My Traxxas Rustler Modifications
Переглядів 12616 годин тому
An overview of the mods I've done to my Rustler. I try not to spend to much on this RC so I've kept my mods to minimum focusing on only those mods which increase the cars handling. These are very fun and durable cars but there's no need to get crazy and spend too much on meaningless upgrades. #traxxasrustler #traxxas #rccars #rccaraction #rccarmodification #rcbasher

Aaron and I try our hand at oval carpet racing. Our intention was to just have fun and not get too serious. I ran my Traxxas Rustler and after a few adjustments it actually performed better than I thought it would. Not sure oval racing is my thing, but we had fun!

Tekno SL Rear Diff Pinion Check - Did it Fail?
We've got 2 sets of tekno rear axle conversions at the shop. It lets ya run the same rear axles as the tekno 410SL sct uses. Ya aint gonna hurt them in a Traxxas. 😎 We also have a good selection of 2wd Traxxas aftermarket arms and parts too.
@@Animal_6976 Really? I'll have to check those out.
@arkyrc yeah after that swap ya won't ever have to replace another rear axle in it again. They fit the slash and stampede also.
Happy thanksgiving buddy
@@IowaBudgetRCBashers Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving and nice score with the grom and glad you are having fun with the on-road car. Nice deer as well, venison on the menu for today as well!
@@AddamsPlayground Thanks Adam. No venison on the menu today, but we eat alot of it. 😁
I just got one of these today vintage one needs a battery and battery cover and a remote
You'll enjoy it! Plastics on a true vintage one may be a little brittle. Cheap e-bay for parts...should be plenty on there.
One of the best Metallica songs ever written!!!!!
Great Description And Great Video because i damn sure did😂😂 now mines is stripped down till i fix the transmission on ol rusty.
You broke the transmission? Wow! No problem ..they are easy and cheap to repair. Have fun with it!
Where did you install the bearings
I replaced all the white bushings with bearings. The gearbox and the front wheels. Makes a big difference.
@arkyrc have you got a vid on this me and my brother are trying to get into this hobby !! Ps thanks for replying
@@berwynrogers1450 No video on installing the bearings. When you build the kit it will be pretty obvious where the bearings go. Fast Eddy Bearing sells them all together. The Grasshopper was my first hobby grade RC car back in the 80's. They are perfect for learning on. Welcome to the hobby!
Looks like a nice chassis and I have heard good things from their RS line of cars. Same basic geometry as the high end ones but with less expensive parts so it should drive really well. Have fun with it at the track!
@@AddamsPlayground Thanks Adam. I drove it earlier this week at the track. I did break a front hub, but other than that I was impressed with it. I just need to learn how to drive it!! Way different than racing on dirt.
New spur?
Still on the original stock one! It's showing some wear but has a lot of life left in it.
Did the stock pinion fit?
@@TheMxrider25 yep...just installed a 19T for more speed.
That’s pretty awesome stadium truck running oval wish I could take my Team associated T3 there hopefully they make body mount kits for Dwarf car body’s so we can run the big wings on them would look sick on a 2wd stadium truck. 👍🔥
@@GearWorksRc I was surprised how well it ran after making a few adjustments. I still think there is room for improvement with it but unfortunately the rear mounted motor limits it. It took a beating out there for sure. Both king pins were badly bent...I didn't realize this until I got home. Looking forward to running it again. I'm also going to try out a Yokomo Touring Car on the track...should be fun!!
I’ve been racing short course trucks here for a couple months. I love the hobby so far! Keep the videos coming!
@@logansearing Short course is so much fun and much cheaper than almost any other class. Thanks for watching!
For sure!
Not a bad deal for $15. It is nice to have a pile of hardware on hand as something always seems to get damaged or lost to the hardware gremlins at some point!
@@AddamsPlayground I have used several screws since making the video. No issues so far. Quality seems very good.
They look nice! Glad to hear they fit your protek drivers well.
You really need to quit screwing around though. Lets go racing!

