    Hi Jen, my 2 german shepherd are 65 lbs each and the baby lol australian cattle dog weighs 20 lbs. I give the 2 big girls 1 cup for dinner and the baby gets 1/2 cup. In the morning I still feed them the kibble. Is this correct? Thank you!

      Hi! It's hard to say because it's based on weight. Although my Cavs are 18 pounds and they eat probable the same as your Aussie. It may not be enough though. Can you dump the half cup on a food scale? And the full cup too.

    • @JentasticJourney
      @JentasticJourney 24 дні тому

      Feed 2-3% of your dog’s body weight per day. As an example, if you have a 20-pound (9 kg) dog, you will feed it 6.4 ounces (181.4 g) to 9.6 ounces (272.2 g) daily.

    I'm so happy i found you! I've been feeding my 3 dogs cooked food only for dinner. For breakfast I still give them kibble with sardines because I'm afraid that they are not getting enough vitamis and supplements. I also follow Dr. Judy Morgan.

      Awesome! Dr Judy suggested adding water to their kibble to offer more moisture. So maybe try that too. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Lovely idea! I’m going to have to copy you and try this idea! The 2” wide mint tape works well for keeping things together, and isn’t quite as sticky so it’s easier to work with in my experience. Do NOT recommend trying to use the transfer tape you use for vinyl cutting. That did not work, haha!

      Hi! Thanks for watching. You can use an instapot on their slow cook setting. Or in a pinch I've cooked it on very low on the stove- but you do have to manually stir it on occasion or the bottom will burn. I hope this helps! Let me know how it goes for you.

When I looked into the dog food I was told to feed my dog I was shocked to find out that it contained absolute GARBAGE!! I now cook for my dog. Im a bit confused I have a puppy thats 2.7 kgs how much should I feed her?

    • @JentasticJourney
      @JentasticJourney Місяць тому

      You'd feed 2-3% of their bodyweight. So in you pups case, if she needs to grow then I'd do at least 3% or .081 kgs (which is 81 grams). I'd measure our 81 grams using a scoop that you would be using ongoing and then use that to determine how much 81 grams is. Mine get 2 full scoops per meal and that makes it accurate and easy on me. Does that make sense? So if you feed her twice a day, you would break that amount in half per feeding. Cavaliers typically do better when fed more often as they don't do well when their tummies are fully empty. I feed my Cavs at 7am and 7pm. Depending on how young she is, you may want to feed her 3 times a day until she is fully grown, if you have the time or ability to do that - so then you'd divide 81g by 3. Dr. Judy Morgan suggests this feeding amount for dogs - her books don't differentiate for puppies so let me do a bit more research as well as I want to make sure this is accurate. Make sure you are varying the types of meat, and if you feed fish (which is usually much lower in calorie, either pair it with another meat or feed more of it to give her enough calories. My Cavs were all recues and a tad above average for weight and when I fed them this amount (around 2%) they all got to and stayed at a perfect weight. Let me know if this makes sense, or if you have more questions.

    • @JentasticJourney
      @JentasticJourney Місяць тому

      If they are ground to a powder, then you can. Otherwise you can give them raw, uncooked bones - never bones that are whole and cooked.

  • @paulinemcleggan7585

    Thank god for you! I have a 14 week old cavalier King Charles. She came from the breeder on kibble. It did not agree with her. She farted a lot and the smell was awful. She also went between having constipation and very wet pooh. Plus she was not interested in her food. So I started to give her our own cooked food. Minus sugar and salt. She woofed it down. I have found so many recipes on youtube about adding lentils, sweet potato and rice and different cooking methods. To say I’m confused is an understatement. So I am so glad I found you and your cavaliers.❤

    • @JentasticJourney
      @JentasticJourney Місяць тому

      You'd be ok with sweet potatoes here and there - but I use pumpkin instead as it doesn't have as much simple sugar and it keeps their poops nice. I'd avoid rice and lentils or any additional carbs - aside of pumpkin, blueberries (or other berries on occasion) and some cruciferous veggies (only 10-20% of the total meal). Good for you for advocating for her!

    I read bad things about feeding dogs RAW FOOD!! I started making my dog hommade food a couple of weeks ago I made a big batch and put it in freezer bags in one cup servings bc that's what I feed her a day...half cup in AM Nd half cup in evening, I give her supplements also...so far so good...she loves it! I talked with my friend ( a vet tech of 20 yrs) And like what I said so far everything is great!!! I will make a couple of changes , add a couple if things...like bone broth and organ meat!

    Please let us know how much to give our dogs. I have a 17 pound mini schnauzer. I really appreciate your recipe and your time! Thank you so much! 😊

    • @JentasticJourney
      @JentasticJourney 2 місяці тому

      Hi Judy- thanks for watching and for commenting! FEEDING SUGGESTIONS: Feed 2-3% of your dog’s body weight per day. If you have a 17 pound dog, you’d feed it 5.4 ounces daily, if it needs to lose a couple of pounds, or up to 8.2 ounces daily, if it needs to gain a bit. Middle of that is where I landed with mine. I used a muffin batter scoop and measured it on a food scale- for me it was 2 level scoops for my small dogs, fed twice daily (4 scoops total). Then I didn’t have to weigh it again as I just used the same scoop each meal to measure. (Disclaimer: Please check with your veterinarian, for specific feeding amounts for your pet).

