new buy! 🙏
I think it is important to mention measurements when talking about integrating a sub. After working live event audio i learned about software like smaart and open sound meter. Worked wonders on my studio. Being able to align phase between sub and mains is essential. Aswell as creating a nice crossover curve. Rew aswell for understanding how your room sounds. The waterfall curve was mindblowing to me.
Absolutely agree! Measurements are a game changer when it comes to subs and dsp certainly helps! Thanks for pointing this out bro 🙏
Which do you find work well for studio calibration? Just curious... I like to try multiple Calibration and see how they differ. Thanks
hello man what are your bass traps if you have any ??? where can i find a good bass trap one that's effective please ???
You have to measure your room with a measurement microphone to understand what problems you are dealing with. Best general solution is roxul safe n sound or equivalent around the room as general treatment2-6in. Extra thick in the corners, if you go above 8 inchs start using pink fluffy insulation R30 unfaced. You will get great results as far as low end tightness and resolution. Room dimensions play a factor. If you have a huge resonant peak in ur room the only “practical” solution may be a limp mass absorber. From what i understand they are based on a resonant front membrane that absorbs very efficiently at a higher q. This could help if you have a square room take care of a huge peak but you will need 8-10 devices.
Bass Management, DSP Subs and a decent room can be awesome. Bass isn't directional and the DSP program with your total system should guide you as to where to put and how to use your sub properly. A good sub only plays the program content that's in your content and nothing else and certainly doesn't create any unwanted frequencies.
This is very true, I almost forgot all about DSP subs! Thanks for touching on this bro 🙏
Hey! Love this vid. Personally going thru a bit of a rut myself and i'm just tryna take it one step at a time. I've been trying to find you on ig! Also would love to hear some of your work and songs you've done too!

I have to share that I had a poor experience with warm audio’s repairs. They didn’t fix my microphone’s problem and then after having to send it in to them the second time, they didn’t send it back to me with a signature request. My mic got stolen and then they said they weren’t liable. Luckily I have renter’s insurance that covered me, but it didn’t cover the full cost of the mic and the replacement tube and all the money I spent on shipping costs. I’d recommend buying through Sweetwater. I’ve heard they’re a lot better when it comes to customer service. Even so, it’s very hard for me to recommend getting warm audio gear. I’ve had the wa-273 preamps (you can feel that the build quality isn’t there) and the wa-47 mic. The mic feels built well, but even then I had crazy noise coming from it. Great review though. On a budget, I get why warm audio is an option. Honestly though, if you can save or finance a better quality mic, you’ll be spending so much less in the long run. Ended up getting the Telefunken TF-47. It sounds better. It’s built way better and I trust the brand will take care of me if anything fails.
Barefoot Microstack 45 does it best as far as monitor/sub combos goes
Thank you Mr Rayne That is a very instructive and interesting topic you touched on now... i v got an apollo x4 and a pair of hs7 ??? i love them cause i got accustomed to it The other day i was watching another well famous producer 's content on yt and i swear to god he was coming at this specific pair of speakers telling people how bad they were and how one shouldn't even consider buying them , "cause he don't want us making the same mistake as him" And i find it very curious that he was telling us how bad they were , is precisely how to take advantage of them speakers just how you just explained or demonstrated if i dare on this episode... From my gut i feel you are the truth because all of your saying is what i feel and how i envision sound now that i think about it ,never really took the time to understand it for myself but hearing you thinking about it make me realize how much we re on the same page , i must not be on your level of expertise but i can feel everything that you saying because you prove your point by making logical statements instead of saying oh man those are trash without even mentionning what should one shoot for ... i don't know about others but what i m gonna do from now on is pairing my hs 7 with my x4 and just produce this way and i m shure it will pay/// i thank you from the bottom of my heart just for beeing you (i just shot you an email) take care
I had this mic and loved it. When it worked. After 2 replacements i just couldn’t do it anymore. Not gonna lie though. This vid just made me think of giving another try
It was worth it for me so far, this one I got been holding it down for a few years now and will keep working for years to come 👌
There are many paths to the same place.

