Yeah, he should have a grappling advantage with his jiujitsu but needs a takedown to get it there and being 6’7” makes it a long way down to get in on the hips so my guess is he’s looking for clinch style trips if he wants a takedown and he’s getting hit in order to get that so that could go horribly for him. Very rare to see an exceptionally tall fighter for a division shooting traditional takedowns.

I’d bet Vanderaa over Teixeira. I really done think he’s very good, just athletic. I don’t see him KOing Tafa so I think it’s a thing where both guys hit hard but Tafa is a tank too.

@138MMA I can see tafa winning I just don't think he's very good outside the ko power. And it's not even like derrick lewis explosive power. It's like tuivasa catch someone coming in if your lucky power. Just never been impressed by tafa knocking out the absolute worst hws the ufc has ever signed. Like who would you say is tafas best win? Austen lane? It has to be lane right?

Long flights are brutal on fighters especially when flying to Australia which is something like a 24 hour flight from the US. As for when they arrive, it totally depends. It’s up to each fighter as to when they arrive. Home field advantage in Australia is better home advantage than just about anywhere in the world.

💯 his physicality will be an advantage, at least early on. He’s a powerhouse and should be able to use that for as long as his gas allows.

You’re right about that. Either guy is likely to get KOd and both guys have the tools to KO the other. That’s why I ended up with the more local guy as a dog for the pick.

Blood was from a headbutt, based off damage, DDP was hit more, & DDP didn’t do much with the takedowns, he couldn’t keep him down, couldn’t hit him with ground and pound, & Strickland landed like 40 more shots to the head, although looking at the scorecard it’s much closer than people originally thought

Takedowns are supposed to only be a “change of position” according to the scoring criteria. DDP was unable to cause damage on the mat. And yes the cut appears to be from a clash of heads so that also should have been disregarded.

@138MMA it's about optics ddp was just doing more he was more active in the wrestling and striking and yes the clash of heads looks bad all I know is if a guy calls the police saying I just got beat up I arrive look at strickland and ddp I am arresting ddp for assault because struckland looked bad

Optics do play a big role. It’s why I believe Curtis lost the 5th round to Allen. As soon as the bell hit he fell to the ground clutching his hamstring and even though he probably should have taken that round, the last thing they see is him on the ground in pain. As for Jacob’s comment, you’re right I do train and it helps me understand the sport but at the same time, the rules and all that just don’t seem to matter with the judges or refs anyway so maybe it’s better if I didn’t understand a thing 😂

The thing that sways me is that Rose has something to offer on the feet where Suarez doesn’t. So fighting Rose, Weili had to respect the striking and not just sell out for takedown defense.

Was one of those fights where a whole lot of people had it scored differently but the clearest rounds were 1 and 5 which lends me some confidence in Strickland’s ability to separate himself in these rounds if the game plan is right.

Lacking in the name value aspect but as for fun fights, it should be full of them!

🫡 Davis pulling guard sure made that pick look silly in hindsight but nobody expected that to be his game plan. Outside of that, I’m happy with the results.

@138MMA we put money on people expecting them to wrestle or strike so when they do something different it's frustrating like loopy the wrestler deciding to not wrestle but strike with the striker

🙏 I’m not sold on Ziam stopping the takedowns whenever Davis find himself in trouble on the feet. As for MVP he’s undoubtedly more skilled… just age, weight class, and location in favor of his opponent.

I agree with all those points. That said, Shara is in a position where if he keeps it close he could steal it even if he shouldn’t. Undefeated younger prospect and all. For Izzy it comes down to if he still has the motivation. If so, he should win easy.

It’s a big state with a very spread out population. Makes it tough to get much going for any sport. Had to give Mighty Mouse to his home state but it’s one of those things where sometimes a fighter reps a second home more than a first with Jared.