What mods that thing got
@@beta5033 RPM gearbox which allows for rear toe in. This really helps the car hook up. A hobbywing sensorless esc/motor combo (4000kv), and adjustable camber links....that's it. Gearbox internals are all stock. Oh, I recently swapped out the front bulkhead to an aluminum one I had laying around just for a little added weight in the front. This is probably not needed though but it does look cool. Thinking about trying out aluminum front hubs. Im always bending the kingpins...thinking the aluminum ones may help prevent that. I'm not a huge fan of aluminum parts though..these cars need to flex some to prevent breakage. This is probably all I'll do with upgrades. It's a Rustler and it doesn't make sense to overspend on it. It is such a fun RC though...one of my favorites!!
I LOVED my modified Grasshopper. My first RC.
They are so underrated!
Need to replace the shocks. It’s too bouncy.
Yeah..that's an issue with these cars. It's still fun! :)
I don't care what anyone says Amazon is a great base for anyone getting into the RC hobby grade RC cars I actually bought three mjx hyper goes off of Amazon and they have been the most best durable RC cars I don't know about the other brands but hypergo is definitely a good brand on Amazon
This was fun❤
Is this an advertisement?
Nice
Nice car❤😮😁
They are fun little trucks and are pretty tough. I have the 200E and it is a fast little thing! I do like the look of this one.
@@AddamsPlayground Very surprised by it for sure.
This place is awesome! Just raced there last weekend for my first time ever racing rc! Definitely hooked on it! Nice friendly people too!
@@logansearing It's awesome to have an indoor track in our area. I'm really looking forward to racing on this track. The track atmosphere is very laid back. Should be a lot of fun.
@@arkyrc i definitely agree for sure!
Thanks for the video, first timer here, I’ve heard a lot of good things about this plane and I’m excited/scared for my first flight lol. I’ve heard there is a self landing and GPS modules for another version of this model too? But I think I’ll try it without all that.
@@vincentcimino1963 These are very easy to fly and very durable. Once you get them in the air they are hard to crash in training mode. Landing isn't difficult. Ive had a few rough landings...so far i've only broken the propeller. You'll enjoy it for sure.
One of the few times I see these jumping well and landing straight
It handled and jumped like a dream! Thanks!
Love the Raider! Good stuff!
Thanks! It turned out nice.
Nice!
Thank for posting, 2 days ago I bought the Hobbyzone Aersoscout 1.1 meter , but nearly bought this. I made the mistake of getting into RC a month ago with RCA ERA Helicopter. Still haven’t opened the box cause I’m still training on a simulator. Fortunately there is a public RC Aerodrome near me. ( the rca era helicopter has easy takeoff and land w/ ground minicam but I can’t even fly one in simulator but can with same as video)
This is a very fun plane to fly. I've lightly crashed it a few times (landing) and had no damage other than a broken prop. My next plane will probably be the Aeroscout 1.1 . It looks faster than the Apprentice but looks very easy to fly. It's a little larger as well. Good luck with your first flight!
where about was this track located in leitchfield in 88?
This was behind Al's jewelry shop just North of the square on the east side. The hobby shop was called "Hobby Hut". Closed down in 1990? It was located here: 37.482042, -86.292919 if I recall. maps.app.goo.gl/DAfNY8Kmoj2kBiNt7
I have done it before but I have bent or lost far more drive shafts over the years! It was the homemade vise method for me. I didn't even know they had a tool for it!
@@AddamsPlayground The tool makes it very easy, but yeah...if the axles are very bent just get new ones. Although....I've gotten pretty good at bending them back! LOL!
I originally upgraded mine to a HPI Saturn 20T motor and it was great fun on the beach. However i am now switching mine back to a 540 silver can because i plan to run it in fun/tamiya class at our local club and the silver can is the maximum allowed in that class. It certainly won't run any races but it will be fun.
@@hubdeep9452 A Tamiya class sounds like a blast. I used to race a Grasshopper back in the day on an oval dirt track. I put a 57 chevy body on it. It did ok for what it is was...it was so much fun as a kid to drive it. It's definitely one of my favorite RC's!
@@arkyrc ah, I put a typo in my comment. I meant I won't win any races. I bet it looked amazing with a Chevy body on it.
@@hubdeep9452It did! Other cars just bounced off of it! LOL! It was a lot of fun.
For a first race you looked really good out there. Some unfortunate incidents but overall much better than I would have done. I would have been a big bundle of nerves and would have been hitting everything out there! LOL!
