I made this journey by motorcycle in 1994 and then you could travel London to Kathmandu on a double decker London bus with a company called Top Deck Tours, I met them in Lahore.

I made this journey in 1994 on a BMW motorcycle, there were quite a few people doing it that year and most of us met up in Islamabad tourist camp while we applied for Indian visas, a lot of us met up again in New Delhi tourist camp before heading off around India, I am still in contact with some of those people.

I heard her speak at the ABR Festival 2024 and she was just amazing. I got a signed copy of her book and it’s now one of my treasured possessions. I am starting my round the world trip in 2026 completely inspired by her story although I’ll be doing it in 4 parts. She’s an inspiration.

I’ve read both the “first”and “last” books as well as the story of trans Africa expedition the previous year; called “Boat Race on Wheels”. All are worth reading.👌 I own a 1966 Land Rover and love it’s simple ruggedness. These are remarkable vehicles! I would have liked to have seen Oxford when it was here in the U.S. ,but missed it .☹️ Cheers👌