That sucks you were still on a waitlist for the price increase. If you need a GC Pro rep to get you past the waitlists faster, let me know. I can introduce you to my guy. He told me he had access to 3 C800s in October and I bought one immediately. It shipped out in 24 hours and the price went up 2 days after I got the mic.
@@MakePopMusic oh wow, that’s crazy man I’m happy for you! Perfect timing! Honestly I’m probably gonna put down for an ELAM soon but I’ll have to see how long I can go without forking out for a Sony. I’ll definitely keep this in mind bro thank you 🙏
i am really wondering if there is a difference between the bae mpl 500 version without eq and the actual bae 1073 strip with eq. that low mid dense resonance that i loved opposed to the ams, will it be present with the mpl version? what do you think? my thought that leads me to the question is that the topology in combination with the eq circuit may also have contribution to the density.
not gonna lie, i tried a real CL1B on some vocals and compared it to some vocals i ran through a dbx 560 and i preferred the sound on the 560

I know it doesn't matter what kind of Microphone it is, as long as it sounds good with the source material. $5000 price increase?!?!? They must be high as hell!!! LOL. Granted quality cost money but, you can get a way better setup with that $15000. I'd rather Build a Modded Microphone that will be way cheaper and more versatile than that. Not gonna lie, if I had lots of money it would be in my mic locker as well. Thanks for the Video.
@@rusj5273 having great modded gear is really dope and definitely can be so worth it (knowing the right experts helps!). They today pushed it wayyy too hard with the price jump though! Thanks for tuning in 🙏
Sooo many forget that those mics where built in a time when analog tape was still around, and hiting tape compression with that extra topend and then being compressed is what contributed to the so called “ silky “ sound. Other mics in that category be AKG c12 or ELAM 251…
A cheap microphone with all that great processing gear will sound just as good as that other microphone. A good mic does not need to cost $15,000. You’re crazy. Now a good song, different story.
You are right, a song is more than just the mic and even a great mic can only go so far!🙏

The RME is stellar! if you record regularly or want to monitor in the highest quality (speakers and headphones), I'd say you need one. This AD/DA conversion is way better than what you get with interfaces. And I mean in comparison with high level interfaces, not the cheaper ones!

I had a Sony C800 G in 2017 used it for years, it didn't work on a lot of vocals-it's a good mic ( worth about 5K in reality)-but brings out bad qualities in bad voices quickly. I ended up selling it.

I remember I was shopping for interfaces and the lady highly recommended RME - we’re talking more than a decade ago. I had never used RME before and even though I returned it due lack of sufficient I/Os and whatnot, I’ll never forget how I felt when I heard the difference in sound quality. I now have Lynx Aurora N, I upgraded my lynx Hilo to the 2 and I also have a Prism Titan for my synths and vocal chain. Even though I’ll never go back to other interfaces like the Antelope Audio, Burl, Apogee or Motu, RME is definitely something I wouldn’t mind considering.

The SM7B is a mic most people should by at any stage of their recording journey It is versatile and sounds great on vocals and guitars amongst other instruments It's affordable, handles alot spl, is readily available and not as prone to room acoustic inadequacies as many other studio condensers. I don’t know…i find that i need to triangulate to make all the right decisions. My room is fully treated but square so i have bass modes. So i use vsx headphones to get proper sub bass monitoring. When i mix high frequencies on headphones i find that everything sounds good. My Neumann kh150 speakers reveal much more in the midrange as well as mix depth. Maybe some ppl can learn to hear this but i certainly have found that it’s impossible to make eq decisions on a vocal with headphones, as well as proper volume balance and reverb decisions. @@shapeshiftersmediagroup for Alto vocals, I’m always partial to the U87 style microphone but it also depends on your genre and style! Are you singing or rapping? Can I hear some of your work?