Just remember...the video was edited!! 😂 I was happy with how I did. Learned alot actually. My son and I had fun that's what is important. Thanks Adam.😊
Happy to hear you had a good time with the buggy! I really love 8th scale, but those big tracks intimidate me, especially when the driver stand is so high up. Good thing you had some experience racing already!
@@madsrcbuggy it's a very technical course....lots of elevation change. It's a very fun layout but it takes some getting used to. It's hard to keep up with the local racers. The track was extremely wet almost muddy in spots which made getting the feel of the car difficult. It was a long day, but we enjoyed the racing. The mugen held together just fine and ran very strong. It was a muddy mess though! 🤣
Wow, great work restoring that awesome buggy to its former glory! Yeah, it definitely deserves some track time, and I am confident you will have a great time with it too! I got me an old Kyosho 8th scale buggy myself, I love it, but I found my driving skills aren't really good for a track, but for general casual driving, I love that buggy! There is a certain magic about 8th scale, I think you will agree!
I am very comfortable in Short Course and racing E-Buggy will be completely different. I'm actually racing the car today for the first time. I'll be very happy to finish in the B Main. I'm a little nervous to be honest, but I'll have fun nom matter the outcome. Thanks for the comment!
@@arkyrc I think you will love it. 8th scale buggies drive fantastic!
That Petty livery ❤
Nice to see someone still missing with brushed motors. (Expect the crawler people )
That's all I run in my vintage stuff!
Super awsome! Miss looking at them rcca magazines for hrs. I'd sneak them to school have my school book open rcca ontop of it proped.up. teachers thought I was doing what I was supposed to but I was in fantasy land lol. I miss the old cars. Everything's 4wd now which is very cool to race but 2wd was really fun. It's just outdated everyone wants that 4wd brutal brushless power but some of the most fun rc cars I've owned and or operate were brushed.
There's something about the old stuff that the new stuff is missing. Mostly nostalgia! I loved these magazine and used to read them so much I wore them out! If they still published it I'd get a subscription.
Try a 0.1 or 0.2mm shim, that 0.5mm sounds like it might be too thick for the pinion
Got a 👍🏼 just for the song.
You need to upgrade that pinion. My rustler runs 35mph on 25t pinion bl-2s. I installed a 16t pinion. It ran at like 15-20mph. It’s very fast, you just don’t have the right setup.
After this video I bumped up the pinion (21T). It runs much faster and it still runs nice and cool.
Hell of a jam and album
Beautiful I had one when I was young I built it by myself when I was 10 and I had a Futaba pistol grip controller and my friend gave me an electronic speed control. My problem was I kept breaking teeth on the gears when I slammed it in reverse. The next truck I got was a tamiya hi lux built that too!
They were a little issue prone, but were great looking RC's.
Heck yeah!!! Looks like fun!
Is it faster than a Frog? How fast will it go? Bet my Radio Shack car is faster! It takes 8 AA's!
I'll take that bet!!
Looks like that thing has some crazy altitude 🤣
Yeah! It almost took me out!
It is a fun on but it is very much like a hopper and skitters around when driving. I put the oil dampers on mine and it still skitters and hops a bit but it does help settle it down. I used the 50519 fronts and 50520 rear shock on it and if you shop around you can usually find them for not too much. It will be a fun one and one you don't have to take seriously when you are driving it. You just kind of sit back and enjoy trying to keep it out of trouble much like a GH!
@@AddamsPlayground For some reason I find the "hoppers" to be a lot of fun to play around with. You know you can't get too serious with them and that's the fun. The thought of upgrading the shocks did cross my mind. Not sure how much it will help. I'm sure it will still hop around! 😁
@@arkyrc it will still hop a bit but they do make a difference. It does not have so many of the "dart off in a different direction" type moves with the oil dampers on it!
@@AddamsPlayground Thanks! I'll have to try and find a set.
I have one, aweful handling, tooth pick for steering servo rods, no suspension articulation at all. BUT it has its own charm and never fails to put a smile on my face every time I take it out for a run, which is think is often the most overlooked bit of RC-ing.
@@hendrahendra For me...the charm of these cars is what makes them fun. You're right...if you're not smiling..you are doing RC wrong!
😂❤
You’re hilarious