    I travel alone with one dog, using hotels. Finding the right hotel is the tricky part as my girl is 60 lbs, and some places only allow small pets. I found a travel bag that has 2 zippered containers for kibble, then a lot more space for everything else from supplements to treats to meds. It zippers closed and has mesh pockets on the outside and straps for easy carry. Everything goes in the night before we leave. It is packed where I can reach it easily. I keep her vaccine records in the car and use a harness that attaches attaches to the seat belt latch while driving. In an emergency, she won't fly through the windshield, escape, or even just jump out at a squirrel while I've got the windows down or the door ajar.

    I was wondering if places you go to require the dogs to be up to date on vaccines or if they accept titers. My one dog had a horrid reaction to the rabies vaccine, so I quit vaccinating her years ago.

    • @JentasticJourney
      @JentasticJourney 2 місяці тому

      I, like you, mostly do titers. I do Rabies vaccines for all. But titers for the rest. I also use a post vaccine tonic that Dr. Judy Morgan suggested by Adored Beasts; Rebalancer. Rebalancer assists in the removal of associated vaccine side effects without removing any vaccine benefits. So if you give that, it might help you dog if they ever need another vaccine. Anyway, as to travel, I do bring the Vaccine proof and Titer proof. I do have one Cavalier that needs Distemper soon, as her titer came back indicating so a couple of weeks ago. But I do bring the proof of both vaccines and titers, although I have never been asked to show them. But many have it in their campsite requirements that you have to have the proof with you. But I would assume titers would suffice, if we were ever asked. Good question!

      @JentasticJourney Thanks Jen. My dogs are 16 and almost 16. I believe a vaccine at this age would cause more harm than good, so I no longer do titers. Since one dog had a bad reaction to a rabies vaccine, it was advised to never do vaccines again of any kind. Great to do titers though. I did them for years. It's just nowadays I will not vaccinate based upon the results so I just don't do them.

    We never travel anywhere. My one dog gets crazy car sick. I have tried everything. She is 16 now. We did travel to our country place for many years back and forth. I hated seeing her get so sick. We finally moved to our country place so she has gotten a break from travel. We are not big travelers, so it has not been a big hardship for us.

    • @JentasticJourney

      My chocolate lab used to get sick just from her anxiety - she would shake the whole time. She doesn't shake anymore. But we rarely were bringing the 2 labs with us because our youngest daughter, who just moved out (empty nesters again), preferred to have the labs with us when she was alone at the house. Plus most campsites, ever since COVID (when everyone adopted dogs) now have a max number of dogs per campsite (usually 2 or 3). Since our daughter preferred them home with her, plus they are very protective of the little dogs which can make them harder to bring with us, we rarely have the labs with us. But now that our daughter moved out, and whenever we camp at State or National Campgrounds (which don't have dog restrictions), we will bring the labs with us.

      Hi, who said that they are poisonous? I’ve been to multiple seminars where they sell all sorts of mushroom products for pets. And Dr. Judy Morgan hypes them up a lot as very healing. I’ve been feeding them to my dogs for years with no issues. It’s crazy what some people try and tell us. Thank you for watching- I hope this helps.

    My dogs are 16 and almost 16. I am too fearful of dental cleanings at this age. I do brush their teeth at least once a day but typically with my fingers only because their mouths are too small even for a finger brush.

    • @JentasticJourney
      @JentasticJourney 3 місяці тому

      I applaud you for doing what you can for them. I understand your fear. Mine are ages 6,7, and 8. They all have mitral valve disease (common with the breed). So it concerns me to do the dentals. But they tell me rotting teeth aren't good for them either. So we weigh it out, right? Good luck with your pups. Thanks for watching.

    One thing that I found helpful is LUCAA dental spray. It contains beneficial oral probiotics. I actually use it to brush their teeth and then put some more on afterwards. Another good product is Natural Tooth Powder from Pet Health and Nutrition Center. They also sell a product with beneficial oral probiotics that is sprinkled on their food.

      @@JentasticJourney One thing that scares me is the supplements for teeth that contain kelp or seaweed due to the unknown amount of iodine they are consuming.

    • @JentasticJourney
      @JentasticJourney 2 місяці тому

      I was told Kelp is good for dogs. I never thought about that, as I supplement with kelp.

    • @mamabear9389
      @mamabear9389 2 місяці тому

      @JentasticJourney I have read conflicting information on kelp. Most commercial diets contain some kelp but homemade diets may need it. It is supposedly very beneficial at the right dossge.My understanding is that kelp differs wildly in iodine content so it is sometimes difficult to get the dosage right. I think like everything, moderation is key. So as long as we don’t overdo it should be fine and actually be beneficial. As far as the dental products with kelp, the ones I have looked at are not recommended for dogs with thyroid issues because of the iodine content. Supposedly excessive iodine can trigger hypothyroidism.
